London: Wm. S. Orr & Co, 1839. A very nice copy of this first edition in original buckram with leather label to the spine. The binding has been restored, and the spine re-laid at some point. A touch for rubbing to the edges. Owner's bookplate to the inside board. Pages have the odd foxing spot, but overall are very clean. Frontis of a pineapple and other fruit. Coloured secondary title page. and sixteen further hand-coloured plates. Together a total of 18 plates. There are also a large number of very attractive engraved vignettes throughout the work. viii, 142pp. 180 by 120 mm (7 by 4¾ inches).
At the time of writing this book, McIntosh was Head Gardener to the Duke of Buccleuch, at Dalkeith where he updated and modernised the gardens.
