Clean and bright orange and white dust wrapper. A touch of darkening and a few small chips to the bottom edge. Overall though, a very nice example of the scarce wrapper. The book itself is blue cloth with gilt titles. Printed in conformity with the wartime economy standards, but despite this is only slightly darkened. 200 pages. 19.5cm x 13cm.
Dexter Foothood is Marlow's semi-autobiographical character. Louis Marlow was the pseudonym of Louis Umfreville Wilkinson (1881–1966), a British author, lecturer, and biographer. Wilkinson had a notable literary career, associating with prominent figures such as the Powys brothers, Somerset Maugham, and Aleister Crowley. Première édition. London: The Bodley Head, 1972. A nice copy of the First Thus (English edition, with Sendak's illustrations). The dust wrapper is sound, but is slightly faded, and has a couple of small nicks to the edges of the wrapper. An old price is written to the front cover and a couple of small marks to the rear cover. The book is an attractive blue cloth with silver printed decoration. Internally clean and tidy throughout, with attractive black and white illustrations by Sendak. 110 pages. 19cm x 12.5cm.

Paris: la Librairie de France, 1931. First edition. A limited edition of only 125 copies in total (including 5 H.C.) this is one of only 20 copies printed on Japon, with an additional suite of images and in a slipcase. Two stiff paper / card folders. These are cream with a little darkening / marking to the spines. The first volume is the text with integral illustration. The second is the additional suite. The text folder is protected with glassine. This is a little marked and has a couple of chips. To the spine of the glassine are two small hand made label stickers with the titles. (home made not produced by the author). The slipcase is in darkened but good, strong condition. Inside, both volumes are in beautifully clean condition. The Japon paper has remained bright and without marking or foxing. The illustrations have tissue guards to them. The numbered colophon is to the end of the text volume. The suite perhaps lacks two plates, as there are 32 plates in the suite. Each corresponds to an image in the book. However, there is an image of a tree with a large spider, and another with a hedgehog and lizard fighting. Both are in the book but NOT the suite. There are 34 engravings in the book. Some other copies online state 33 engravings (within the book) presumably not counting the frontis vignette - which IS in the suite. The only other copy available with a suite doesn't mention a collation / number of plates in the suite, so we are a little confused ! Nevertheless a nice collection of engravings within the book and an attractive suite of 32 plates. We do not promise completeness. 68 unnumbered pages. 29cm x 21cm. A l'intérieur, les deux volumes sont en parfait état de propreté. Le papier Japon est resté brillant et sans marque ni rousseur. Les illustrations sont accompagnées de protège-tissu. Le colophon numéroté se trouve à la fin du volume de texte. Il manque peut-être deux planches à la suite, qui en compte 32. Chacune correspond à une image dans le livre. Cependant, il y a une image d'un arbre avec une grande araignée, et une autre avec un hérisson et un lézard qui se battent. Ces deux images figurent dans le livre, mais PAS dans la suite. Il y a 34 gravures dans le livre. D'autres exemplaires en ligne indiquent 33 gravures (dans le livre), probablement sans compter la vignette du frontispice - qui fait partie de la suite. Le seul autre exemplaire disponible avec une suite ne mentionne pas de collation / nombre de planches dans la suite, nous sommes donc un peu perdus ! Néanmoins, il s'agit d'une belle collection de gravures dans le livre et d'une suite attrayante de 32 planches. Nous ne promettons pas l'exhaustivité. 68 pages non numérotées. 29cm x 21cm. Original pale green soft covers with attractive art nouveau decoration and detailing. Clean, with a little darkening to the covers. Small spot to the bottom of the front cover. Pages of the book are a little darkened and with light foxing. Otherwise in excellent condition. 340 pages. 18.5cm x 12cm. André Doderet (1879-1949) was a french author. We believe this to be Doderet's first published work - conforms to FRBNF30345386, and WorldCat / OCLC: 457887175 (although both state publisher is D. Tassel). Jules Renard was a French author (1864 - 1910). He is best known for his novel Poil de carotte (1894), an ironic and autobiographical account of his unhappy childhood marked by lack of affection. Despite a difficult childhood, he was happily married and had two children. Renard was a founder member of the literary publication Mercure de France in 1889.

Gilt embossed titles to front board and spine. A little marking to the boards, but overall in very good condition. Printed by the Mayflower Press, Plymouth, on high quality bond paper. In good, clean condition internally. 112 pages. 20.5cm x 14cm. James Laver (1899–1975) was a British poet, novelist, playwright, art critic, and a highly influential historian of costume and fashion. Though Laver is now primarily remembered for his pioneering work in the history of fashion and his role as Keeper of Prints, Drawings and Paintings at the Victoria and Albert Museum, his poetry and fiction were well regarded in his time, and he was considered a master of light verse.

Gilt title and decoration to front board.Cloth at spine has started to split and appears to have been neatly repaired. Some foxing internally but overall in good condition. William Fryer Harvey (1885–1937), was an English writer renowned for his short stories in the macabre, horror, and mystery genres. Born into a wealthy Quaker family in Leeds, Yorkshire (UK) where he was educated at Quaker schools and Balliol College, Oxford. Fryer Harvey would later earned a medical degree from Leeds, but due to ill health was prevented from practising medicine fully, leading him to focus on writing. 243 pages. 180 x 125 mm (7 x 5 inches).
