The Parisian publishing house of the brother photographers Étienne (1832–1918) and Louis-Antonin Neurdein (1846–1914) was founded in Paris ca. 1885 and published postcards marked with an ND logo. However, Étienne already had begun publishing postcards in 1875 under the firm name Neurdein et Cie (founded by Étienne in 1864.) In 1887, both brothers ran the company, which was known as Neurdein Frères and as ND. Phot. beginning in 1906. In 1915, the name became Neurdein, and then again, from 1916 to 1918, Neurdein & Cie. Au tournant du siècle, ils étaient financés par le gouvernement français pour produire des images et des cartes postales de l'Algérie afin de promouvoir le tourisme colonial et de stimuler l'investissement privé.

One of the 18 examples where the signed lithographs are in two states: on Japon paper and also on Arduenna (this is # 16 of 18). These are loose in gathers, and uncut. With both an original signed sketch on glassine, and a simple pencil drawing. Enclosed in a light blue portfolio, and inside its original slipcase. Unpaginated. Laure Malcles-Masereel was an accomplished illustrator in her own right, previous to becoming Frans Masereel's second wife. Slipcase has some sun fading, and light wear. Spine of the portfolio has sun fading. Internally the lithographs and original artwork are all in a very good condition. 350 x 255…

Enfermé dans un portefeuille bleu clair, et à l'intérieur de son étui d'origine. Non paginé. Laure Malcles-Masereel était une illustratrice accomplie, avant de devenir la seconde épouse de Frans Masereel. L'étui a une certaine décoloration au soleil et une légère usure. La colonne vertébrale du portefeuille a une décoloration au soleil. À l'intérieur, les lithographies et les œuvres d'art originales sont toutes en très bon état. 350 x 255 mm

    As Ballett und Pantomime was produced not long after the end of WW1, Schnackenberg attracted attention with his creations. His figures and drawings make it clear that in dance and pantomime, the people felt they could reclaim the right to rejoice in the beauty of the body, in animated movement, in colour, in costume, in performance. Tipped on images size: 285 x 230 mm (11¼ x 9 inches). Whole sheet, including margins: 510 x 390 mm (20 x 15¼ inches). Sold under passe partout with colour of image picked out in detail to the edge.
