Geo London was the pseudonym of Parisian journalist Georges Samuel. He was a (often unpopular) court reporter for many important trials, even once meeting Al Capone, and wrote many works before his death in 1951. Première édition. Geo London était le pseudonyme du journaliste parisien Georges Samuel. Il était un sténographe judiciaire (souvent impopulaire) pour de nombreux procès importants, rencontrant même une fois Al Capone, et a écrit de nombreux ouvrages avant sa mort en 1951.

Paris Illustré, 1885. A steel engraving illustrating the descent of the world's first hydrogen balloon in Gonesse (Val-d'Oise). This appeared in a special edition of Paris illustré in 1885. Hand coloured. Framed in brown and gilt passe partout (unglazed). Plate dimensions 95 by 140 mm (3¾ x 5½ inches). Mount dimensions 220 x 255 mm (8¾ x 10 inches). The illustration is in excellent condition, with fine colouring. No damage to the illustration, or the frame. Une gravure sur acier illustrant la descente du premier ballon à hydrogène au monde à Gonesse (Val-d'Oise). Cela a paru dans une édition spéciale de Paris illustré en 1885. Colorié à la main. Covers have a little sun fading / toning, and the very tip of the two bottom corners has been lost. Otherwise the book is in a very good condition, both inside and out. 132 [2] pages. 235 x 160 mm (9¼ x 6¼ inches). Première édition. Couvertures souples originales, avec une belle décoration, et des illustrations de vignettes à l'intérieur par Theo Van Rysselberghe. Texte en Francais. Signed with a small doodle of a chained dog to the half title page. 122 pages. Full of colour and black and white images. Almost as new. 290 by 290 mm (11½ by 11½ inches).
Liekens is a Belgian artist, born in 1977, who lives and works between Antwerp and Berlin. Bel exemplaire de ce Catalogue raisonné de l'œuvre de Liekens. Couverture illustrée en couleur. Photographie Frontis de Liekens. Signé d'un petit griffonnage représentant un chien enchaîné sur la page de faux titre. 122 pages. Plein d'images en couleur et en noir et blanc. Liekens est un artiste belge, né en 1977, qui vit et travaille entre Anvers et Berlin.

Paris: Garnier Frères, 1867. Original red leather bindings, with decorations to front and gilt stamped title to spines. A beautiful hand-coloured lithographed frontispiece to each volume, and 50 hand-coloured lithographed plates and 2 uncoloured lithographic plates; also many b/w text illustrations. All edges gilt. Volume 1: 339 pages; Volume 2: 324 pages. Text in French. Boards are a little rubbed at the corners, and there are some faded ink blobs to both volumes. Internally, there is sporadic spotting, but none affecting the beauty of the plates. Overall, in a very good clean condition. The first gather to volume two is slightly protruding where it has started to split from the text block - but it is still holding firmly. 275 x 185 mm (10¾ x 7¼ inches). Front has a small label at the bottom left and small ink number to the top left. Inside front has small label from Lucien Bodin Librairie, Paris. Title page has neat ink name to top right, dated 1913. Light foxing throughout. Overall in an excellent condition. 91 pages. 210 x 135 mm (8¼ x 5¼ inches). The Edinburgh Review was one of the most influential British magazines of the 19th century. This translation was extracted from an article in issue CCII. Première édition. Couvertures en papier d'origine, désormais protégées par une pellicule de verre. Texte en français. Les couvertures avant et arrière sont toutes deux partiellement assombries. Le devant a une petite étiquette en bas à gauche et un petit numéro d'encre en haut à gauche. L'intérieur du devant a une petite étiquette de Lucien Bodin Librairie, Paris. Created in 1928, this tale of morality was Marcel Pagnol's first theatrical success. Full of colour illustrations by Albert Dubout. Text in French. Slipcase has some rubbing / fading to outer slipcase. Inside cover and book are in an excellent condition. 220 x 160 mm (8¾ x 6¼ inches). Un des 5000 exemplaires sur Vélin Crève-Cœur numérotés. Dans sa housse et son étui d'origine. Couverture souple en cristal. Créé en 1928, ce conte de moralité est le premier succès théâtral de Marcel Pagnol. Text in French. Undated, but circa 1920. Soft covers have edge wear, and are darkened. Internally the book is in a very good condition. 320 x 250 mm (12½ x 9¾ inches). Première édition. Paris: Jacques Haumont, 1942. First edition thus. Softback book, with text in French. Illustrations in colour are by Claude Garnier. Title in English: 'The Nutcracker and the Mouse King'. Originally by Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann, that was first published in 1816. The story is the tale of a special Christmas toy who comes to life at night! Covers are age toned, and are detached (as one piece) from the text block. All pages also aged, and some transference of colour to subsequent page from the illustrations. Overall in a good condition. 72 pages. 187 x 120 mm (7¼ x 4¾ inches). Première édition ainsi. Livre broché. Les illustrations en couleurs sont de Claude Garnier. À l'origine par Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann, qui a été publié pour la première fois en 1816. L'histoire est l'histoire d'un jouet de Noël spécial qui prend vie la nuit ! Les couvertures sont vieillies et détachées (en une seule pièce) du bloc de texte. An engraved poster welcoming the new year of 1896. A naked woman representing 1896 is at the helm of a boat, which has the debris of 1895 in its wake. Tipped onto white backing cardboard. Signed in the plate A. Willette. To the bottom right is 'Phg V. Michel'. The debris of 1895 includes the words 'Panama' and 'Arton'. These appear to relate to Émile Arton, a Jewish financier who was arrested in November 1895 for his part in financing in the Panama crisis. Adolph Willette was strongly anti-Semitic.
Poster is clean and tidy with no significant marks. Black and white. Overall in Very Good condition. Poster size: 610 x 460 mm (24 x 18 inches).

Adolphe Léon Willette (1857–1926) was a French painter, illustrator, caricaturist, and lithographer, as well as an architect of the famous Moulin Rouge cabaret. Willette ran as an "anti-Semitic" candidate in the 9th arrondissement of Paris for the September 1889 legislative elections. Rare. Une affiche gravée accueillant le nouvel an 1896. Une femme nue représentant 1896 est à la barre d'un bateau, qui a dans son sillage les débris de 1895. Renversé sur carton blanc. Signé dans la planche A. Willette. En bas à droite se trouve 'Phg V. Michel'. Les débris de 1895 comprennent les mots « Panama » et « Arton ». Celles-ci semblent concerner Émile Arton, un financier juif arrêté en novembre 1895 pour son rôle dans le financement de la crise de Panama. Adolph Willette était fortement antisémite.
L'affiche est propre et bien rangée, sans marques importantes. Noir et blanc. Dans l'ensemble en très bon état. Taille de l'affiche : 610 x 460 mm (24 x 18 pouces).

Paris: Programme for one of the performances of l'École Nationale du Cirque in 1978. Featured artists include: contortionist Maria Negrea, acrobat Yves Oger, and of course Annie Fratellini herself. In the late 1970's, the French government had stepped in to try to help the ailing circus industry, and Annie Fratellini and Pierre Étaix had opened the l'École Nationale du Cirque. Booklet covers and contents are in a very good condition. 12 pages. 215 x 150 mm (8½ x 6 inches). Programme d'une des représentations de l'École Nationale du Cirque en 1978. Parmi les artistes à l'affiche : la contorsionniste Maria Negrea, l'acrobate Yves Oger et bien sûr Annie Fratellini elle-même. Paris: Gaumont, 1981. Printed brochure, (limited to 2,000 copies) includes a story board for the film (released 1964), a poem, a caricature of Jean-Claude Carriere drawn by Étaix, some transcripts of letters written by Étaix to be featured in another publication entitled 'Dactylographismes', and an advertisement for the forthcoming book 'Le carton à chapeaux'. This brochure contains includes a signed dedication from Étaix. Pierre Étaix was a French clown, comedian and filmmaker, who made a series of short and feature-length films, many of which were co-written by the screenwriter Jean-Claude Carrière. Covers are a little grubby. There is a small closed tear to the tail of the spine. Internally the brochure is spotless. 52 pages. 290 x 200 mm (11½ x 7¾ inches). The ten articles collected here were originally published in the French newspaper 'Le Journal', when SEM worked as their war correspondent during WW1. SEM's real name was Georges Goursat (1863 - 1934). Première édition. A été relié en toile brune, avec titre estampé doré au dos. Papier d'origine du dos, collé à l'intérieur du premier plat. Entièrement illustré de 150 dessins n/b. Pas de jaquette. Les pages brutes sont vieillies / teintées, mais dans l'ensemble dans un bon à très bon état. 247 pages. 210 x 160 mm (8¼ x 6¼ pouces). Les dix articles rassemblés ici ont été initialement publiés dans le journal français « Le Journal », lorsque le SEM travaillait comme correspondant de guerre pendant la Première Guerre mondiale. Le vrai nom de SEM était Georges Goursat (1863 - 1934).

Bruxelles: Isy Brachot Fils, 1950. Beautiful copy of this numbered limited comic approach to the French Penal Code. This is one of only 50 copies which are on papier annam de Rives. The book comes with a full suite of the illustrations in colour, and a second suite in black and white. This should also come with an original watercolour - but this is not present. Orange / red slipcase, with a little rubbing but no major damage. cream faux vellum folder containing the soft covered book and 2 suites. The wrapper of the book is covered in glassine. There is a small hole in the glassine (presumably where a sticker has been removed). Otherwise immaculate. The text itself is loose in gathers, with Dratz's colour illustrations throughout. 243 [iii], pp. 270 by 235mm (10¾ by 9¼ inches). Bel exemplaire de cette BD numérotée et limitée d'approche du Code Pénal français. C'est l'un des 50 exemplaires seulement sur papier annam de Rives. Le livre est accompagné d'une suite complète d'illustrations en couleurs et d'une seconde suite en noir et blanc. Cela devrait également être accompagné d'une aquarelle originale - mais celle-ci n'est pas présente. Etui orange/rouge, avec un peu de frottement mais pas de gros dégâts. Chemise en faux vélin crème contenant le livre à couverture souple et 2 suites. La couverture du livre est recouverte de glassine. Il y a un petit trou dans la glassine (probablement là où un autocollant a été retiré). Sinon impeccable. Le texte lui-même est lâche dans les fronces, avec les illustrations en couleur de Dratz partout. 243 [iii], p. 270 par 235 mm

Paris: Editions Azur, Claude Offenstadt, 1968. Grey card slipcase, illustrated glossy boards, back is green cloth, red end papers, 164, (1) pages. Impressive work printed with characters changing according to the subjects, illustrated with drawings which, sometimes, by the profusion of the characters, are reminiscent of DUBOUT, and are other cubist artists, mostly out of text and sometimes on double or triple page. Nice copy. Very good condition slipcase with a little wear only. Book itself is in fine condition. 355 x 255 mm (14 x 10 inches)
Vasquez de Sola, escaping Franco's jails, relates here the struggle he had to wage to safeguard his human dignity. He was one of the draughtsmen of Le Canard Enchaîné in the 1970s. He returned to Spain after the death of Franco. Etui cartonné gris, cartons glacés illustrés, dos toile verte, gardes rouges, 164, (1) pages. Impressionnant ouvrage imprimé avec des personnages changeant selon les sujets, illustré de dessins qui, parfois, par la profusion des personnages, font penser à DUBOUT, et sont d'autres artistes cubistes, le plus souvent hors texte et parfois sur double ou triple page. Bel exemplaire. Etui en très bon état avec un peu d'usure seulement. Le livre lui-même est en bon état. 355 x 255 mm (14 x 10 pouces)
Vasquez de Sola, échappé des geôles de Franco, raconte ici le combat qu'il a dû mener pour sauvegarder sa dignité humaine. Il fut l'un des dessinateurs du Canard Enchaîné dans les années 1970. Il retourne en Espagne après la mort de Franco.
