Contemporary gift inscription to the verso of the front end paper. As a missionary and chaplain to the East India Company Martyn served first mainly at Dinapore (there are accounts of his journey up the Hoogly and Ganges from Calcutta), but then left for Shiraz in Persia. The book has accounts of his dealings with the Mullahs and Sufis. 210 by 140mm (8¼ by 5½ inches). vii, 538 pages.

Condition: The bounding is sound and attractive with a little rubbing only. Internally clean and tidy, with intermittent light foxing. Evidence of owner's name removed from title page. Otherwise a very nice copy.
