Originally published in installments between 1824-1826, it was part of the Catholic Emancipation debate. As ever, Cobbett was somewhat of a contrarian radical, and in this work supports the Catholic position. Un exemplaire de la Bibliothèque catholique de la Belgique. Publié à l'origine par tranches entre 1824 et 1826, il faisait partie du débat sur l'émancipation catholique. Comme toujours, Cobbett était un peu un radical à contre-courant, et dans cet ouvrage soutient la position catholique.

These volumes came from the St Birgittae de Sion (Bridgettine) monastery at Chudleigh in Devon. They were donated to the Abbey (and each has an inscription stating this) by the Rev. Benedict Williamson. Wiliamson was a prominent Catholic Architect, and supporter of the Bridgetinnes. He was ordained a priest in 1909 and was behind many of the finest early 20th Century Catholic Churches.

*Acta Apostolicae Sedis (Latin for "Acts of the Apostolic See"), often cited as AAS, is the official gazette of the Holy See, appearing about twelve times a year. It was established by Pope Pius X on 29 September 1908 with the decree Promulgandi Pontificias Constitutiones, and publication began in January 1909. It contains all the principal decrees, encyclical letters, decisions of Roman congregations, and notices of ecclesiastical appointments. The laws contained in it are to be considered promulgated when published, and effective three months from date of issue, unless a shorter or longer time is specified in the law

The original funeral oration for Charles II. Now bound in faux leather boards with gilt titles to the front board. End papers from time of binding. Bound in to the rear are two additional leaves, printed in Circa 1816 and each offering a hymn composed by Joseph Wiggins. He was a member of Stretton Friendly Society (Quakers). The faux leather cover is clean and bright. The text is mainly clean, with a touch of marking / foxing to it. small number 19 to title suggests that this has been abstracted from a larger collection at some point. [6], 26, [4] p. ; 4⁰. All edges gilt. Text in French. Includes space for notes / souvenirs, and a calendar. [2], 45, [45] pp. 125 x 80 mm (5 x 3¼ inches). Boards soft at corners, small ink mark to front board, and discolouration under gilt decorated borders. Upper joint split, and inside is slightly foxed; and hinges have been repaired at some point. Caroline-Stéphanie-Félicité or Madame de Genlis (25 January 1746 – 31 December 1830) was a French writer of the late 18th and early 19th century, best known for her novels and theories on children's education. her devotion to religion, morality, and feminine submission, strangely contrasts with her own life and her art. Très rare. Première édition, dans de jolies planches contemporaines turquoises avec des décorations dorées. Avec une page de titre gravée et des portraits de saints gravés. Front has a small label at the bottom left and small ink number to the top left. Inside front has small label from Lucien Bodin Librairie, Paris. Title page has neat ink name to top right, dated 1913. Light foxing throughout. Overall in an excellent condition. 91 pages. 210 x 135 mm (8¼ x 5¼ inches). The Edinburgh Review was one of the most influential British magazines of the 19th century. This translation was extracted from an article in issue CCII. Première édition. Couvertures en papier d'origine, désormais protégées par une pellicule de verre. Texte en français. Les couvertures avant et arrière sont toutes deux partiellement assombries. London: John Norton for Joyce Norton, 1633. A nice copy of this two volume work, unfortunately lacking the title page to Volume I. The volume starts on gather A. Original full leather boards, with a touch of bumping / edgewear to the boards. Recent spine with titles and date to the spine. There is a little water staining to the work, particularly to the edges, and a slight nicking to the edges of the blank front end paper. Some darkening / foxing, again particularly to the edges. Owner's inscriptions to the inside front board and to the 2nd end paper. (IWe think what is laid in as the first end paper is a later addition, when the spine was replaced - the second end paper appears from condition and inscriptions to be the original one). Also lacking is leaf 3I2 (page 99/100) with the text here also lacking. Bizarrely, a full page plate, dating from 1814 has been laid in to face page 275. This is an engraving by Wm Craig and L. Brown, showing national liberty crushing the nations of Europe. This is perhaps laid in here as it is opposite an homily against Disobedience and Wilfull rebellion. This long homily, published in various forms, is important, as it was part of the celebrations following the failure of the rebellions against Queen Elizabeth I. To the end of the work is "A thankesgiving for the suppression of the last rebellion."

London: Richard Chiswell, 1699. First edition. Old, but not contemporary full leather binding. 6 raised panels to the spine, with gilt panels and label. Bookplate to the inside board. Frontis illustration of Chichele (by M Burghers). A small ink annotation to the ffep shows that the book was purchased for 2 S. 6 d. in 1699 (12.5 pence). 8vo. First edition. Although shown by Duck as almost a Saint, and presented as a Protestant before the Reformation, for his arguments with Pope Martin, a modern view would look at Chichele as a lawyer and diplomat who protected his various prebends and livings at every chance, and who, whilst working to prevent schizm in the Church and Papacy, was nonetheless prone to personal arguments with the popes. The work is dedicated to Archbishop Thomas - this was Thomas Tenison, Archbishop of Canterbury at the time of writing. The binding is in a good clean condition. A little rubbing to the binding edges. still holding well. Internally, generally clean and tidy, with a touch of darkening to the end papers. slight water damage to the edge of the last two leaves (not affecting text). Henry Chichele (1364-1443) from Northamptonshire became Archbishop of Canterbury and founded All Souls College, Oxford. Arthur Duck, was a Fellow of All Souls.
