The book and dust wrapper are both almost as new, with just a fractional handling. No significant marks or wear. Perhaps our imagination, but the dust wrapper and matching boards seem to have a much darker, golden tone than the US edition. Although the introduction and other text is in French - this hardly matters, as this book is all about the photography. Köln: Du Mont Schauberg / Deutscher Bücherbund, 1960. A nice copy of this stylish photobook. Hardback boards illustrated by a Picasso illustration. These are a little darkened and with slight splitting to the spine, but still attractive. The text pages, in French and german, are somewhat darkened to the edges. There is a Picasso title page which is either stuck neatly to the edge of he colophon page or is in a French fold. We are unsure which, but there is not text within the pages. Introduction by Jean Cocteau. After the introductory pages are 62 full page photographs on glossy photographic paper. These in excellent condition. All in all, a decent copy. This edition published for the members of the Deutscher Bucherbund. First edition thus. 325 x 245 mm (12¾ x 9¾ inches).

. Un bel exemplaire de cet élégant livre de photos. Plaques cartonnées illustrées d'une illustration de Picasso. Elles sont un peu assombries et le dos est légèrement fendu, mais elles restent attrayantes. Les pages de texte, en français et en allemand, sont quelque peu assombries sur les bords. Il y a une page de titre de Picasso qui est soit collée proprement au bord de la page de colophon, soit dans un pli français. Nous ne savons pas laquelle, mais il n'y a pas de texte dans les pages. Introduction de Jean Cocteau. Après les pages d'introduction se trouvent 62 photographies pleine page sur papier photographique brillant. Celles-ci sont en excellent état. Magnum / Abbas Photos Association, 2020. A Magnum square print, by Abbas Attar, better known by his mononym Abbas. Abbas was an Iranian photographer known for his photojournalism. This particular image came to symbolise apartheid in South Africa to audiences across the world. It shows a white colonel from the black police academy in his uniform with his trainees behind him. The trainees are lined up behind him in rows, wearing nothing but shorts and plimsols. Each year Magnum produce a limited run of photographs in this square print format. They are limited not by number, but by the length of time they are on sale. Photo in perfect condition. 150 x 150 mm (6 x 6 inches).

A note on the verso says: In 1999, I met the director of this police academy again, this time in the B&B he ran with his family in Stellenbosch. A television channel had sought him out for a program on the photos that marked our time. It was not the uniform-and-stick Colonel that I found, it was the retired police general Stephanus Jacobus Malan. "This picture was taken from my South Africa story, originally published in 1978 by newspapers and magazines around the world; it became one of the symbols of apartheid. A photographer friend informed me later that someone from the South African Embassy in Paris told him that this photo did them more harm than an armed division of enemies. It's the greatest compliment a photographer can receive. Police academy. Hamanskraal, South Africa. 1978. The man whose face had become, over the years, and defiantly, an icon of apartheid, was an affable, courteous man with exquisite hospitality. What was the moral responsibility of the photographer? I had not photographed the man in 1978, but the uniform that personified the apartheid regime." From the photographer's own notes.

Illustrated in black and white throughout. no significant marks to the magazine - a slight curling of the front cover. The first half of the magazine is 7 articles on the Sadism of Cinema, the second half is 9 articles on new French cinema. 96 pages. 240 by 150mm (9½ by 6 inches). Un excellent exemplaire de ce magazine de cinéma français. Couverture souple brillante avec photographie en noir et blanc. Illustré en noir et blanc partout. pas de marques importantes sur le magazine - un léger enroulement de la couverture avant. La première moitié du magazine c'est 7 articles sur le sadisme du cinéma, la seconde moitié c'est 9 articles sur le nouveau cinéma français. 96 pages. 240 par 150 mm (9½ par 6 pouces).

Essen: Industriedruck AG, 1957. Cream softback covers. With a b/w frontis portrait of Burchartz, and 14 charming tipped-in samples of design - some in colour. Text in German. Inserted is a printed card which is signed in ink by Hermann Schardt. The card explains that the book is a gift to celebrate Max Burchartz's 70th birthday. The covers are slightly soiled and darkened in some areas. There is some wear to the head of the spine, and a taped reference number to the tail of the spine. Unpaginated. 295 x 170 mm (11½ x 6¾ inches).
Max Burchartz was a well-known professor of typography at the famous art academy. Burchartz is considered one of the most important designers of the modern age; among other things, he created the design of the modern door handle. With 3 short texts by H. Schard, J. Lampe and J. Gebser.

Antipodes: 1900. - Two albumen prints - mounted on the recto and verso of an oblong of grey card. One side showing The Gap and South Head at Watsons Bay in the eastern suburbs of Sydney, Australia (circa 1903); and on the other side a view of the town of Hobart, Tasmania (from Lansdowne Crescent) taken by John Watt Beattie.
- Two collodion paper prints showing the harbour of Lyttelton, New Zealand by an unknown photographer, and a landscape view across the Bealey near Christchurch, New Zealand taken by E. Wheeler & Son - these also mounted on the recto and verso of an oblong of grey card.
- One unmounted collodion paper print is of the Waimangu Geyser, which is located near Rotorua, New Zealand. This says JM2070 on the front - and possibly refers to the James Ingram McDonald (the painter, photographer, filmmaker, museum director, cultural ambassador, film censor, and promoter of Maori arts and crafts) and may have been taken whilst he was employed by the New Zealand Government Tourist Department in the early 20th Century. The geyser was known to erupt on a cycle of around 36 hours and would reach heights of up to 450 metres. Written on the verso of the photograph it reads: "The column of steam is about 1200 feet high". This geyser stopped erupting in 1904.

Paris: Jean Paul Caboche, 1991. A lovely black and white photograph of a fashion shoot for Guy Laroche Haute-Couture. Original photograph held under passe partout. Model (anonymous) in a gabardine jacket and felt hat. To the verso, the credits show that this is from the Guy Laroche Autumn / Winter collection. Photograph in as new condition, held under stiff passe partout with thin card backing board. Photograph is in practically as new condition. Passe partout is clean and neat, with a touch of edge tape only. Photograph dimensions 29.5cm x 21cm. Passe partout is 45cm x 36cm. It is perhaps symptomatic of the fashion industry that although the hair stylist and make up artist are both credited, the model herself is not names. Laroche (1921-1989) was one of the first designers to introduce separates (ie. jacket and trousers). His company continues today.

Photographie en état neuf, maintenue sous un passe partout rigide avec un support cartonné fin. La photographie est pratiquement à l'état neuf. Le passe-partout est propre et net, avec seulement un peu de ruban adhésif sur les bords. Les dimensions de la photographie sont de 29,5 cm x 21 cm. Le passe-partout mesure 45 cm x 36 cm. Il est peut-être symptomatique de l'industrie de la mode que, bien que le coiffeur et le maquilleur soient tous deux mentionnés, le mannequin lui-même n'est pas nommé. Laroche (1921-1989) a été l'un des premiers créateurs à introduire des vêtements séparés (c'est-à-dire une veste et un pantalon). Sa société existe encore aujourd'hui.

Paris: RVB Books, 2017. First Edition. Soft cover, in silver photographic paper jacket. Features newspaper archive of 106 b/w photographs, and text in English, both by Timothy Prus. There is a loosely inserted French translation for each photo caption. This book was the result of the purchase of the newspaper archives of the city of Luton, England. A vast source of material, from which Timothy Prus selected a series of images to create a surrealist story line. Prus had been interested in amateur photography / found images long before this became accepted in most of contemporary art. The book is in a near fine condition, and appears almost unread. 112 pages. 185 x 130 mm (7¼ x 5 inches).

This also includes swatches of the fabric of both the blue and yellow umbrellas. Text in English and Japanese. Slipcase has photographs of blue umbrellas to one side, and yellow to the other. A touch of rubbing only to the slipcase. Two volumes bound in a creamy cloth. Fractional rubbing only. Internally clean and tidy throughout. thousands of black and white and colour photographic illustrations, maps, charts and sketches - some folding plates. Large heavy set (10kg). 300 by 275mm (11¾ by 10¾ inches).

Paris: Peeters Portraits, 1955. Three large silver gelatin photographs (23.5cm x 17.5cm) each signed in white ink by the photographer Harcourt. These are mounted under passe partout and tipped onto the front of folding card. The three images are of a young girl's First Holy Communion, and she is pictured in suitably angelic poses! The three are held in a photography company's cream card folder embossed with "Peeters Portraits Paris" to the front cover. These are possibly produced with a "professional" model as samples of the work that Peeters portraits can produce for customers. Photographs in as new condition. The cream fold has a touch of darkening and a tiny amount of splitting to the bottom edge of the spine. Folder size 38.5cm x 28.5cm

. Trois grandes photographies à la gélatine argentique (23,5 cm x 17,5 cm), chacune signée à l'encre blanche par le photographe Harcourt. Elles sont montées sous passe partout et collées au recto d'une carte dépliante. Les trois images représentent la première communion d'une jeune fille, et elle est représentée dans des poses angéliques appropriées ! Les trois images sont placées dans une pochette en carton crème d'une société de photographie, portant l'inscription "Peeters Portraits Paris" sur la page de garde. Il est possible que ces photos aient été produites avec un modèle "professionnel" comme échantillons du travail que Peeters Portraits peut produire pour ses clients. Les photographies sont en parfait état. Le pli crème présente un léger assombrissement et une toute petite fente sur le bord inférieur du dos. Taille du dossier : 38,5 cm x 28,5 cm.

#2707 - Zell am See und Kitzsteinhorn. An attractive photograph of the lake with the mountain in the distance. The Kitzsteinhorn is a mountain peak in Salzburg in the Austrian Central Alps with an elevation of 3203 meters. Tidy copy, with a touch of creasing and one small closed tear to the edge. C1890. 230 by 283mm

#2895 - Kaprunerthal, Mooserboden. The reservoir (Mooserboden) with the Kaprun peaks in the distance. Kaprun is a town southwest of Salzburg in the Austrian Alps. It sits at the foot of the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier. Nice photograph with a few small closed tears to the edges (now repaired). 230 by 283mm
