Paris: L'Auteur, 1777. First edition. A very nice example of this tableau of france. It was originally published in two parts with the intention of giving a comparative size of towns compared to Paris. We offer the general map (there was also a city plan sheet). Backed onto deep blue linen, and held in a card slipcase with manuscript title. Engraved by P. Croisey. The map is set within an ornamental frame. The title appears at the top left in an ornamental cartouche bearing the King's coat of arms, decorated with a symbolic composition representing military power and trade. At the bottom left: Observations. Overall the map is in excellent condition, with 24 panels laid down onto linen. Two of the panels have pale blue staining from the backing linen. (this is lighter than the photographs would suggest, and is to the left of the panel / observations, so not over the map proper). Otherwise in clean, tidy original condition. The marbled paper over card slipcase is a little rubbed and cracked to the edges. Overall a very nice example of a rare map. 970 by 950mm (38¼ by 37½ inches). We can find no copies for sale at the time of cataloguing, and the only library holding is the BnF. FRBNF406140600000000. Conforms to WorldCat / OCLC: 494749651. (This for both sheets). Duchemin (1730–1811) was not a professional cartographer by trade but an engineer of the Ponts et Chaussées. He became ingénieur en chef in 1777, and later rose to Inspector General before retiring in 1802.

Nous proposons ici la carte générale (il existait également une feuille représentant le plan de la ville). Montée sur du lin bleu foncé, elle est conservée dans un étui en carton portant un titre manuscrit. Gravée par P. Croisey. La carte est enchâssée dans un cadre ornemental. Le titre figure en haut à gauche, dans un cartouche ornemental arborant les armoiries du roi, décoré d'une composition symbolique représentant la puissance militaire et le commerce. En bas à gauche : « Observations ». Dans l'ensemble, la carte est en excellent état, avec 24 panneaux montés sur toile. Deux des panneaux présentent des taches bleu pâle provenant de la toile de support. (Celles-ci sont plus claires que ne le laissent supposer les photographies, et se trouvent à gauche du panneau / des « Observations », donc pas sur la carte proprement dite). Pour le reste, elle est dans son état d'origine, propre et soigné. Le papier marbré recouvrant l'étui en carton est un peu frotté et fissuré sur les bords. Dans l'ensemble, un très bel exemplaire d'une carte rare. 970 × 950 mm (38¼ × 37½ pouces). Orléans: Intitution Jeanne-D'Arc, 1891. First edition. A pamphlet celebrating the establishment of the Institution Jeanne-D'Arc, which had previously been the Institution Carpentier (named after its founder). A school in Orléans, it was taken over in 1881 by the Vallée sisters on the death of the founder. Having requested permission to change the schools name, this was given, and the rebirth of the school happened in July 1891. This was part of the surge in popularity for Jeanne D'Arc, which began in the 1870's and by the 1890's was gaining much momentum, leading to her canonisation in 1909. The surge was, naturally, particularly strong in Orléans.This book celebrates this event, and contains several salutary essays and letters. Pink covers, with a small private library stamp to the top edge. Slightly darkened to the spine edge. Internally clean and tidy if slightly darkened. 24 pages. 21.5cm x 13.5cm. Première édition. Brochure célébrant la création de l'Institution Jeanne-d'Arc, anciennement l'Institution Carpentier (du nom de son fondateur). Située à Orléans, cette école fut reprise en 1881 par les sœurs Vallée à la mort de son fondateur. Après avoir demandé l'autorisation de changer le nom de l'établissement, celle-ci leur fut accordée, et la renaissance de l'école eut lieu en juillet 1891. Cela s'inscrivait dans le cadre de l'engouement pour Jeanne d'Arc, qui débuta dans les années 1870 et prit de l'ampleur dans les années 1890, aboutissant à sa canonisation en 1909. Cet engouement fut, naturellement, particulièrement fort à Orléans. Cet ouvrage célèbre cet événement et contient plusieurs essais et lettres édifiants. Paris: Le Petit Journal, 1912. First edition thus. A regular patriotic issue of le Petit Journal, this example by F.L/ Bombled is dated 1912 and shows the build up just before the first world war. It is a "corps d'armée" map: France divided by military regions/corps areas (numbered in Roman numerals), with garrison towns, government seats, and legends in red/black. It includes decorative inset maps (Paris region, Algeria/North Africa, Corsica) and a large colour illustration panel on the right showing French troops (cuirassiers, Zouaves/turcos in red pantalon garance, artillery with a cannon, cavalry officers etc.) beneath a dirigible airship and a biplane, gazing toward the German frontier ("Allemagne" is labeled on the map beneath the airship). The message is clear. The French are prepared for whatever the Germans can throw at them. 900 by 620mm (35½ by 24½ inches). Overall in very good, slightly darkened condition. A touch of light edgewear with tiny closed tears only. Some very slight holes where the map has been folded. A scarce item. Fortuné-Louis Bombled (1857–1935), a prolific French illustrator who worked extensively for Le Petit Journal and other illustrated periodicals, known for military, historical, and patriotic imagery.

Numéro patriotique classique du Petit Journal, cet exemplaire réalisé par F.L./Bombled est daté de 1912 et illustre le renforcement des effectifs juste avant la Première Guerre mondiale. Il s'agit d'une carte de « corps d'armée » : la France y est divisée en régions militaires/zones de corps d'armée (numérotées en chiffres romains), avec les villes de garnison, les sièges administratifs et les légendes en rouge et noir. Elle comprend des cartes décoratives en encart (région parisienne, Algérie/Afrique du Nord, Corse) ainsi qu'un grand panneau d'illustration en couleur à droite représentant des troupes françaises (cuirassiers, zouaves/turcos en pantalon garance rouge, artillerie avec un canon, officiers de cavalerie, etc.) sous un dirigeable et un biplan, le regard tourné vers la frontière allemande (la mention « Allemagne » figure sur la carte sous le dirigeable). Le message est clair. Les Français sont prêts à affronter tout ce que les Allemands peuvent leur opposer. 900 × 620 mm (35½ × 24½ pouces). Dans l'ensemble, en très bon état, légèrement foncé. Légères traces d'usure sur les bords avec de minuscules déchirures fermées uniquement. Quelques très légères perforations aux endroits où la carte a été pliée. Un objet rare. Fortuné-Louis Bombled (1857–1935), illustrateur français prolifique ayant beaucoup travaillé pour *Le Petit Journal* et d'autres périodiques illustrés, connu pour ses images militaires, historiques et patriotiques.

Paris: Devambez, 1910. First Edition of this promotional publication created for Quina-Laroche. Handsome copy. Full cardboard portfolio with smooth spine, illustrated front cover, chemise complete with its two ties. Work complete with its 10 colour lithographs depicting actresses praising the benefits of Quina-Laroche. This was a quinquina based tonic (containing quinine), marketed in Belle Époque France as a fortifying and invigorating drink, similar to other "vin quiné" or hygienic tonics of the period. Today the name is best known from high quality advertising pieces: illustrated booklets, brochures, and small albums featuring portraits of Parisian actresses and café concert stars. 16cm x 18cm. 18 pages + 10 lithographs in glassine cover. Première édition de cette publication promotionnelle réalisée pour Quina-Laroche. Bel exemplaire. Portefeuille en carton avec dos lisse, couverture illustrée, chemise complète avec ses deux liens. L'ouvrage est complet avec ses 10 lithographies en couleurs représentant des actrices vantant les bienfaits de Quina-Laroche. Il s'agissait d'un tonique à base de quinquina (contenant de la quinine), commercialisé en France à la Belle Époque comme une boisson fortifiante et revigorante, à l'instar d'autres « vins quinés » ou toniques hygiéniques de l'époque. Aujourd'hui, ce nom est surtout connu grâce à des supports publicitaires de grande qualité : livrets illustrés, brochures et petits albums présentant des portraits d'actrices parisiennes et de stars des cafés-concerts. 16 cm x 18 cm. 18 pages + 10 lithographies sous couverture en papier cristal.

A Taride, 1898. An attractive map of Paris, in two colours, intended for cyclists. engraved by A. Soldan and printed by Monrocq. The map is 88cm x 64cm. The map itself is in excellent condition, with a touch of creasing only. The cover is slightly marked, with a little splitting to the spine (now protected with archival tape). A scarce item, we have been unable to find a similar copy online or on WorldCat. An early and attractive map aimed at those engaged in the relatively new entertainment of cycling. Une jolie carte de Paris, en bicolore, destinée aux cyclistes. Gravée par A. Soldan et imprimée par Monrocq. La carte mesure 88 cm x 64 cm. La carte elle-même est en excellent état, avec seulement quelques légers plis. La couverture présente de légères traces d'usure, ainsi qu'une petite déchirure au niveau du dos (non réparée avec du ruban d'archivage). Il s'agit d'un article rare ; nous n'avons pas réussi à trouver d'exemplaire similaire en ligne ni sur WorldCat. Une carte ancienne et attrayante destinée à ceux qui s'adonnaient au cyclisme, un loisir relativement nouveau à l'époque.
