It is unclear which edition these are from, but they are from either the 1729 edition publised by J. Cóvens en C. Mortier, or more likely from the 1747 edition published by Houttuyn. Most of the plates are in excellent condition, but there is a touch of edgewear to a couple. Creasing to one plate. Crease to the fold of each plate. The captions to each plate are printed in Each plate is 510 x 410 mm (20 x 16¼ inches).

On ne sait pas de quelle édition ils proviennent, mais ils proviennent soit de l'édition de 1729 publiée par J. Cóvens en C. Mortier, soit plus probablement de l'édition de 1747 publiée par Houttuyn. La plupart des assiettes sont en excellent état, mais il y a une touche d'usure des bords à un couple. Pliage à une assiette. Pli au pli de chaque assiette. Les légendes de chaque plaque sont imprimées en Chaque plaque mesure 510 x 410 mm (20 x 16¼ pouces).

Both book and slipcase are clean and tidy with no significant flaws. Aloys Zötl was an Austrian painter. He was relatively unknown until his work was "re-discovered" by surrealist André Breton who was taken by the surrealist aesthetic he saw present in the images - as he writes: "Lacking any biographical details about the artist, one can only indulge one's fantasies in imagining the reasons which might have induced this workman from Upper Austria, a dyer by profession, to undertake so zealously between 1832 and 1887 the elaboration of the most sumptuous…
