Attractively framed under a white passe partout, and in a gilt wooden frame. Under glass. The poster is in excellent condition. Slight darkening to the sheet, and a couple of small foxing spots, but still an attractive poster. It is a large item. The poster area is 50cm x 31cm. The frame size is 77cm x 57cm.

This is a sammlung of two works. The catechism of the Bishop of Condom, together with the catechism for holy days, Holy Sunday (Easter Sunday) and parish mass. Text in Dutch. Paris: S.P, C1935. An original ink sketch of the Cathédrale Saint-Maclou, Pontoise by Albert Lemasson. It shows the detailing of one corner of the exterior of the cathedral. A sketch in ink, and signed in ink by the artist to the bottom right. 50.5cm x 33cm. The work has, clearly been hung at some point, and has the remnant of tape to the rear. Overall a very clean sheet, with just a touch of darkening. A nice sketch. Cathédrale Saint-Maclou in Pontoise, France, is a Roman Catholic cathedral blending Romanesque, Gothic, and Renaissance styles. Originally built as a parish church in the mid-12th century, it was elevated to cathedral status in 1966 upon the creation of the Diocese of Pontoise.. Albert Lemasson was a French painter (1892-1982. He was classically trained and entered the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in Paris in 1919. Lemasson specialized for about 25 years mainly in church decoration through frescoes, often working with his brother Paul Lemasson. Besides frescoes, he painted a variety of works including portraits, landscapes, and scenes from his travels in France, Italy, Spain, and Greece using oil, watercolor, ink, and other mediums. He exhibited his works in several galleries in Paris, Nantes, and Bordeaux over many decades.

Esquisse à l'encre, signée à l'encre par l'artiste en bas à droite. 50,5 cm x 33 cm. L'œuvre a manifestement été accrochée à un moment donné et présente des traces de ruban adhésif au dos. Dans l'ensemble, la feuille est très propre, avec juste une légère trace de noircissement. Une belle esquisse. La cathédrale Saint-Maclou de Pontoise, en France, est une cathédrale catholique romaine mêlant les styles roman, gothique et Renaissance. Construite à l'origine comme église paroissiale au milieu du XIIe siècle, elle a été élevée au rang de cathédrale en 1966 lors de la création du diocèse de Pontoise. Albert Lemasson était un peintre français (1892-1982). Il a suivi une formation classique et est entré à l'École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris en 1919. Lemasson s'est spécialisé pendant environ 25 ans principalement dans la décoration d'églises par des fresques, travaillant souvent avec son frère Paul Lemasson. Outre les fresques, il a peint diverses œuvres, notamment des portraits, des paysages et des scènes de ses voyages en France, en Italie, en Espagne et en Grèce, utilisant l'huile, l'aquarelle, l'encre et d'autres techniques. Il a exposé ses œuvres dans plusieurs galeries à Paris, Nantes et Bordeaux pendant plusieurs décennies.

London: John Norton for Joyce Norton, 1633. A nice copy of this two volume work, unfortunately lacking the title page to Volume I. The volume starts on gather A. Original full leather boards, with a touch of bumping / edgewear to the boards. Recent spine with titles and date to the spine. There is a little water staining to the work, particularly to the edges, and a slight nicking to the edges of the blank front end paper. Some darkening / foxing, again particularly to the edges. Owner's inscriptions to the inside front board and to the 2nd end paper. (IWe think what is laid in as the first end paper is a later addition, when the spine was replaced - the second end paper appears from condition and inscriptions to be the original one). Also lacking is leaf 3I2 (page 99/100) with the text here also lacking. Bizarrely, a full page plate, dating from 1814 has been laid in to face page 275. This is an engraving by Wm Craig and L. Brown, showing national liberty crushing the nations of Europe. This is perhaps laid in here as it is opposite an homily against Disobedience and Wilfull rebellion. This long homily, published in various forms, is important, as it was part of the celebrations following the failure of the rebellions against Queen Elizabeth I. To the end of the work is "A thankesgiving for the suppression of the last rebellion."

Luzern: Josef Stocker, 1944. First edition. An attractive copy of this numbered limited first edition. #384/1500. Bound in the pouch binding style, Stiff cream card binding, sewn with cord to the spine. The cover is a little darkened, and has some slight rubbing to the covers. A little splitting to the spine, but this is a limited issue as the cord holds the binding together. Internally clean and tidy, but with a little darkening to the page edges. Each month has a page of script to the left, and a full page illustration to the right leaf. 44 pages. 39cm x 28cm. Richard Seewald (1889-1976). A Munich born painter and illustrator. From 1931 he settled in Ticino, an Italian speaking part of Switzerland. He converted to Roman Catholicism whilst living here. He returned to Germany in 1948.

Amsterdam: Wed. F. J. Van Teroode, 1821. New edition. Attractive burgundy full leather binding with gilt titles and decoration to the binding. Somewhat darkened, and rubbed to the edges. Still attractive though. All edges gilt. Attractive engraved title page with vignette. Portrait of the author. Four further full page engraved plates. Signed by the publisher to the colophon. Each page has an attractive, and unusual, printed border. Internally mainly clean, but with a little staining to the corners of the plates, and to the final blank pages. Offerman was a Dutch Roman Catholic priest. This was published by the Widow of the publisher Van Teroode, and is a nice example of widow's continuing their husband's publishing business. 160 by 95mm (6¼ by 3¾ inches). [xvi], 531 pages.

Books in fine condition, slipcase has some soiling to the cream colour of the laid on cover illustrations. 305 x 210 mm (12 x 8¼ inches).

Title page, 1 sheet of text and 8 sheets of woodcuts (including title woodcut). Nice copy. First edition of the important woodcut series by the Franconian artist Rudolf Schiestl. To the title page is an attractive armorial stamp in blue ink, from Rigi Kaltbad, a commune in Switzerland. The pages themselves are in excellent, clean and tidy condition. Printed signature to the first plate. There was also a special edition of 600 copies on larger paper using the woodblocks cut by Schiestl himself. 225 by 270mm (8¾ by 10¾ inches)

Paris: Chez Bennet, 1790. A lovely example of a sanguine engraving by Bennet, after an original design of Joseph Marie Vien. Undated, but states that Vien is a professor under the protection of the King. He held the role of "Premier peintre du Roi" from 1789-1791. Good, clean condition, with a little darkening and creasing to the edges only. Slight edgewear. It is printed No. 81 to the top left. We have been unable to identify which pope is pictured, and the only image online that matches this print has erroneous attribution. A large sheet, 51cm by 40cm (20 by 15¾ inches).

Original dark grey cloth with gilt titles. In as new condition. A lovely collection of photographs of pilgrims and Ex votos*. Selected by Sean O'Hagan as one of The Guardian newspaper's Top 15 Photography Books of 2019. 47 plates, 98 pages. 290 x 232 mm. *An ex-voto is an object offered in fulfilment of a vow or as an expression of gratitude for a favour received, typically from a saint, the Virgin Mary, or a deity. The term comes from the Latin ex voto suscepto, meaning "from the vow made." Ex-votos are commonly left at shrines, churches, or other sacred places as a tangible sign of thanks for prayers answered or miracles granted.

Contains: A general title; The Old Testament (but no separate Old Testament Title page); The New Testament With Title; Revelation ; 2 Concordances (With separate title stating that these were collected by R.F.H.) ; Book of Psalms (Separate title state that they were collected by Thomas Sternehold & John Hopkins). Bound in full 20th century mottled calf. Plain new endpapers. 4 raised bands to spine, blind decorations to compartments. Board edges patterned. Black and gilt label & titles to spine. All title pages present. Final 3 pages, Psalms with very old repairs and one page inserted out of order. Psalms complete but Creed incomplete at end of book (So ends at page 92). All sections dated 1608. Robert Barker. The noted issues with this copy are: f68 marked as f96; f173 with pasted down border note; f329 (last of Ezekiel misbound in Daniel); f330 present but with loss of a large are of text; f434 mispaginated as f435; f435 has large ink stain to verso; f464 small closed tear; f483 torn with some loss; f490 mispaginated as f499; f534 complete but torn; Book of Psalms: 1st 10 pages unpaginated; p28 mispaginated as p27; p86 mispaginated as p66; pps 87/88 exchanged with pps 89/90; The final two leaves have been repaired, and the final leaf with moderate loss to the edges. As is inevitable with a Bible of this age, there are also tiny tears, nicks and edgewear, and a general darkening of the pages, nevertheless s a very nice example. This edition of the Geneva Bible received the nickname Breeches Bible, because on its erroneous translation of Genesis Chapter 3, Verse 7. The text reads: 'Then the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked, and they sewed figge tree leaves together, and made themselves breeches.' Each page is numbered to the recto only (if at all) so these are actually leaf numbers (so we refer to fn). To confuse matters further, the book of psalms numbers each page, not leaf. Full collation: [ii], 1-554, [1-98], [1]-91.pp Collation: [lacks blank q1], q2-Zzz10, A-L2, A-G3. Our copy substantially conforms to Darlow & Moule 225a. The states that it is substantially a close reprint of the 1605 quarto, with text ending on fo.554 (as does ours for the OT and NT) and with Gen. i. 3: 'Then God Sayd...' 240 by 170mm (9½ by 6¾ inches).

Le texte se lit comme suit : Les yeux de l'un et de l'autre s'ouvrirent, et ils connurent qu'ils étaient nus. Ils cousirent ensemble des feuilles de figuier et se firent une culotte. Chaque page n'étant numérotée qu'au recto (voire pas du tout), il s'agit en fait de numéros de feuilles (nous nous référons donc à fn). Pour compliquer encore les choses, le livre des psaumes numérote chaque page, et non chaque feuille. Collation complète : [ii], 1-554, [1-98], [1]-91.pp Collation : [manque le blanc q1], q2-Zzz10, A-L2, A-G3. Notre exemplaire est en grande partie conforme à Darlow & Moule 225a.
