The binding has been restored with a cloth backstrip, and reinforced to the front and rear hinge inside as well. A little rubbing to the edges of the boards, with some slight chipping. Inside, the pages and plates are in very nice condition, with just a little of darkening to the text pages. 12 colour plates, title and a further 10 leaves of text, including a final leaf with a facsimile of a hand written poem by Henley. Adverts to rear. 340 by 290mm (13½ by 11½ inches). In this first edition, the bus driver only appears on the front board, not as a plate inside. Amsterdam: Fw: Books, 2015. First edition. Signed by the author to the front. Red covers, softback. Colour photography throughout. 'Nationalfeiertag', is a book about one of the biggest, and most monitored squares in the world: Tiananmen Square in Beijing. In April and May of 1989 student protests took place and there was a massacre on June 4th. Officials and police attempted to control the images taken, but Katja Stuke filmed a few hours of material at the time and on the Chinese National Holiday in October. From this footage she extracted hundreds of portraits. The book combines these portraits with newspaper clippings which are collected and spread by the June 4th Museum in Hong Kong to keep the memory of the protests of 1989 alive. Unpaginated [560 pages]. In very good condition. 235 x 165 mm (9¼ x 6½ inches).

Paris / Bruxelles: éditions du Disque Vert, 1922. A nice copy of this first / limited edition volume of poetry. From a total limitation of 500 copies (including 100 Hors Commerce) this copy has no number - so is presumably one of the H-C copies.
Softback, with cream covers. These are mainly clean, with a little darkening to the front cover top edge. The book is held within a glassine protective cover, which is clean but slightly darkened. Internally, the book is in good condition, with a little foxing - particularly to the first and last few pages.
Odilon-Jean Périer was a Belgian poet of French heritage. He was born in Brussels in 1901 and died there in 1928 of rheumatic pericarditis. His birth name was Jean, but he chose the pseudonym Odilon-Jean Périer to avoid confusion with the actor Jean Périer. He was particularly associated with Surrealist artists and poets. He is still remembered today, with exhibitions and monuments to him in Brussels. 86 pages. 185 by 145mm (7¼ by 5¾ inches).

Odilon-Jean Périer était un poète belge d'origine française. Il est né à Bruxelles en 1901 et y est mort en 1928 d'une péricardite rhumatismale. Paris: Mercure de France, 1947. An attractive, half leather bound copy of Laforgue's poetry. This was originally published as two volumes in softback as part of the Oeuvres complètes. Here the two volumes have been bound as one. Red leather spine with gilt raised bands, titles and decorations. The red leather is somewhat faded to the spine (but uniformly). To the front board, the leather has faded a little more to the top than to the rest. Red buckram boards. The whole is a little rubbed, but overall clean and tidy. Half title, and title to volume one, with date and publisher's details. Then follows the the poems themselves, and finally the contents of volume one. This same pattern is repeated for volume 2. Internally clean and tidy, with just a touch of darkening to the page edges. 284, [iv], 254 pages. 20cm x 15cm.
