These are comprised of 18 Aquatint engravings and 11 hand coloured pictures of traditional Dutch peasant costumes. The binding is in period red leather, with gilt title and decoration. 210 by 140mm (8¼ by 5½ inches).

    Condition: The binding is in very nice, if slightly rubbed condition. The plates are in excellent condition, many with tissue guards, and in a clean and tidy state.

With 16 full-page colour illustrations of Canadian G.I.s during the days of liberation, expertly observed by the artist Jan Nieuwenhuys. Introduction by Edward Startz of the Dutch Overseas Broadcasting Station is written in English. He describes the book as ' a Cavalcade of Canadians in the Netherlands'. 30 pages. 270 x 205 mm (10¾ x 8 inches). Jan Nieuwenhuys was one of the early active founders of the Dutch Experimentalists group that later became part of CoBrA. At the time of this book being published he was just 23 years old, and is referred to in the introduction as 'young and promising'!

    Condition: Covers are a little browned at the edges and there are spots of foxing. Inside the book is in a very good, fresh and clean condition.

La limitation se lit comme suit : « cette édition a été imprimée à quatre-vingt-dix-neuf exemplaires. Les cinq premières comprennent une série d'eaux-fortes sur nacre japonaise et les plaques rejetées ; les vingt-cinq suivantes comportent la suite des eaux-fortes sur nacre du Japon. De plus, vingt exemplaires numérotés en chiffres romains ont été tirés. » Celui-ci contient en effet une suite supplémentaire de 47 gravures (imprimées sur vélin BFK Rives, pas sur nacre japonaise). Il y a une notice sur le dépliant publicitaire, qui précise que les 20 exemplaires numérotés en chiffres romains, signés par l'artiste, sont composés des différents autres états. Cette copie en fait partie. Étui et dossier rigide. Couverture souple sur les fronces lâches. Titre rouge au dos de l'étui. Un dépliant publicitaire / dépliant de pré-publication est également joint, imprimé sur Rives. 102 pages + 47 eaux-fortes dans la suite annexe. L'étui et le dossier sont sains, mais avec un petit marquage sur les parties crème. Le papier est en très bon état, avec quelques rousseurs. All in excellent condition, with just a touch of ghosting from some of the engravings. Probably the nicest copy you could find. Belle édition du Discours de la méthode de Descartes. D'abord donc. D'une édition de seulement 400 (il y avait également 20 exemplaires réservés pour les collaborateurs). Cet exemplaire est imprimé sur vélin d'Arches. 26 gravures originales sur cuivre de CP Josso, dont un frontispice, un titre gravé, 6 gravures à pleine page, 12 vignettes et 6 pièces de fin (une pour chacune des six parties qui composent l'ouvrage). Étui vert pâle, avec un dossier vert pâle assorti à l'intérieur. Cela a une étiquette en papier à la colonne vertébrale. (c'est un peu noirci).     Condition: The binding is holding firmly and is in good condition, it is very slightly loose to the binding only. Some general wear to surface / extremities from handling, corners bumped/creased throughout. Contents are holding firmly and are generally in good clean condition if toned, with some light scattered foxing, browning/ dust marking to edges though nothing too disfiguring. A decent copy overall retaining period plain end papers, with C18th bookplate of William Parsons.
