Paris: N/P. An attractive hand coloured lithograph, undated but 1802. Two panels on one sheet, laid onto a brown card backing sheet. The hand colouring is of a high quality and the sheet is in good, clean condition. Although the artist is unknown, "Les Musées de la Ville de Paris" state that this is from an album called simply "Caricature," and that it was sheet XIX, The two panels show the burial of the actress and dancer Marie-Adrienne Chameroy. She had died of consumption in 1802 (six months after the resumption of worship being permitted) at the age of 23. When her large entourage and coffin arrived at St Roch church, the doors were barred, shown here with a man and dog barring the way in the first panel. The nature of the crowd attending is displayed in the buxom nature of the women in the funeral train. Allegedly the refusal to bury her was based on the morality of her life, and a long standing tradition of barring actresses from church. The act caused much upset, even to the level of Napoleon himself. The procession then made its way to the church of the "Filles Saint Thomas" where mass was duly said. Le coloriage à la main est d'une grande qualité et la feuille est en bon état. Bien que l'artiste soit inconnu, "Les Musées de la Ville de Paris" indiquent que cette feuille provient d'un album intitulé simplement "Caricature" et qu'il s'agit de la feuille XIX. For Prince George" and the other a black boy with a rifle. Very good condition, with just a little rubbing to the binding and silver cover. Internally clean and tidy throughout, a very nice copy. 60 +2 pages. (the last two being publisher's reviews for Botto's work). London: George routledge and Sons, 1894. First Edition. Brown buckram with illustrated boards with gilt and black design and titles. The gilt is a little rubbed and there is some bumping to the edges. Binding is a little bumped and one of the illustrations (p118) is partially loose (to the lower half) but still holding in place. Small repair to the edge of the frontis illustration with archival tape. Some pencil under-linings to difficult words throughout suggest this was used as an educational aid. There is a fairly large hole in page 65/66 (see photographs). Still in reasonably sound condition overall though. Essentially a re-telling of Aesop's fables with the moral to the end of each tale. Quelques soulignements au crayon sur des mots difficiles tout au long de l'ouvrage suggèrent que celui-ci a été utilisé comme support pédagogique. Il y a un trou assez important à la page 65/66 (voir photographies). Dans l'ensemble, l'ouvrage est en assez bon état. London: NP, 1759. First edition. A nice copy of this engraving by Hogarth, showing a cock-fight. Engraving, printed onto stiff card. A few small creases to the edges. A couple of tiny closed tears. Some remnants of tape support to the verso. A lot of copies of this print available are from the 1822 Baldwin and Cradock edition of Hogarth's works. Ours is identical to the copy held at the Met - Object Number: 32.35(129). They name identify their copy as 1759, and we have followed them. It is possible that it does come from the Baldwin and Cradock edition. 32cm x 39cm.

Administration - Société Parisienne d'Edition, 1930. A nice collection of all six of the Lili children's magazines published by SPE. These appear to be the reissues printed in about 1930. In good overall condition, with a little edgewear and slight darkening to the pages. To the front of each is a colour paper cover. To the rear is a black and white advertisement for publications of the SPE. Inside there is a black and white title page for the "Thousand and one tricks of the mischievous Lili".. Each page has 9 illustrations with a text panel beneath each. There are 64 pages, of which 15 a printed in colour, and the remainder in black and white. L'Espiègle Lili is a classic French comic strip that first appeared in 1909 in the magazine Fillette and became one of the longest-running series in French comics history. Created by scriptwriter Jo Valle and illustrator André Vallet, the series chronicled the adventures of a clever, independent young French girl named Lili. 26.5cm x 18.5cm.

Chaque page comporte 9 illustrations avec un panneau de texte sous chacune d'elles. Il y a 64 pages, dont 15 sont imprimées en couleur et le reste en noir et blanc. L'Espiègle Lili est un classique de la bande dessinée française, apparu pour la première fois en 1909 dans le magazine Fillette et devenu l'une des séries les plus anciennes de l'histoire de la bande dessinée française. Créée par le scénariste Jo Valle et l'illustrateur André Vallet, la série raconte les aventures d'une jeune fille française intelligente et indépendante nommée Lili. 26,5 cm x 18,5 cm.

London: T. Nelson and Sons, 1867. First edition. Complete with 12 high quality colour lithographs and text. One of the "Nelsons' Pictorial Guide-Books for Tourists" series. Lilac covered blind and gilt stamped hardback with a colour lithograph pasted to the centre of the front cover. (This is one of the 12 lithographs). Pale blue end papers. Blind stamped booksellers embossed with "W.H. Smith & Co" to the front end paper. The work is complete with 11 lithographs inside, and 32 pages of accompanying text. There were other publications by Nelson at the same time. One was a portfolio with loose plates and 16 pages of text. Another with 24 plates combines the Interior and Exterior illustrations. Condition is excellent. A little fading to the front cover and spine, but clean and with minimal handling. Internally clean and tidy throughout. 11cm x 17cm. 32 pages. London: Rudolph Ackermann, 1813. An attractive, hand coloured engraving by Rowlandson. Removed from "Poetical Sketches of Scarborough." This work originally consisted of twenty-one plates etched by Thomas Rowlandson after James Green. The aquatint was added by John Bluck and Joseph Stadler. The sketches by Green were made as souvenirs and not intended for publication, but were ultimately published due to popular demand. Nice clean colouring making an attractive copy. Sheet has a little darkening to the blank area, and has glue stain and nicking to the bottom edge where removed from the original book. engraving is 11cm x 18cm. sheet is 14.5cm x 24cm. First Edition.

. Gravure attrayante, coloriée à la main par Rowlandson. Retirée de "Poetical Sketches of Scarborough" (Esquisses poétiques de Scarborough). Cette œuvre se composait à l'origine de vingt et une planches gravées à l'eau-forte par Thomas Rowlandson d'après James Green. L'aquatinte a été ajoutée par John Bluck et Joseph Stadler. Les croquis de Green ont été réalisés en tant que souvenirs et n'étaient pas destinés à la publication, mais ils ont finalement été publiés en raison de la demande populaire. Les couleurs sont belles et nettes, ce qui en fait un exemplaire attrayant. Signed in dedication by the illustrator, Ronald Searle. It is inscribed on the FFEP with a message from Ronald Searle and his wife Kaye to his friend Leonard Russell and his wife, dated Christmas 1952. Leonard Russell was an English journalist and satirist, well known as editor of the annual miscellany known as 'The Saturday Book'. No printer identified, but assume same as other copies available. [3] 44 [2] pages. 295 x 220 mm (11½ x 8¾ inches). Wrappers are a little age toned / grubby. There has been damage to the book from dampness, which has particularly affected the inside back cover, and the last two pages. Overall a good early presentation copy.

London: J. Pitt, C. 1800. C 1800. First edition. A small chapbook. Yellow paper covers, containing 12 songs and three woodcuts. In good condition. It is a rough and ready, disposable item. The yellow title has been printed off centre, and the pages jut out a little. Slight edgewear to the pages, but overall in good, clean condition. Some pages uncut. 16 pages. This collection compiles popular songs performed at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane and other public venues during a period when music and song were integral to both theatrical and social life in London. Drury Lane, under the management of figures like David Garrick (1747–1776), was a major centre for theatrical music, including comic opera, interludes, and songs woven into plays and performances. J. Pitts (John Pitts) was a prominent London street ballad printer active from approximately 1765 to 1844. He operated in the Seven Dials district, a well-known center for popular and cheap print production in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Pitts specialized in printing broadsides—single sheets featuring ballads, songs, and topical verses—intended for mass public consumption. 10cm x 7cm. Il s'agit d'un objet jetable, brut et prêt à l'emploi. Le titre jaune a été imprimé de manière décentrée et les pages dépassent un peu. Légères traces d'usure sur les pages, mais dans l'ensemble en bon état. Certaines pages ne sont pas coupées. 16 pages. Ce recueil compile des chansons populaires interprétées au Theatre Royal, Drury Lane et dans d'autres lieux publics à une époque où la musique et la chanson faisaient partie intégrante de la vie théâtrale et sociale à Londres. Drury Lane, sous la direction de personnalités comme David Garrick (1747-1776), était un centre majeur pour la musique théâtrale, y compris l'opéra comique, les interludes et les chansons intégrées dans les pièces et les représentations. Front free end paper has at some point been detached, and is now held in place with archival tape. 61 pages of text and then a separate plates section where all plates are protected by (some slightly darkened and some loose) tissue inserts. Clean copy of a scarce item. 290 x 225 mm (11½ x 8¾ inches).

. From the bookplate, we can see that this book belonged to Helge Loewenberg-Domp. She was a German musician and music (piano) seller of Jewish parents who escaped to the Netherlands before the war. She later went into hiding with her family, and survived the war. (Her brother died in the camps). She was one of the first to import Japanese pianos to the Netherlands. In the 1970's she was knighted to the Order of Orange-Naussau. Three years later, she founded the Helge Domp Foundation for Music for young musicians. She died in 2021.

One of 1000 unnumbered copies on handmade paper printed by Charles Whittingham & Co. at the Chiswick Press. The original soft covers of the parts have been retained and bound in to the rear. Recently repaired / re-spined in red leather with the original red leather boards. Some of the boards have some darkening / staining, but overall in very attractive condition. Internally the books are sound, but slightly darkened to the edges.
