The Affair at Aliquid
London: Collins Crime Club, 1939. 5th Impression. Clean and tidy hardback, in green illustrated dust wrapper with an advert for Euthymol toothpaste to the rear panel. A little edgewear to the wrapper only. Clean and tidy blue hardback with gilt titles. The front end paper has been removed so the book starts on the title page. The top cm of the title page has been neatly removed (presumably to remove an inscription). Page block is clean but with a touch of darkening. 285 pages. More a comic romp with crimes committed than a detective novel. As Dorothy L Sayers haughtily noted, "this book really has no place on the Collins Crime Club list". Almost impossible to find a copy - even in reprint. As fiction blogger Nick Fuller recently stated "I bought the only copy of this for sale in the world last month. It's a pity a book so unobtainable is so entertaining" - grab your chance here!
