The stiff card slipcase is still in good, strong condition, with just a touch of handling to the grey boards. Title label to cover. The folder is in excellent clean condition, with no damage. The copy of the magazine itself, with attractive, rough cut edges, is in pristine condition. There is a tiny amount of darkening / offsetting only. 1869. Two fabulous original watercolours. Each shows a soldier sitting upon a rock. One shows a cavalry officer in full Cuirassier with sabre. The second is probably from a Dragoon regiment. Beautifully coloured and represented. Slight edgewear with nicking to the edges. Each is signed A. Gire to the bottom right corner. One is also dated 1869. Each measures: 440 x 300 mm (17¼ x 11¾ inches). Deux fabuleuses aquarelles originales. Chacun montre un soldat assis sur un rocher. L'une montre un officier de cavalerie en plein cuirassier au sabre. Le second provient probablement d'un régiment de dragons. Magnifiquement coloré et représenté. Légère usure des bords avec entailles sur les bords. Chacun est signé A. Zurich: 1996. First edition. A spotless poster for an Antoni Tàpies exhibition at the Galerie Lelong in Zurich. This is the scarce, first issued version, dated 1996. There was a later printing of this poster dated 1997. Antoni Tàpies was born in 1923 in Barcelona. He died in 2012. Poster is printed on brown paper (quite thin, almost wrapping paper). 68cm x 33cm.

Il y a eu une impression ultérieure de cette affiche, datée de 1997. Antoni Tàpies est né en 1923 à Barcelone. Il est décédé en 2012. L'affiche est imprimée sur du papier brun (assez fin, presque du papier d'emballage). 68cm x 33cm.

Munchen: 1860. A very nice copy of this albumen print by Franz Hanfstaengl, which reproduces a fresco present in the Prussian State Gallery of the Imperial Palace. The original painting was by Hermann Wislicenus. The photograph size is 19cm x 25cm. The backing card (with printed publication details) is 35.5 x 45.cm. The photographg is in excellent condition, with good quality, sepia tones. The backing card is sound, but has some darkening, and has a little edgewear to it. Slight foxing to the rear of the board. Overall an excellent example of this rare photograph. Franz Seraph Hanfstaengl (1804–1877) was a Bavarian painter, lithographer, and photographer. After some time producing lithographic reproductions of art works, he also opened a photographic studio in Munich in 1853. Although this image is undated, it is around 1860. He produced a well known series of photographs of eminent citizens.

La peinture originale a été réalisée par Hermann Wislicenus. Le format de la photographie est de 19 cm x 25 cm. La carte de support (avec les détails de la publication imprimés) est de 35,5 x 45 cm. La photographie est en excellent état, avec des tons sépia de bonne qualité. La carte de support est en bon état, mais elle présente un certain assombrissement et une légère usure des bords. Légères rousseurs au dos de la carte. Dans l'ensemble, il s'agit d'un excellent exemple de cette photographie rare. Franz Seraph Hanfstaengl (1804-1877) était un peintre, lithographe et photographe bavarois. Après avoir produit des reproductions lithographiques d'œuvres d'art, il a également ouvert un studio de photographie à Munich en 1853. Bien que cette image ne soit pas datée, elle se situe vers 1860. Il a produit une série bien connue de photographies de citoyens éminents.

Schiedam: Herman Jansen, 1943. An original 1940's advertising poster for Scheidam Jenever. Featuring a large Pinneke Proost, riding a bottle of Jansen Jenever. In excellent condition, without significant flaws. Framed in a sympathetic red metal frame under glass. In 1943, the company commissioned Marten Toonder to create "Het recept van Pinneke Proost." Pinneke Proost was the house gnome (Kabouter) of Jansen Gin. In the cartoon strip Toonder created, he saved the day by unmasking a fake gin, and showing that Jansen's was superior. Impressed by this, the company commissioned Hans G. Kresse (one of Toonder's team of workers) to create the advertising for them. This poster was the result. It was not used for long, and a smaller size was created from the 1950's. 46cm x 31cm visible area under passe partout and frame of 61cm by 43cm (The actual poster has part of the blank area hidden behind the passe partout and is approx 57cm x 36cm).

. Affiche publicitaire originale des années 1940 pour Scheidam Jenever. Elle représente un grand Pinneke Proost chevauchant une bouteille de genièvre Jansen. En excellent état, sans défauts significatifs. Encadrée dans un sympathique cadre métallique rouge sous verre. En 1943, l'entreprise a demandé à Marten Toonder de créer "Het recept van Pinneke Proost". Pinneke Proost était le nain de maison (Kabouter) de Jansen Gin. Dans la bande dessinée créée par Toonder, il sauve la situation en démasquant un faux gin et en démontrant que celui de Jansen est supérieur. Impressionnée, l'entreprise a demandé à Hans G. Kresse (l'un des collaborateurs de Toonder) de créer la publicité pour elle. Le résultat est cette affiche. Elle n'a pas été utilisée longtemps et un format plus petit a été créé à partir des années 1950. 46 cm x 31 cm de surface visible sous le passe-partout et cadre de 61 cm par 43 cm (l'affiche actuelle a une partie de la surface vierge cachée derrière le passe-partout et mesure environ 57 cm x 36 cm).

Paris: Becquet frères, C1850. First edition. An attractive French work teaching illustration to young people. Original cloth spine and hardback boards to paper covered binding with an intricate design to the front board. This has an individual number stamped to it (#770) so presumably the work was limited. There is no separate title, but there is a printed sheet giving information about the book. Then follow 25 plates for learning to draw, showing a variety of subjects. Curiously, we can find only one OCLC listing and one copy of this work for sale, and both list 24 plates (se we seem to have gained an extra)! Title and place of publication from cover

Le dos est en toile d'origine et les plats sont recouverts d'une reliure en papier avec un motif complexe sur le premier plat. L'ouvrage porte un numéro individuel estampillé (#770), ce qui laisse supposer qu'il s'agit d'une édition limitée. Il n'y a pas de titre séparé, mais il y a une feuille imprimée donnant des informations sur le livre. Suivent 25 planches pour apprendre à dessiner, montrant une variété de sujets. Paris: Imprimerie S. A. Courbet, 1955. Poster featuring the famous 'Normandie' liner. This was produced (circa 1950) in response to the advancing popularity of airlines for transcontinental travel. The image of the ship emphasizes stability, safety, comfort, style and luxury. A beautiful ocean liner as indicated by the enormous proportions of the ship. Featuring the French national colours, and the liner's huge, imposing bow dominates this striking image. 1000 x 610 mm (39¼ x 24 inches). The poster is signed in the plate on the lower right.

Paul Colin (1892 - 1985) was one of France's greatest poster artists. Famous for his 1925 poster for the Revue Nègre, which helped launch the career of Josephine Baker (who also became his mistress). Colin is considered a master of modern school or poster art, and created more than 1400 posters, many theatrical sets and also costume designs. Affiche représentant le célèbre paquebot 'Normandie'. Cela a été produit (vers 1950) en réponse à la popularité croissante des compagnies aériennes pour les voyages transcontinentaux. L'image du navire met l'accent sur la stabilité, la sécurité, le confort, le style et le luxe. Un beau paquebot comme l'indiquent les proportions énormes du navire. Présentant les couleurs nationales françaises, et l'énorme et imposante proue du paquebot domine cette image saisissante. 1000 x 610 mm (39¼ x 24 pouces). L'affiche est signée dans la planche en bas à droite.

Paul Colin (1892 - 1985) était l'un des plus grands affichistes français. Célèbre pour son affiche de 1925 pour la Revue Nègre, qui a permis de lancer la carrière de Joséphine Baker (devenue aussi sa maîtresse). Colin est considéré comme un maître de l'école moderne ou de l'art de l'affiche, et a créé plus de 1400 affiches, de nombreux décors de théâtre et aussi des conceptions de costumes.

London: 1910. An attractive children's game. There a blocks of wood, with 6 paintings pasted onto the six sides, when placed together they make a picture showing children playing. Held in a wooden box, which once have a clasp (now broken). There are 4 chromolithographed illustrations in the box, and a fifth is pasted onto the lid. We suspect there was a sixth, now missing. The blocks have rubbing to the corners, with slight loss of image. The lithographs are on thin paper, and has small nicks and tears to the edges, but still attractive. Darkening to the image on the front board. Overall, an attractive game, showing signs of regular use. This was clearly British, from the red post box on the image to the lid of the box. The dating is from the children's clothing, particularly the sailor suit on the cover. 150 x 190 mm (6 x 7½ inches).

Anon, 1930. A lovely copy of this German aquatint etching, signed (but indecipherable). With title "Ein Windstross." Early 20th Century, circa 1930 from the distinctly Art Deco styling and clothing. A young woman holds her hat against the wind, whilst her skirt (cut to the "Italian Length") billows. She holds her umbrella tightly furled against the wind. Nice colouring. Watermark to paper. A touch of edge wear to the large margins. Engraving 350 mm x 195 mm. Size in total: 460 mm x 300 mm.

Début du 20e siècle, vers 1930, d'après le style et les vêtements nettement Art déco. Une jeune femme tient son chapeau contre le vent, tandis que sa jupe (coupée à la "longueur italienne") ondule. Elle tient son parapluie fermement enroulé contre le vent. Jolie mise en couleur. Filigrane sur le papier. Un peu d'usure dans les grandes marges. Gravure 350 mm x 195 mm. Dimensions totales : 460 mm x 300 mm.

Mexico: Paramount Film Services, 1968. First edition. An attractive mexican lobby card for the Spanish language release of the British firl "The Strange Affair." Released in 1968, this started Michael York, Susan George and Jeremy Kemp. It is based on the 1966 novel by former Metropolitan policeman and private investigator Bernard Toms. This poster is for the Mexican release of the film. Clean card, with some edgewear and nicking to the edges. The car is cur a little tight to the edge at the top and left edge. Still an attractive card that could be nicely framed. 31.5cm x 41cm.

. Première édition. Une jolie carte de lobby mexicaine pour la sortie en langue espagnole du film britannique "The Strange Affair". Sorti en 1968, ce film met en scène Michael York, Susan George et Jeremy Kemp. Il est basé sur le roman de 1966 de l'ancien policier métropolitain et détective privé Bernard Toms. Cette affiche est destinée à la sortie mexicaine du film. Carte propre, avec quelques traces d'usure et d'encoche sur les bords. La voiture est un peu serrée sur le bord supérieur et le bord gauche. Il s'agit néanmoins d'une carte attrayante qui pourrait être joliment encadrée. 31,5 cm x 41 cm.

Polydor Paris / Verve, 1982. A beautiful collection. Five vinyl LP records of Fitzgerald singing Gershwin songs. Each LP is held in a sleeve with an original lithograph cover by Bernard Buffet. The records are then held in a box with song details to the rear, and a repeat of the first lithograph. In practically as new condition. Fractional evidence of handling. The records all appear fresh and unscratched, but have not been tested / played by us. In 1959, this collection was produced by Verve of Paris. Buffet was commissioned to create original designs for the records, and music was sung by Ella Fitzgerald, with an orchestra conducted by Nelson Riddle. This copy is the second edition / Polydor Re-issue from 1982. The records and lithographs have been replicated from the original verve publication. (There was a text book that accompanied the original issue - this was not part of this Polydor re-issue). Complete and as issued. NB - although published / created in Paris - all song titles etc. are in the original English. See photographs on our website for song titles / listing. 320 by 320mm (12½ by 12½ inches).

Chaque disque est présenté dans une pochette avec une couverture lithographique originale de Bernard Buffet. Les disques sont ensuite placés dans une boîte avec les détails de la chanson au dos, et une répétition de la première lithographie. Pratiquement à l'état neuf. Quelques traces de manipulation. Les disques semblent tous frais et non rayés, mais n'ont pas été testés / joués par nos soins. En 1959, cette collection a été produite par Verve of Paris. Buffet a été chargé de créer des dessins originaux pour les disques, et la musique a été chantée par Ella Fitzgerald, avec un orchestre dirigé par Nelson Riddle. Cet exemplaire est la deuxième édition / réédition Polydor de 1982. Les disques et les lithographies ont été reproduits à partir de la publication originale de Verve. (Un manuel accompagnait l'édition originale - il ne fait pas partie de cette réédition Polydor). Complet et tel qu'il a été publié. NB - bien que publié / créé à Paris - tous les titres de chansons etc. sont en anglais. 320 x 320 mm

Paris: Chez Bennet, 1790. A lovely example of a sanguine engraving by Bennet, after an original design of Joseph Marie Vien. Undated, but states that Vien is a professor under the protection of the King. He held the role of "Premier peintre du Roi" from 1789-1791. Good, clean condition, with a little darkening and creasing to the edges only. Slight edgewear. It is printed No. 81 to the top left. We have been unable to identify which pope is pictured, and the only image online that matches this print has erroneous attribution. A large sheet, 51cm by 40cm (20 by 15¾ inches).

Nous n'avons pas été en mesure d'identifier le pape représenté, et la seule image en ligne qui correspond à cette estampe a une attribution erronée. Il s'agit d'une grande feuille de 51 cm sur 40 cm (20 sur 15¾ pouces).

Now in protective sleeve. Book is in very good condition, but with some staining / damp loss to the bottom edge of the boards. Slight musty smell. Inside, the book is clean and tidy.
