N/A. This album is a marvellous snapshot of London in 1968. Although anonymous, we are convinced that it is by a professional photographer, as the quality of images, the selection and framing of subjects and the variety of print sizes all speak to a professional eye. Green hardback buckram photograph album, with a simple leather and gilt label to the spine stating "London 1968." Inside is a wonderful unpublished collection of 78 photographs in immaculate condition. From Street urchins to shop mannequins. From bearded buskers to Old ladies feeding pigeons. The pictures capture the wealth and modernity of the West End, but also the deprivation of the East End. The classical architecture of churches, and the vitality of the Portobello market. There is a nod to the newer arrivals in London, with some Greek children and Indian nuns. St Paul's is under scaffolding, The Charge of the Light Brigade is at the Odeon, Fantasia at Studio Two, and it is Guinness Time in Piccadilly Square. With shop windows in the West and broken windows in the East. All in all, this is probably the best photo album we have had. The photographs are beautifully laid out on the stiff card pages, with good margins. Simple and elegant. Album size is 33.5cm x 26cm. First edition.

Alongside these images, and providing a deeper understanding of his working method, are many previously unpublished contact prints and variations of familiar shots taken from a different angle, differently framed, or as part of a sequence that constitutes a veritable short story on film. Beyond these, there are examples of Brassai's nude studies and magnifications of commonplace objects, the engraved photographic plates that he called transmutations, his drawings and sculpted pebbles, the graffiti he found so fascinating - indeed, everything to which he turned his imaginative mind throughout a long, productive life. 319 pages. 310 x 250 mm (12¼ x 9¾ inches).

There is a Picasso title page which is either stuck neatly to the edge of he colophon page or is in a French fold. We are unsure which, but there is not text within the pages. . Introduction de Jean Cocteau. 325 x 245 mm

Overall an excellent example of this rare photograph. Franz Seraph Hanfstaengl (1804–1877) was a Bavarian painter, lithographer, and photographer. After some time producing lithographic reproductions of art works, he also opened a photographic studio in Munich in 1853. Although this image is undated, it is around 1860. He produced a well known series of photographs of eminent citizens.

    Playboy

Paris: E.P.A. Hachette, 2005. First Edition thus (French edition). A retrospective of Helmut Newton's work, showing his theatrical / cinematic approach to portraiture. The book and dust wrapper are both almost as new, with just a fractional handling. No significant marks or wear. Perhaps our imagination, but the dust wrapper and matching boards seem to have a much darker, golden tone than the US edition. Although the introduction and other text is in French - this hardly matters, as this book is all about the photography. Contents include Motels - Spring summer fashion - Kinski revealed - Living dolls - Prussian guard - At your service - The angels - Young and old - The Newton girls - Living…

176 pages. 310 x 240 mm
