Attractive purple soft covers with a vignette wood engraving by Jean-Gabriel Daragnès for the series "Les Introuvables" to the front cover. The thin purple paper integrated dust wrapper has had splitting to the spine and a closed tear to the front cover. These have now been repaired with archival tape (see photos). Paul Morand (1888–1976) was a French diplomat, novelist, and stylistically innovative modernist writer, admired for his vivid, fast paced prose but later discredited by his political compromises under Vichy. He was partially re-habilitated in the 1950's and admitted to the Académie française in 1968 despite strong opposition from de Gaulle.
