france: NA, 1865. 21 albumen photographs on twenty sheets. 6 are hand tinted / coloured photographs of members of the Ouled Nail tribe, found mainly in Bou Saâda in Algeria. 2 appear to be commercial photographs, the other 19 are private photographs. These are attributed to Auguste Maure. He founded a photography studio in Biskra in 1860. Biskra features in several of the photographs here. He is also particularly known for photographing the Ouled Nail tribe. Hand written title. In a contemporary silk and velvet covered folder. It appears that the photographs (which are all laid onto stiff card backing) were originally bound into the folder - but they are now completely loose. Album dimensions: 165 by 100mm (6½ by 4 inches).

Areas hand finished with water colours, and highlighted with silver. This was printed in an edition of 850, with this plate taken from one of only 50 examples which were numbered and printed on handmade paper. Commissioned from Kunstanstalt Albert Frisch in Berlin. Lightly tipped on to original backing card. In very good condition, with just a little age toning. Wide margins, perfect for framing. WE HAVE OTHERS FROM THIS SET.
As Ballett und Pantomime was produced not long after the end of WW1, Schnackenberg attracted attention with his creations. His figures and drawings make it clear that in dance and pantomime, the people felt they could reclaim the right to rejoice in the beauty of the body, in animated movement, in colour, in costume, in performance. Tipped on images size: 285 x 230 mm (11¼ x 9 inches). Whole sheet, including margins: 510 x 390 mm (20 x 15¼ inches). Sold under passe partout with colour of image picked out in detail to the edge. France: S.P, 2015. An original portrait of William S. Burroughs on cardboard. The artist has used spray paint and stencil to produce a striking image of Burroughs. The artist has torn away some of the layers of card, to reveal unpainted card and elements of the corrugated card. To these, is stamped "Peule la poésie est révolutionnaire" (Only poetry is revolutionary). An also in black ink by hand the title, date and artists name. Blank to the verso (with just a few spots of the green ink. 30cm x 24cm. An attractive and unusual portrait.

This copy is one of 30 copies in rives blanc or teinté, in four volumes, Containing a suite of 147 lithographed illustrations. With the suite of 23 portraits as a separate volume, and with two original illustrations by Masson, in India Ink and enhanced with wash are bound into volume one. Also presented are the 12 refused plates. Beautifully presented in a Martin-Brés signed binding. Each volume has a uniform dark brown full leather, with gilt and embossed design to the boards and gilt titles to the spines. There is a touch of rubbing to the ribs and to the edges of the spines. Other than this, in excellent condition inside and out. We cannot find another copy of this work in the four volumes, with the original illustrations. 330 by 260mm (13 by 10¼ inches). 10kg.

(These pochoirs were printed with some colour and were hand finished). moderate edge wear, with some small closed tears and slight nicking to the edge of the sheet, slight marking otherwise. Clean but with a touch of foxing to the verso. The original album consisted of 38 plates. 510 by 325mm (20 by 12¾ inches). A copy of this print is held in the wonderful Les Musées de la ville de Paris. Inventory: G.37025.
SEM - Georges Goursat (1863–1934), was a French caricaturist famous during the Belle Époque. As well as the caricatures which made him famous, he created work in a very different style as a correspondent during World War I. His later work was very influenced by the "Jazz Age" and high society in Paris during the 1920's.

Les couleurs sont vives. (Ces pochoirs étaient imprimés avec quelques couleurs et finis à la main). Usure modérée des bords, avec quelques petites déchirures fermées et de légères entailles sur le bord de la feuille, légères marques par ailleurs. Propre mais avec un peu de rousseur au verso. L'album original comprenait 38 planches. 510 par 325mm (20 par 12¾ pouces). Une copie de cette estampe est conservée dans les merveilleux Musées de la ville de Paris. Inventaire : G.37025.
SEM - Georges Goursat (1863-1934) était un caricaturiste français célèbre à la Belle Époque. Outre les caricatures qui l'ont rendu célèbre, il a créé des œuvres d'un style très différent en tant que correspondant pendant la Première Guerre mondiale. A single sock hangs drying in the background. An attractive sheet, under passepartout). We have been unable to find any other copies, and cannot identify the illustrator. Image was once pasted down (into a scrapbook perhaps) and has a small loss to the bottom edge (hidden under the passepartout. Image size is 20cm x 30.5cm The frame is 29.5cm x 41.5cm.
