Vue d'optique of the Royal Palace of Hampton Court.
London: 1760. Copper engraving with watercolour. Originally designed to be viewed through a zograscope. Title in English and French. 25 x 39 cm (image); 33 x 48 cm (sheet). A zograscope is an optical device for magnifying flat images, as the shape of the lens enhanced the sense of the depth shown in the picture. The precursor to 3D images! These were very fashionable in the late 18th century.
