Brown cloth with gilt detail, and a reproduction of the title page laid in gold to the front board. Binding has a little bumping to the head and tail of the spine but is otherwise sound. Title page and 50 illustrated leaves, with picture and text to the recto only. The pictures, which have a verse in German below each, each show a scantily clad woman in the Belle Epoque style. The flesh of each woman is colour in a soft pink. Pages are a little darkened, but overall in very nice condition, Small closed tear repaired to end paper.A few other tiny closed tears. 260 by 200mm (10¼ by 7¾ inches).

One is the frontis portrait of Kafka, the other 3 are full page illustrations under tissue guards. To the first gather (which is otherwise blank) is a coloured pastel drawing by Santos, with the inscription "Pour m. et mme. Bouchet, avec amite Ant. Santos". To the rear is the colophon, which clearly states that the work includes four linogravures by Santos. Total limitation of 55 copies. Brünn [Brno]: Joseph George Trassler, 1801. Volume 75 of this encyclopedia. Engraved frontis and 67 engraved plates to the rear, several folding. (So complete). This volume contains the entries from "Passion" to "Linen" and many of the plates have wonderful images of people expressing different moods in the style of Lavater. Hardback, in paper covered boards (age uncertain but likely mid 20th Century) Original label pasted to the spine. Clean and tidy. Internally clean and tidy throughout, a little creasing to the edges of the folding plates, but overall in excellent condition. Brünn, the second city of the Czech republic, was at this time, the capital of Moravia, and had a German speaking majority amongst its population. VIII, 800 pp + plates.

The Berlin doctor Johann Georg Krünitz (1728-1796), who himself designed the first 73 volumes, gave the name to and initiated the ambitious undertaking. After his death, the work was continued first by the lawyer and composer Friedrich Jakob Floerke (1759-1799), and by his brother, the botanist Heinrich Gustav Floerke (1764-1835), volume 124-225 compiled by Johann Wilhelm David Korth (1783- 1861),

Original ribbon marker. The book's cloth covering is in a good condition, with gilt stamped title to front and spine. The dust jacket is darkened at the spine and to the edges, and has some nicks. Overall the book is in a very good condition, and very clean and tidy inside. 374, [1] pages. 260 x 215 mm (10¼ x 8½ inches). Edition originale sous jaquette originale illustrée. Housses de protection en verre sur la veste. Magnifiques illustrations en couleurs par A. Demian. Texte en français. Marqueur de ruban d'origine. Inside clean overall but with a little darkening and the odd stain. Still an attractive volume. Silverfish damage to the first couple of pages. [LXXV], 320. pp. Lengthy life of Fontaine to the front of the work. 200 x 120 mm (7¾ x 4¾ inches).

Ceylon: Colombo Apothecaries Co. Ltd, 1935. Scarce. First edition. Large softback. 33 rhymes, beautifully illustrated in black and white by Heather Hamer. Frontispiece, and all illustrations have original tissue guards. Soft covers show signs of age toning and handling. There is some wear to the spine with a small area of loss. Plain unprinted paper covers with no title or identification. Inside is in good condition, with some foxing; not affecting illustrations. 36 unnumbered pages. 285 x 225 mm (11¼ x 8¾ inches).

A collection of nursery rhymes and folk songs of the Sinhalese people of Sri Lanka - known at the time as Ceylon. In the foreword, by Sir Solomon Dias Bandaranaike, he writes "In terms of pure decorative art Heather Hamer is spiritually in the direct line of descent from Aubrey Beardsley, and the application of her gift to Sinhalese subjects is a happy piece of good fortune for us." In her preface, Hamer states that most of the rhymes in the book were taken from an old volume of 'The Taprobanian' (1887), or gathered from local people, having been passed down over many generations.

Tokyo: HeHe, 2015. First Edition. Soft back book, with dust wrapper and separate wraparound. Babaghuri designer Jurgen Lehl has created this photo book of colour images taken on Ishigaki Island in Japan's Okinawa Prefecture. Most are flip-flops or parts of them in various stages of degradation. Edited and designed by Hideaki Matsuura. The book is in a fine condition. 210 x 150 mm (8¼ x 6 inches).

Amsterdam: Wed. Aart Dirksz. Oossaan, 1694. A lovely copper plate engraving of the Ooster Kerk. Printed on two sheets, pasted together. A large print, believed to be from the large paper copy of the Beschryvinge van Amsterdam, Commelin's seminal work. Good clean impression on clean heavy laid paper. The paper holds a watermark of three crescent moons. This is often seen in Islamic printing, and was probably from Italian paper stock of the mid to late eighteenth century. Image size 26cm x 34cm. Sheet size 43cm x 50.5cm. A lovely uncoloured example of this engraving. First Edition

. Une belle gravure sur cuivre de l'Ooster Kerk. Imprimée sur deux feuilles collées l'une à l'autre. Une grande impression, que l'on croit provenir de la grande copie papier de la Beschryvinge van Amsterdam, l'ouvrage fondamental de Commelin. Bonne impression propre sur un papier vergé épais et propre. Le papier contient un filigrane de trois croissants de lune. Ce type de filigrane est fréquent dans l'imprimerie islamique et provient probablement d'un papier italien du milieu ou de la fin du dix-huitième siècle. Taille de l'image 26cm x 34cm. Taille de la feuille 43cm x 50.5cm. Un bel exemple non coloré de cette gravure.
