Original vintage poster from the Confédération des oeuvres laïques de vacances d'enfants et d'adolescents announcing the sale of stamps for the benefit of their summer holiday camps. These camps were very popular in the 1950s. Edge wear and very small closed tears to creases where poster has been folded. Slight darkening to verso. 845 x 640 mm (33¼ x 25¼ inches).

'...To which is prefixed, a geographical memoir of Abyssinia and South-Eastern Africa by James McQueen esq. grounded on the missionaries' journals, and the expedition of the Pacha of Egypt up the Nile.' Original brown blind stamped buckram with gilt titles to spine. Yellow end papers. Small bookseller's embossed stamp to the half title. (George Gardham of Beverley). Two folding hand coloured maps of the relevant parts of Africa.. The buckram is a little faded and rubbed to the edge. There is a little chipping to the head and tail of the spine with slight loss. A split to the board has been repaired. A closed tear to the half title page has been neatly repaired. The maps are in very nice clean condition. xxvii, 529. pp

Emile-Paul Frères, 1931. First edition. Represented for the first time on stage at the Théâtre Pigalle in Paris in November 1931. Illustrated with six engravings by J. E. Laboureur (cover, title, one inset and three chapter headings). One of 200 on vélin d'Arches. Original paperback bound now within a full leather burgundy binding, retaining its covers. Binding signed by E. Kustner. Spine with four raised bands; author and title in gilt. Top edge gilt. A slipcase has been custom made in marbled paper. With a red ribbon bookmark. The leather on the spine has faded. Some offsetting. Overall very good, in a lovely binding. 174 pages. 245 x 200 mm (9¾ x 7¾ inches).

From the bookplate, we can see that this book belonged to Helge Loewenberg-Domp. She was a German musician and music (piano) seller of Jewish parents who escaped to the Netherlands before the war. She later went into hiding with her family, and survived the war. (Her brother died in the camps). She was one of the first to import Japanese pianos to the Netherlands. In the 1970's she was knighted to the Order of Orange-Naussau. Three years later, she founded the Helge Domp Foundation for Music for young musicians. She died in 2021.

Broché original relié maintenant dans une reliure plein cuir bordeaux, conservant ses couvertures. Reliure signée par E. Kustner. Dos à quatre nerfs; auteur et titre dorés. Tranche supérieure dorée. Il y a un étui recouvert de papier marbré sur mesure. Le cuir du dos s'est estompé. Avec un signet en ruban. Un bel exemplaire dans une agréable reliure. 174 pages. 245 x 200 mm.

De l'ex-libris, on peut voir que ce livre appartenait à Helge Loewenberg-Domp. Elle était une musicienne allemande et vendeuse de musique (piano) de parents juifs qui se sont enfuis aux Pays-Bas avant la guerre. Plus tard, elle s'est cachée avec sa famille et a survécu à la guerre. (Son frère est mort dans les camps). Elle a été l'une des premières à importer des pianos japonais aux Pays-Bas. Dans les années 1970, elle est faite chevalier de l'Ordre d'Orange-Naussau. Trois ans plus tard, elle fonde la Helge Domp Foundation for Music pour les jeunes musiciens. Elle est décédée en 2021.

Amsterdam: E Maaskamp, 1825. Map of the area around the Zuiderzee and in the north of the Netherlands affected by the flooding in February 1825. The flooded areas are colored blue. Part of a series of five maps of the affected areas.
This map is based on Maaskamp's map of Les Provinces du Nord found in his Pocket atlas of the Kingdom of the Netherlands published in 1821. There is an additional title printed and the flooded areas are additionally coloured. Overall in very good condition, with some darkening around the folds. The blue indicating the flooded areas is somewhat faded, but still visible.

The February flood of 1825, also known in Germany as the Great Hallig Flood (Große Halligflut), was a devastating flood that occurred from 3 to 5 February 1825 on the North Sea coast, in which about 800 people were drowned.
In the Netherlands, the February flood was the worst natural disaster of the 19th century. Most of the dead and the worst damage was in Groningen, Friesland and Overijssel. The reaction at national level was quite similar to that during the flood of 1953; yet the event was surprisingly quickly forgotten once the damage had been repaired and had no political or engineering consequences. It needed the disaster of 1953 in order for a delta law to be passed and to improve coastal protection significantly.

Paris: Petit Courrier des Enfans, 1841. Two volumes. First edition. Quarter red leather with gilt titles to red boards. A little bumping and rubbing to the edges of the boards. Each volume contains 12 engraved plates - so 24 in total. The wide pages are each divided in 4 columns, and pagination is by column, rather than page. Each volume contains 12 issues, each containing 12 pages and a plate. These are not dated, but have the title to the top of the first (4) pages. So each volume has 144 pages (despite a pagination of 576.) Some darkening / spotted foxing to the pages, but overall in very respectable condition. 250 x 180 mm (9¾ x 7 inches). Deux tomes. Première édition. Quartier cuir rouge avec titres dorés aux plats rouges. Quelques petits coups et frottements sur les bords des plats. Chaque volume contient 12 planches gravées - soit 24 au total. Les pages larges sont chacune divisées en 4 colonnes, et la pagination se fait par colonne, plutôt que par page. Chaque volume contient 12 numéros, contenant chacun 12 pages et une planche. Celles-ci ne sont pas datées, mais portent le titre en haut des (4) premières pages. Ainsi, chaque volume compte 144 pages (malgré une pagination de 576.) Quelques assombrissements / rousseurs tachetées sur les pages, mais dans l'ensemble dans un état très respectable. 250 par 180 mm.

Amsterdam: 1986 / 2017. Five black and white digital prints - after Ilford negative 1986. Signed in pen and pencil by the photographer (on reverse side). The 4 photo-diptychs and 1 photo show Haring at work, discussing his work, drawing and surrounded by ghetto blaster, cassette tapes, and spray cans. Printed on matte 300 gms paper. In 1986, New York graffiti artist Keith Haring was invited to exhibit by the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. He was also asked to spray a velum with his characteristic 'playing men'. This velum has been shown again recently at the Stedelijk Museum. Photo press followed Haring at work, and these images are part of a photo shoot with Chris Reinewald, then journalist for 'Plug' - a cultural youth magazine. In fine condition. 210 x 298 mm (8¼ x 11¾ inches).

Tours: Maison Alfred Mame et fils, 1921. First edition. A very nice copy of this beautifully illustrated story. No rebound in three quarter leather (or possibly blue faux leather). marbled boards. Simple gilt title to the spine. Cream end papers. The original illustrated covers of the softback are bound into the book. A little rubbing and evidence of tape to the edge of the front cover (inside). Title page with facsimile autograph and vignette. 95 pages. Preface by Robert de Flers. Beautiful black and white and colour illustrations by Job throughout. A touch of darkening to the page edges, but overall a clean and tidy copy. This is a scarce children's story written by the Queen of Romania, Marie de Saxe-Cobourg-Gotha (1875-1938). 340 by 270mm (13½ by 10¾ inches).

No significant flaws to the book or wrapper other than a fractional darkening to the to closed page edge. Owner's ex libris stamp to the front end paper (political author and TV journalist Charles Glass). Inside the book does have some sporadic foxing, but is the only copy signed by the author we can find for sale online at the time of writing. xxxviii, 434 pp. 230 x 150 mm (9 x 6 inches).
