My Hunting Sketchbook (Two Volumes)

London: Eyre and Spottiswoode Ltd. Two volumes - The first is a reprint (a month after the first edition dated Nov. 1928), and does not mention that there will be a second vol. Vol. II is a first edition dated 1930. Both in cream dust wrappers, with facsimile hand writing to the front cover and a list of titles from the "Sportsman's library" to the rear panel. Cream speckled cloth with a paper label to the front board of each volume. Vol. I. has 15 colour plates, set onto a page with facsimile pencil sketch and text to each page. Vol. II has 12 colour plates and 9 full page black and white pencil sketches.
The wrappers to each volume are a little chipped and worn with some loss to the bottom edge of each volume. A touch of nicking elsewhere. There is slight marking to the wrappers only. The cloth covers are clean and tidy. There is light foxing to the end papers and some foxing spotting to the other pages of each volume. The plates are clean and tidy. There is a gift inscription to the front end paper of each volume. Overall a decent pair of books. xiii, [i], 1-28, [ii]. xv, [i], 1-40, [ii]. pp.
Lionel Edwards (11 September 1878 – 13 April 1966) was a British artist who specialised in painting horses and other aspects of British country life. He is best known for his hunting scenes but also painted pictures of horse racing, shooting and fishing. He provided illustrations for Country Life, The Sphere, The Graphic and numerous books.
