Stuttgart: Wolf Hirth, 1938. First edition thus. This classic aviation book was translated from the original German "Die Hohe Schule des Segelfluges" by Naomi Heron-Maxwell. Softback, with photographic dust jacket - bound on. 214 pp. Complete, with frontis portrait and many b/w illustrations and photographs. Last 24 pages are fascinating examples of relevant contemporary advertising. 190 x 130 mm (7½ x 5 inches). Wolf Hirth was a German gliding pioneer and sailplane designer. He was a co-founder of Schempp-Hirth, still a renowned glider manufacturer. Tragically, on 25th July 1959 his passion was to claim his life, when he was killed in an accident with a Lo 150 glider.
Condition: Covers are worn and somewhat creased at extremities. Internally the book is good and clean. Closed page edge has some darkening.
