The Second Foreign Legion (also 2nd Foreign Legion, 2nd Foreign Brigade or Swiss Legion) was a Swiss unit within the French Army, created in France by Emperor Napoleon III in early 1855, to participate in the Crimean War. However, the war was over faster than expected. The 2nd Legion was therefore transformed into the 1st Foreign Regiment in 1856 and stationed in Algeria. The unit, wearing a green uniform, retained its Swiss character until 1859. Première édition.
