Paul Éluard and Pablo Picasso met in the 1920s, at the heart of the surrealist movement, but their artistic collaboration took on a more committed dimension from the 1930s onwards. Their friendship was consolidated in particular during the Spanish Civil War and after the tragedy of Guernica, events which cemented their fight against fascism, their quest for freedom and peace and an opposition to the horrors of war. "Le Visage de la Paix" is the ultimate fruit of this collaboration. Published a year before Éluard's death, it brings together 29 of the poet's poems and 29 of Picasso's drawings on the theme of peace.
