Paris: Devambez Editeur, C1916. First Edition. Undated. A rare hand coloured caricature poster from the first world war. Entitled "L'Ogre," it depicts Kaiser Wilhelm caught in a bear trap. His hands showing that he is only half human. Around the trap are children in the clothing of different nations taunting him. The costumes show Russian, Turkish, Scottish, Japanese and French children. All enemies of the Germans in the first world war. To the bottom left, the poster is signed in the plate "RAY." In excellent condition, there is just a touch of darkening / marking, and with a hard crease to the bottom right corner. We can find no copies for sale, and few auction records. There is a copy in the Australian War Memorial Collection. It is quite a large piece, image is 27cm x 42cm. The sheet is 38cm x 58cm.

Les costumes représentent des enfants russes, turcs, écossais, japonais et français. Tous ennemis des Allemands pendant la Première Guerre mondiale. En bas à gauche, l'affiche est signée dans la plaque "RAY". En excellent état, il y a juste un peu de noircissement / marquage, et avec un pli dur au coin inférieur droit. Nous n'avons trouvé aucun exemplaire en vente, et peu d'archives de ventes aux enchères. Un exemplaire se trouve dans la collection du Mémorial australien de la guerre. Il s'agit d'une pièce assez grande, l'image mesurant 27 cm x 42 cm. La feuille mesure 38 cm x 58 cm.
