To the inside board is an owner's signature for David S. Miall. dated April 17th. 1965. Then aged 18, he later became professor of English at the University of Alberta. 86 pages. 220 by 140mm (8¾ by 5½ inches).

Sylvia Plath's "Ariel" is both a celebrated poetry collection and the title poem within it, marking a dramatic shift in Plath's style and literary reputation. Published posthumously in 1965, "Ariel" established Plath as a major figure in modern poetry, noted for its intense imagery, psychological exploration, and raw emotional power. "Ariel" contains some of Plath's most iconic works, including "Lady Lazarus" and "Daddy," alongside the title poem, all of which exemplify her confessional style and fearless engagement with themes such as mental illness, death, female identity, and creative transformation. The poems were written during a period of personal upheaval, following the dissolution of her marriage to Ted Hughes and leading up to her untimely death.

The binding is in good, clean condition. Owner's bookplate to the inside board. To the front end paper is tipped in a paper cover from the original parts. Frontis illlustration of a bust of the Baron. Title page (which seems identical to the book title). In addition to the page numbers at the top of each page, there are the numbers 1-29 to the bottom right of some pages. Presumably these are indicators of the separate livrasions? (and no idea why numbered to 29 as the work is complete). There is some reinforcement to the verso of the soft cover and the frontis engraving. The rest of the book is sound, with a touch of foxing to some pages. Small closed tear to the base of one page. Complete with the frontis and 31 full page illustrations, as well as a large number of vignette illustrations. Overall a decent copy. conforms to WorldCat / OCLC: 7185954. vii, 230 pages. 29.5cm x 20cm.
