Written at Charlemagne's command, this is an account, in four books, of the Second Council of Nicaea (787). This council largely dealt with the heresy of Iconoclasm, and rather, permitted the adoration of Jesus, Mary & Saints through the assistance of images - not through the adoration of the images themselves.
