Still an attractive copy of an uncommon engraving. Published by artist and art dealer Pierre Fouquet Jr. (1729-1800). The first series of 10 townscapes having been issued in 1760-61 engraved by Paul van Liender and Simon Fokke after the drawings by the well known engraver of town and landscapes Jan de Beyer, followed in 1764-68 by a series of 12 views by Caspar Philips Jacobsz, who also engraved the plates after J. de Vlaaming in 1768-69. 73 plates are undated, 59 of which are by H. Schoute who never dated his engravings and seldom signed them. Other artists who contributed to the Atlas are C. Bogerts after H. Keun., J. van der Schley after P.R. van Dijk and Coppier and Simon Fokke after six more drawings by Jan de Beyer.

There appear to have been two versions printed. This version - which was the engravings only, There was also another version, printed simultaneously, with letterpress text to one leaf to accompany the smaller engravings (they are about half the size of our engravings). This latter published by Harper & Co. Original paper covered boards. These have black text within a decorated border, and red leather spine. The boards are somewhat rubbed, and have staining to them (particularly the front board). Still sturdy though. Title page, 12 double leaf plates with blank reverse. These are still very attractive, but have some water staining to the edges - particularly of the later pages. This is faded a little, and does not really affect the plates. Conforms to OCLC: 181773865 which FirstSearch records only one library copy at McMaster in California. The original paintings have been attributed to Pierre-Antoine Demachy (1723-1807) left a large number of views of Paris, and who showed a particular interest in Napoleon's major architectural improvements. 430 by 380mm (17 by 15 inches).

Pote was an Eton school housemaster and bookseller. "Jos[eph] Pote of Eton, a man of great renown, / Buys a book for sixpence, and sells it for a crown" (from ODNB).

. Rare. Douglas Gordon k.364. A journey by train.

London: Gagosian Gallery, 2011. Spiral-bound softcover in slipcase. This book was published on the occasion of the exhibition Douglas Gordon: k.364 at Gagosian, Britannia Street, London. Gordon`s film k.364 documents two Israeli musicians of Polish descent (Avri Levitan and Roi Shiloah) traveling from Berlin to Poland by train. Shown on two screens and with layered sound, the film follows the two men through a desolate landscape in a country whose tragic and violent history is barely resolved for them. • Photograph of the inside of the Mezquita de Córdoba by [ANON]
    [ANON]
Photograph of the inside of the Mezquita de Córdoba

Cordoba (Spain): NA, 1880. An attractive photograph of the pillars inside the Mezquita de Córdoba (The mosque). By an unknown photographer. Circa 1880-1890. Pasted onto a stiff grey mounting card, with calligraphic title beneath ("Del inre af Kathedralen i Cordova"). It bears the number 8 in the negative, so may be a tourist photograph. The photograph is in good condition with a couple of small nicks to the edges. The mounting card is in good clean condition. Dating from this period, it is difficult to distinguish between and albumen print and an early silver gelatin card mounted photograph. We lean towards the latter. Photograph size is 220mm x 280mm. The mount size is 345mm x 410mm.
