London: Tilt & Bogue, 1842. Signed by Cruikshank with inscription to R.H. Barham, the author of Ingoldsby Legends (under the Pseudonym Thomas Ingoldsby). Original buckram with gilt titles and design to front board. yellow end papers. armorial bookplate of Lord Vernon (MP and supporter of the 1832 reform bill) to the front paste down. Cruikshank's signature is to blank page between end paper and half title (possibly an insertion). The verso of this leaf has an advert for Cruikshank's Table book pasted to it. The rest of the book is in good, clean condition, with no significant flaws. Included are a few loose clippings of Cruikshank's, including a title leaf from issue 1 of the serial of the Omnibus. 250 by 160mm (9¾ by 6¼ inches). Vi, 300 pp. 16 page publisher's catalogue tipped into rear. Enclosed is a C1970 booksellers card-index entry and a sterling price. Barham, (Ingoldsby) died 1845. This work was published (and presumably inscribed) just before publication of the Ingoldsby Legends. The two author's greatly admired each others work.
