Italy: N/A, 1880. A lovely small (9cm x 14cm) gouache of a cherub placing a ladder against a rail of vines with grapes hanging. Against a black background. Well executed Italian late nineteenth century illustration, signed in white to the bottom right corner. The painting is behind glass, and beautifully framed in a lemon wood frame. Both gouache and frame are in excellent condition. Frame size is 17.5cm x 22cm.

Slipcase is in very good condition, with just a touch of rubbing to the edges. Matching card folder with leather label in excellent condition. The illustrated cover is in good condition, with a little rubbing to the spine label, slight colour bleed to the edges, and a slight darkening. The rest of the sheets are in very good condition, with fractional darkening. 196 pages. 250 by 200mm (9¾ by 7¾ inches).

Reims: 1984. A scarce poster for G.H. Martel champagne, signed and dated in the plate by the artist. Currently in a simple dark wood frame under glass. From the printer's marks on the edge of the print, this may well have been a printer's proof of the design for reproduction in magazines etc. This is a large object. The visible area of the poster is 53cm x 41cm. The frame is 65cm x 51cm. The poster has some creasing to the edges, and either a crease or a repaired tear to one edge. (We haven't examined it out of the frame. The frame is sound but with some handling. Never the less, and attractive poster. 4kg packed. We have been able to trace one image online in an online champagne collection. There are no copies for sale at the time of cataloguing. Can be removed from the frame and sent in a poster tube if desired.

, Rare affiche pour le champagne G.H. Martel, signée et datée dans la plaque par l'artiste. Elle se trouve actuellement dans un cadre simple en bois foncé sous verre. D'après les marques d'imprimeur sur le bord de l'impression, il pourrait bien s'agir d'une épreuve d'imprimeur du dessin pour reproduction dans des magazines, etc. Il s'agit d'un objet de grande taille. La partie visible de l'affiche mesure 53 cm x 41 cm. Le cadre mesure 65 cm x 51 cm. L'affiche présente quelques plis sur les bords, ainsi qu'un pli ou une déchirure réparée sur l'un des bords. (Nous ne l'avons pas examiné hors du cadre. Le cadre est sain mais a subi quelques manipulations. Il s'agit néanmoins d'une affiche attrayante. 4kg emballé. Nous avons pu retrouver une image en ligne dans une collection de champagne en ligne. Il n'y a pas d'exemplaires en vente au moment de l'établissement du catalogue. L'affiche peut être retirée du cadre et envoyée dans un tube si vous le souhaitez.

Paris: Chez Lamy, 1783. New edition. This appears to be a "cheap edition" of a 1750 edition. Soft paper covers with a blue lined pattern (pasted onto an old sheet of printed paper). The paper is darkened, and is chipped to the edges. There is also splitting along the paper spine. The binding is still holding. To the inside front cover is a pasted label of the Nancy Library of Vincenot. The book itself is in good condition, but with a little edgewear and some chipping tp the edges. The work is in two major parts, a calendar dealing with the work required month by month for a vegetable garden. There is then a second monthly account for "Foreign plants" and flower gardens / greenhouses. Two shorter parts include the cultivation of pineapples and that of asparagus. Although the title states "with figures" these would seem to be the decorations of chapter headings. There are no plates missing, and none called for by the OCLC listing. 183 pages. 190 by 110mm (7½ by 4¼ inches). Conforms to FirstSearch / Worldcat OCLC: 258623413. Scarce.

Le papier est noirci et ébréché sur les bords. Le dos en papier est également fendu. La reliure tient toujours. A l'intérieur de la couverture se trouve une étiquette collée de la Bibliothèque de Nancy de Vincenot. Le livre lui-même est en bon état, mais avec un peu d'usure et d'écaillage sur les bords. L'ouvrage est composé de deux parties principales, un calendrier qui traite du travail requis mois par mois pour un jardin potager. Il y a ensuite un deuxième compte-rendu mensuel pour les "plantes étrangères" et les jardins de fleurs / serres. Deux parties plus courtes traitent de la culture des ananas et de celle des asperges. Bien que le titre indique "avec figures", celles-ci semblent être les décorations des têtes de chapitres. Complete with a folding map of Bordeaux and 17 plates (including several folding plates). ‎Pages 65 to 255 form a notice on Bordeaux wines with, for each canton, the number of barrels and the names of the owners of more than ten barrels. Modern binding, full dark green sheepskin, boards covered with original covers (laminated). Gilded title to the spine. Condition: well preserved binding which shows traces of friction, and a little nicking to the edges. Fresh interior, very white laid paper with no or very rare foxing. Good copy. 576 pages. 135 by 100mm.

Book itself is in excellent condition. A lovely red wine coloured cloth. Black and white and colour illustrations throughout. featuring over eleven hundred fifty European titles with annotations, dating from the 15th to 20th century. 644 pages. 29cm x 21cm.

Nantes: Maison Turcaud, 1905. A pink silk menu, with an attractive stitched design to the top third, and a menu printed in brown to the bottom two thirds. The stitched design shows an art nouveau image with a woman with a headpiece surrounded by bunches of flowers. The menu is in a poor condition, with a little fraying to the left edge, but more importantly, has a split to the middle where the item has been folded. A few small marks and stains. Still attractive. 290 by 90mm (11½ by 3½ inches).

A superb copy of this masterpiece by Dr. Jules Guyot, published in 1863, which is a report detailing viticultural practices in the south-west region of France. Original soft covers with some soiling to the covers. Slight nicking to the edges. The spine has been professionally restored. Internally in good condition, but with moderate foxing throughout. This report is addressed to His Excellency Mr. Rouher, Minister of Agriculture, Commerce and Public Works. The author presents an in-depth study of the vineyards of southwestern France, including recommendations for improving wine production and grape quality. It covers topics such as growing methods, types of grape varieties, climatic conditions and winemaking techniques. There are 89 engraved illustrations throughout the text. The boards are somewhat darkened, with bumping to the edges. Internally, the book is in good condition, with a touch of darkening only, and a little marking to the first couple of pages. viii, 104 pages. The first 12 pages are the poem in Latin. The rest of the book is notes and commentary / translation of it. An unusual gastronomy book. A glossary in French, English and Latin is given at the beginning of the work. To the dedication page, it is stated that this is the second edition, but in the forward, it makes it clear that this is a major revision of the first "Handbook of dining." and indeed, even the title is changed to reflect the different priorities. Other copies of this work are shown as 1865 second edition - so we are describing this as a 'first thus' Original blind stamped buckram, with slightly faded gilt titles to the spine. A little bumping to the head and tail of the spine. Clean and tidy throughout with fractional fading to the pages. Based upon Brillat-Savarin's work "physiologie du Gout" not so much a cookery book as a "brilliant treatise.... on gastronomy,,, in all its branches" (introduction). Original cream paper covers with titles to the front cover and an agricultural vignette to the rear cover. covers are darkened and a little marked with slight nicking to the edges. The spine is significantly lost, and has been repaired / glued at some point. Internally in sound, but slightly darkened condition. some pages have light foxing. This is a reworking of the "Traité de vinification" by the same author and published in 1849, and states here that it is revised and considerably augumented.
