In very good condition, with a very small loss to left edge, and some minor soiling. Blank to verso. A zograscope is an optical device for magnifying flat images, as the shape of the lens enhanced the sense of the depth shown in the picture. The precursor to 3D images! Norimbergæ [Nürnberg]: Jo. Baptist Homann, 1716. Copper engraving by Johann Baptist Homann, with contemporary hand colouring. The cartouche has a scene of Gods watching the fighting on a battlefield. The map covers the Dauphiné in southeastern France. In the west is the Rhône, and in the east Piemont in Italy. 505 x 580 mm (20 x 22¾ inches). One central fold. The colours are strong and edges are a little delicate. Blank verso. Gravure sur cuivre de Johann Baptist Homann, avec coloration à la main contemporaine. Le cartouche a une scène de dieux regardant les combats sur un champ de bataille. La carte couvre le Dauphiné dans le sud-est de la France. A l'ouest se trouve le Rhône, et à l'est le Piémont en Italie. 505 x 580 mm (20 x 22¾ pouces). Un pli central. Les couleurs sont fortes et les bords sont un peu délicats. Verso vierge.

London: Thomas Bowles, 1720. Copper engraving by Emanuel Bowen published in the pocket road book 'Britannia Depicta' by Thomas Bowles from 1720. This was the first truly pocket sized road book for the traveller based on the surveys of John Ogilby published in large folio format 45 years earlier in 1675.
The plates were printed on both sides of the paper, reducing the weight of the volume which required considerable organisation for the process of copperplate printing as the ink required an extensive drying-off period. The notes by John Owen were engraved by Emanuel Bowen on the copperplate surrounding the road maps and also on separate plates. The maps have become commonly known as "Owen & Bowen" maps. The map is set below a decorative cartouche containing the title for the road from London to Bristol with the final part of the road from London to Berwick verso.

Plates are dated 1825 - 1827. The binding is somewhat rubbed, but still holding well. The pages are in very nice, clean condition, with just a touch of marking. The colouring is clean and bright. A number of the plates have been reinforced to the spine with archival tape. The pages themselves are in good condition. There is about an inch missing to the base of the spine. Still holding well though. [xii], [ii], 36 double plates with blank versos. 570 x 390 mm (22½ x 15¼ inches). Demi-veau d'origine, à plats marbrés. Faux-titre, titre avec petite vignette. Un certain nombre de planches ont été renforcées jusqu'au dos avec du ruban adhésif d'archives. Les pages elles-mêmes sont en bon état. Il manque environ un pouce à la base de la colonne vertébrale. Pieter van der AA, 1713. Copper engraving, published in 1714 in Leiden by Pieter van der Aa Top left, title in a cartouche with the arms of the kingdom, illustrated with a hunting scene. A nice hand coloured map. Trimmed closely to the edge. A touch of foxing / marking, but not bad. Colours have faded a little. The map is page 19 of the Atlas Le nouveau théâtre du monde ou la géographie royale, published 1713. 230 x 300 mm (9 x 11¾ inches). Pierre van der Aa, together with various Dutch, French, and German cartographers, is recognized for having reproduced maps of Ireland based upon William Petty's Hiberniae Delineatio of 1685, acknowledged as the first comprehensive atlas of Ireland. Petty's original map had been engraved in Amsterdam in 1673 (Tooley, p. 93). This map depicts not only Ireland but also portions of England, Wales, and Scotland, along with the islands of Man and Anglesey. Van der Aa (1659–1733) was a distinguished Dutch publisher of maps and atlases who engaged leading engravers of his time to produce works of superior technical execution and aesthetic refinement. The map is showing two areas - Upper Guinea and the Congo is two thirds of the image - inset is Madagascar and part of what is now Mozambique. Text to both sides (in French). Fold to the middle of the map, where bound into his Geographie. There is no statement of edition on this map, but it conforms exactly to the 1787 pages in the Stanford University Collection. Verso blank. Map is 12^1/2" x 14^1/2" Engraved block is 12^1/2" x 22" Sheet is 15" x 22^1/2" The map is in good condition. There is a little foxing to the map, particularly to the centre fold. Amsterdam: Hondius, Jodocus, 1610. A hand coloured composite map of Anglesey, the Isle of Wight, and the Channel Islands of Jersey and Guernsey. Circa 1610. Latin text to the verso "Anglia". This is from the Hondius printing. Double glazed and framed in a black and gilt frame. The two pages of Latin text are visible through the rear glazed panel. Very nice condition. There is a touch of darkening to the page, but very light. The crease to the centre of the page has been reinforced to the verso. The text pages are also clean and tidy. Signed in the plate ' Per Gerardum Mercatorem Cum Privilegio ' prior to his death in 1594. Hondius took over the plates from Mercator's grandson, and re-published his Atlas. 320 x 420 mm (12½ by 16½ inches).
Gerard Mercator was one of the greatest map makers ever known. He started his career as a professional instrument maker after finishing a masters degree at Louvain University and studying advanced mathematics. By the 1560's he was developing a new form of navigational projection. Rumold Mercator was his son.

London: Bowles & Rivington: 1724. A glazed and framed hand coloured map of South Wales. As well as the map, there are architectural details to the left side of the map. To the right are two fossils. Framed in light and dark green mounting board, and a green and gilt wooden frame. Overall in very clean and tidy condition. The original map fold is visible to the centre but is very light. There is a small repaired tear to the top right inch of the map - not affecting any detail. 200 x 320 mm (7¾ x 12½ inches).
Moll was a cartographer who moved to England in 1678 and opened a book and map store in London. He produced a variety of maps, most of which asserted British sovereignty over Empire and the New World.
