A wonderful children's book, with a colour fold-out map (The Gipsy Camp), and many brilliant b/w illustrations by Gordon Browne (some full-page). 379 pages. 210 x 160 mm (8¼ x 6¼ inches). Samuel Rutherford Crockett, who published under the name "S. R. Crockett", was a Scottish novelist. A contemporary J. M. Barrie, he wrote prolifically in the late 19th century, mainly for the emerging popular 'mass market' readership.
Condition: The boards are rubbed and bumped. Pages are rough cut at two edges, and some at the back (unpaginated advertisements) remain uncut. Generally the book is bright and clean, with very little foxing. The colour fold-out map is clean and without damage.
