Issued as #6 of "Political sketches" - Issued in 5 volumes. (Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington; George William Finch-Hatton, 10th Earl of Winchelsea). Description is: "The Earl of Winchelsea conceived so great a disgust with politics, on account of the passing of the Catholic Emancipation Act, that he announced it to be his intention of retiring altogether from the House of Lords. Moore, the lyrical poet, ever ready with his joke, took occasion, on the day after his Lordship's announcement of his resolution, to tell the story of a man in the gallery at Drury Lane, who, having paid his shilling to see George Barnwell, and not choosing to be disturbed from his tragedy-state of mind by the noise which an Easter Monday audience generally makes before the play begins, called out lustily for silence, and having, with much difficulty, obtained a hearing, very gravely acquainted the audience, that if they did not conduct themselves in a more orderly manner, he should be under the necessity of leaving the house. The public laughed with the poet and at the Earl, well knowing that such resolutions are the offspring of temporary emotions, and are never kept." Mclean. Illustrative Key to the Political Sketches of H.B. From No.1 to No. 600. Conforms to the National Portrait Gallery copy: NPG D40941. The Duke of Wellington is mentioned in this sketch, as he was the Prime Minister at the time of the passing of the Catholic Emancipation Act.

. Première édition de la lithographie, publiée en 1829. L'image mesure 28,5 x 39,5 cm.

This is the second enlarged edition. John Hookham Frere (1769-1846) was an English diplomat and author. His reputation now largely rests on his translations of Aristophanes. His "prospectus and specimen", a mock Arthurian poem, was used extensively by Byron in "Don Juan." Bookplate and signature of Reginald Heber Macaulay from his Eton master Francis St John Thackeray on the occasion of his leaving Eton in 1878. Macaulay (1858-1937) was an amateur English footballer who won the FA cup for the Old Etonians in 1882 and made an appearance for England in 1881. viii, 354., viii, 426., 436. pages. 22cm x 14cm.

. Deuxième édition. Trois volumes. A lovely and unusual copy of this work of Picard's plays. In three quarter leather, and printed on heavy, fine laid paper, the work is embellished by a DOUBLE suite of the engraved portraits of actors. So in addition to the 19 hand coloured engraved plates that we see in some other copies, there are also 19 plates laid onto sheets in black and white, and facing the colour version. So a total of 38 engraved plates. Although the image is identical (bar the colouring) the additional plates do not have the engraved text on them, and so were presumably an additional suite. We cannot find another copy to compare with ours, and cannot find a limitation of this double plate edition. Three quarter deep red leather with raised bands and gilt titles and decoration to the spine. Marbled boards, but overall in very good state. The binding is very slightly weak to the front hinge, but still holding well. The paper seems to be of a higher quality than the regular edition of this work. Quite a few pages are uncut. There is a little foxing, including to the plates, but much less than is generally found. Overall, a lovely copy of a rare work. [xvi], 778 pages. 28.5cm x 20cm. Apart from the addition plates Conforms to WorldCat / OCLC: 457695666. BnF FRBNF31104106.

[xvi], 778 pages. 28.5cm x 20cm. A l'exception des planches supplémentaires Conforme à WorldCat / OCLC : 457695666. BnF FRBNF31104106.

Three bound groups of Architectural Plans A total of 13 water colour architectural plans

Paris: N/A, 1908. A lovely collection of architectural studies in ink and water colour by Ledonné. It is not clear whether these are studies as a draughtsman working for Eugené Dr Chifflot, or as an Architectural student (or perhaps a combination). The three groups are as follows: (1) Résumé des Constructions - Perspective lineaire des Prof. F Julien. 4 Sheets. One is a water colour of a fountain on art card, signed by Ledonné and with the éleve signed by Eu. Chifflot. Next is a perspective of the same, in red and black ink on architectural glassine, showing perspective lines (also signed by both). There is a blank cover sheet (signed by Ledonné and Chifflot). Each sheet is 65 x 48cm, signed by both Ledonné and Chifflot, and in good, clean condition. They are held together by brass rivets to the top edge. 5 sheets. First is a water colour elevation and cut out of a chalet design. Second is a red, black and water colour design and perspective of the chalet staircase. Next a water colour detail of the joints and woodwork of the chalet. Next are water colour details of the woodwork and roof beams. Finally, details of the passages and brickwork. Each sheet is 65 x 48cm, signed by both Ledonné and Chifflot, and in good, clean condition. They are held together by brass rivets to the top edge. (3) 4 sheets of designs for a pavilion of honour. The first is an elevation and details in water colour. (This has some staining and edgewear to it). Second a plan and elevation of the interior with perspective lines. next is a wate rcolour perspective and elevation of the lunette, Finally, the stereotomie of the staircase. (showing the process of the assembly of the complex structure). These three sheets are in good, clean condition. Each sheet is 65 x 48cm, signed by both Ledonné and Chifflot. They are held together by brass rivets to the top edge. We can find little about Ledonné. A Frenchman, he was in American between 1899 and 1903, and later returned to France and worked as a draughtsman or architect under the architect Eugené Dr Chifflot (Brother of Jules Léon Chifflot).
