Slight splitting to surface of spine edge. Monogram bookplate to the inside board. Slight weakness to the binding at the title, and darkening to the page edges, but overall a very respectable copy. Portrait of Lady Bury and 6 engraved aquatints (complete). Sadlier 480: "This pious memorial to her husband (he died in 1832) was surely erected at Lady Charlotte's expense. the drawings are of considerable merit and beautifully reproduced. I include the book, despite its poetical character, for the sake of the drawings, and in order that its existence may be known." Having said that, there is a significant list of Royal Subscribers at the beginning of the book. xiv, 140 pages.

N.P, C1990. An attractive print of a water colour landscape by McKivragen, showing the Tower of London from across the Thames, with a red barge in the middle ground. A very high quality print, unsigned in the plate by by Terry McKirvragen, and with the title beneath. The print is done onto embossed art card, which gives an attractive border. The paper is held under passe partout card with a yellow bevelled edge. The passe partout is very slightly darkened with a couple of very light marks. Held under glass in a contemporary gilt faux antique frame. A very attractive work. Paper area 21cm x 15.5cm. Frame is 40cm x 34cm. Terry McKivragan (1929-2013) was a British artist born in Cheshire in 1929. He studied at Wimbledon Art School, and pursued a career in commercial art before becoming a full time watercolour artist in 1986. He specialised in landscapes and sporting scenes.

NP, 1810. A lovely copy of this caricature by Gillray. This copy seems to have come from a volume of prints. It is not the original print by Hannah Humphrey. There is no printing information to the bottom edge, and has "No XVI" to the top right. the size is also smaller than the original print. The print has been folded into three at some point, and been reinforced to the verso. Fractional darkening, and a tiny chip to one corner, but overall in very good condition. Our copy is the same as that of the Paris Musées collection G.26637, which also doesn't have the publisher information. We can find no information about when our print was produced or for which collection of prints, but was clearly produced at about the same time. Satirical print about alcohol; From the OCLC description: "Print shows a triumphal procession of a rotund black woman symbolizing Quassia, which is supposed to have supplanted hops in brewing. She sits astride a drayman's pole from which is suspended horizontally a cask inscribed 'True Quassia Free from Taxation'. The pole is supported on the shoulders of two brewers, Whitbread (right), and Combe (left). She holds up in one hand a branch of the quassia tree, with a (tricolour) scroll: 'Kill-Devil [rum] for ever', and in the other a frothing tankard inscribed 'Quos-sia'. This is irradiated, the rays being inscribed 'Apoplexy', 'Palsy', 'Consumption', 'Debility', 'Colic', 'Stupor', 'Dropsy', 'Scurvy', 'Dysentery', 'Hæmorrhoids', 'Hydrophobia', 'Idiotism'. A third brewer, the very corpulent George Barclay, follows on the extreme left. He holds up a standard: 'Pro bono Publico - Quassia for Ever, - No Hops! no Malt! Down with all the Private Breweries! - Kill-Devil and Quassia for Ever!' From his apron projects a book: 'Receipts to make a Cauliflour Head'. In front of the procession is a dray-horse, with dangling chains which show that the barrel has been detached from them. On its back sits the bulky Grenville between Fox and Petty who clings to his waist. All are in court dress, and exultingly wave their cocked hats, which, like the hats of the brewers, are decorated with large tricolour favours inscribed 'Quassia for Ever'. On the horse is a pannier with a (tricolour) label: 'Grains from the Quassia Breweries for the New Piggery'; this, like the riders' pockets, is overflowing with guineas. From Petty's hat fall two bundles of papers: 'Tax upon Private Brewer[ies]' and 'Tax upon Maid-Servants'. Whitbread, who looks round at the spectator, has a favour in his hat larger than the others and having the additional inscription. 'No Private Breweries - Impeachment of Malt & Hops! No Scotch Barley'. On the ground lie broken hop-poles, with hop-vines still attached to them. Behind are conical stacks of hop-poles 'To be Sold for Fire-Wood'." 191 x 238mm (7½ by 9¼ inches). London: Thomas Tegg, 1814. First edition. A single sheet with a sequence of eight scenes, arranged in two rows, each with an inscription below it. They represent a day spent by the Tsar while in London. [1] Alexander stands by a combined wash-stand and dressing-table (left) in a simply furnished bedroom. A valet helps him to put on his coat. The rest follow in a similar fashion. Very good, clean condition, with attractive hand colouring. Still bright. Clean but slightly darkened to the verso. By insisting on staying with his sister, he slighted the Prince Regent, who had offered him the use of St James' Palace. The incidents of the day are carefully adapted to contrast with the habits of the Regent. The plate is 24.5cm x 34.5cm the sheet is 25cm x 41cm. Hay on Wye: Aquarium / Kestrel Gallery, 2005. Signed limited edition (50 copies) book with hand painted original cover. Published by Aquarium & Kestrel Gallery, Hay-on-Wye. Signed and numbered to back board by Billy Childish, with Hangman gallows and Aquarium sea horse stamps. Book is number 33 of only 50. There is a second signature on a heavy paper (almost like a bookplate) tipped into the inside of the front board. This is also adorned with one of Childish's hangman block cuts (a different one to that on the rear board. There is also a small red stamp that looks Chinese, but is indecipherable.
16 pages on heavy stock. Poetry in red type. 12 full colour plates. Hand bound hardback in hessian boards. Red handmade paper end papers. Book in very good condition with just a touch of darkening to edge of front board (from handling we suspect). 110 x 90 mm (4¼ x 3½ inches).

Includes portrait frontispiece in the 162 plates, with explanatory paper guards. No dust jacket. Boards are rubbed at edges and slightly soiled. Inside clean and tidy, with some light foxing throughout. Binding is sound with no shaking or loose plates. Held within an archival wrapper. Red cloth boards are clean and tidy, with just a little bumping to the head and tail of the spine. A touch of foxing to the closed page edges. 15 black and white photographs, 5 maps. Complete. 119 pages. 190 by 125mm (7½ by 5 inches).

London: Sidgwick & Jackson Ltd, 1913. First edition. A poetry anthology edited by Tynan and illustrated by C. M. Watts. Tynan was ideally placed to compile such an anthology, she had been a close associate of W. B. Yeats from the time they first met in June 1885 until around the time of her marriage in 1893, and was a central figure in Dublin literary circles. This would appear to be a deluxe edition of the anthology. Sidgwick & Jackson, like many Edwardian publishers, sometimes produced a small run in superior binding for the gift trade or for presentation copies, using a deeper cloth and gilt blocking where the standard trade edition used black. In addition to poems by William Butler Yeats, A.E., James Stephens etc. this work saw the first appearance of a James Joyce work in an anthology with three poems. ("Strings in the Earth and Air," "At that hour," and "I hear an Army.") The cloth has some bumping to the edges, and bleaching for the colour to the edge and to the rear panel. Slight rubbing to the gilt. Inside, the work is mainly clean and tidy, with a little darkening and slight foxing to the pages. The double title page is printed on high quality art paper and is a beautiful colour Celtic knot work panel. The panel is repeated uncoloured as a surround to each page. xxvi, 160 pages. 24cm x 17cm.

The print is reasonably clean, but has a damp stain across the cave wall, and light foxing. A little nicking and edgewear to the edges of the card. Issued as #6 of "Political sketches" - Issued in 5 volumes. (Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington; George William Finch-Hatton, 10th Earl of Winchelsea). Description is: "The Earl of Winchelsea conceived so great a disgust with politics, on account of the passing of the Catholic Emancipation Act, that he announced it to be his intention of retiring altogether from the House of Lords. Moore, the lyrical poet, ever ready with his joke, took occasion, on the day after his Lordship's announcement of his resolution, to tell the story of a man in the gallery at Drury Lane, who, having paid his shilling to see George Barnwell, and not choosing to be disturbed from his tragedy-state of mind by the noise which an Easter Monday audience generally makes before the play begins, called out lustily for silence, and having, with much difficulty, obtained a hearing, very gravely acquainted the audience, that if they did not conduct themselves in a more orderly manner, he should be under the necessity of leaving the house. Complete with four engravings (two hand coloured). Full leather. The spine has been re-laid to the binding, with some loss to the top and bottom edge, and a little loss to the label. Still and attractive binding, with gilt decorated panels. Spine is a little darkened. The boards have triple fillets of gilt to the edges. End papers have been reinforced by the binder. Bookplate of the Rev. B.E. Lampet to the inside board. * To the first blank page, is a gift inscription. "W. Key esq. With White's comps. 1810" This is probably the inscription of John White, the publisher and Gilbert White's nephew and executor. An attractive frontis engraving "Where the Hermit hangs his straw clad cell." Folding engraving of Mytilus. The second volume opens with a folding, hand coloured frontis of a Charadrius Himanlopus (a wading bird!). Slight darkening to this.Title page for volume two. The fourth engraving is an attractive hand coloured illustration of "A hybrid bird." There is moderate darkening of the pages opposite the illustrations, otherwise the book is in excellent, fractionally darkened condition. viii, 392., [ii], 300. pages. 22cm x 14cm. *Reverend Barrett Edward Lampet (1811-1867), was a 19th-century Anglican clergyman, who was primarily the vicar of Great Bardfield in Essex.

London: Basil Montagu Pickering, 1874. Second edition. Three volumes. Uniform calf boards with gilt decoration and red and burgundy labels to the spine. The boards are slightly loose, and the binding a little cracked to the hinges, but still holding well. A little rubbing to the spine and edges, with some loss, but otherwise in clean condition. Marbled page edges. Internally clean and tidy with a little foxing only. Frere's complete works were published in 1871, with a memoir by his nephews W.E. and Sir Henry Bartie frere. This is the second enlarged edition. John Hookham Frere (1769-1846) was an English diplomat and author. His reputation now largely rests on his translations of Aristophanes. His "prospectus and specimen", a mock Arthurian poem, was used extensively by Byron in "Don Juan." Bookplate and signature of Reginald Heber Macaulay from his Eton master Francis St John Thackeray on the occasion of his leaving Eton in 1878. Macaulay (1858-1937) was an amateur English footballer who won the FA cup for the Old Etonians in 1882 and made an appearance for England in 1881. viii, 354., viii, 426., 436. pages. 22cm x 14cm.

London: R. Ackermann, 1827. Four volumes. Hardback. Original blue paper covered boards (interim bindings), with yellow paper labels to spines. Boards a little stained and rubbed. Complete with all 81 colour engraved costume plates. Although the title pages state 84 plates, in fact the Errata and plate index show that the Chelsea Pensioner and the Greenwich Pensioner are on a single plate, elsewhere the Fisherwoman and the Dustman are on the same plate, and the plate of the Dr of Music is listed twice.
