Ex-libris of Paul Citroen
1923. Bookplate designed by the famous Dadaist artist Paul Citroen for his own library, and signed on the back by him. Neatly displayed in a plain white mount, perfect for framing. Bookplate: 65 x 50 mm (2½ x 2 inches). In mount: 300 x 240 mm (11¾ x 9½ inches). Paul Citroen was a German-born Dutch artist, art educator and co-founder of the New Art Academy in Amsterdam. Citroen's most famous work is probably 'Metropolis' (1923), thought to have inspired the German director Fritz Lang to make the classic film of the same name.
