The dust wrapper is sound, but is slightly faded, and has a couple of small nicks to the edges of the wrapper. An old price is written to the front cover and a couple of small marks to the rear cover. The book is an attractive blue cloth with silver printed decoration. Internally clean and tidy throughout, with attractive black and white illustrations by Sendak. 110 pages. 19cm x 12.5cm.

New York: John McLoughlin, C 1850. First edition. Undated but before the McLoughlin Brothers imprint (see below). An acceptable only copy. Crudely sewn binding with the first and last image providing the covers (not unusual for these early McLoughlins, we have seen several examples similarly stitched). The front cover is a little darkened but overall in decent condition. Including the covers, there are 8 pages of hand coloured woodcut images with text beneath. (complete). These pages are in fairly good condition, with just a little darkening, and a touch of shaking. The binding is in danger of separating with the spine edge splitting. The hand colouring is attractively done. 18.5cm x 11.5cm.

. John McLoughlin was a Scottish-born coach maker who became a prominent figure in the New York publishing industry during the 19th century. He began in 1819 after moving to New York and initially worked for the Sterling Iron Company, where he developed an interest in printing. By 1828, he had established his own printing business on Tryon Row in Manhattan, focusing on publishing semi-religious tracts for children under the title McLoughlin's Books for Children. In 1840, McLoughlin partnered with wood engraver Robert H. Elton to form Elton & Co., which specialised in toy books, comic almanacs, and valentines. His son, John McLoughlin Jr., eventually took over in 1850 when both senior partners retired. The firm of McLoughlin Brothers is listed at 24 Beekman St. in the New York directories for 1858 to 1862, McLoughlin Bros. was located at 30 Beekman St., New York, between 1863 and April, 1870. Under John Jr.'s leadership, the company became known as McLoughlin Brothers and pioneered the use of colour printing technologies, including chromolithography, for children's books. This innovation made their publications visually striking and widely popular. The McLoughlin Brothers expanded their offerings to include games, puzzles, paper dolls, and other children's products. By 1870, they had opened the largest colour printing factory in the United States. Their works often featured adaptations of British stories by illustrators such as Randolph Caldecott and Kate Greenaway. The company thrived until it was sold to Milton Bradley in 1920. Despite this transition, the McLoughlin imprint continued to produce children's books into the early 20th century.

Dublin: M & S. Eaton, 1885. First edition. Three volumes bound as one. This is a collection of 382 short leaflets approved by the Roman Catholic church in Dublin. Here they are printed in book form. The three volumes each have their own index, contents, title and imprimatur. Unpaginated, but each is one or two pages long. Full leather binding. The binding is splitting to the front hinge and has rubbing to the spine and edges. Internally in good, clean condition. Frontis illustration of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour. Pencilled gift inscription to the front end papers. A scarce item, there are none currently for sale. WorldCat shows only later printings. (The dating here is from prayers of indulgence in volume three. This was one of the first books to receive the imprimatur of Archbishop William Walsh, as he was not installed until August 1885.).

To the front there is a hand written dedication to his second wife, Diana Miles, whom he married in 1970. Leslie Thomas, OBE was a Welsh author best known for his comic novel The Virgin Soldiers. This novel is set in the South Pacific, with many interesting characters - very 1960's! Good clean copy, obviously been read by the author's wife and family. 284 pages. 200 x 140 mm (7¾ x 5½ inches).

There is a loosely inserted French translation for each photo caption. This book was the result of the purchase of the newspaper archives of the city of Luton, England. A vast source of material, from which Timothy Prus selected a series of images to create a surrealist story line. Prus had been interested in amateur photography / found images long before this became accepted in most of contemporary art. The book is in a near fine condition, and appears almost unread. 112 pages. 185 x 130 mm (7¼ x 5 inches).

Original blue cloth with gilt titles to the front board and spine. The titles to the front board are almost rubbed away. A little bumping otherwise. Bookplate to inside the front board. Gift inscription opposite. The book is in good condition throughout with a little darkening to the pages. Tipped into the rear of the book, are a review of the title by the Manchester Guardian, and the original dust wrapper of the book. This work was an attempt by the Danish economist, to counter the inflation and depression of the previous few years which had come about from an abandoning of the Gold Standard. He suggested that money supply be connected to an index of measurements of market requirements (index linking). 112 pages. 220 x 150 mm.
