Welcome to our Young Friends from the Continent A book of Beauty, Joy and Fun
London: The Lamdon Press, 1938. A scarce work (none on sale and only 1 library holding at the Hebrew Union of Cincinnati at the time of cataloguing). A photo book intended to welcome young German children who were coming to England at this time. From the date and the author's background, this was clearly aimed at the children on the Kindertransport who came to England (without their parents) immediately before World War Two. Photographs of important London landmarks, and a trip to the zoo, with captions in English and German. There is also a short fairy story by Clara Sulzer-Breuer (also in English and German). Original coloured paper covered boards showing children welcoming a guest. Internally clean and tidy throughout, with a touch of foxing to the end papers.
Silbermann (1889-1939) was Hungarian, he was ordained a Rabbi in Berlin. He published a number of works, his most popular being a pop up Haggadah, aimed at German children in the 1930's.
