Babaghuri designer Jurgen Lehl has created this photo book of colour images taken on Ishigaki Island in Japan's Okinawa Prefecture. Most are flip-flops or parts of them in various stages of degradation. Edited and designed by Hideaki Matsuura. The book is in a fine condition. 210 x 150 mm (8¼ x 6 inches).

There is a loosely inserted French translation for each photo caption. This book was the result of the purchase of the newspaper archives of the city of Luton, England. A vast source of material, from which Timothy Prus selected a series of images to create a surrealist story line. Prus had been interested in amateur photography / found images long before this became accepted in most of contemporary art. The book is in a near fine condition, and appears almost unread. 112 pages. 185 x 130 mm (7¼ x 5 inches).

Munchen: 1860. A very nice copy of this albumen print by Franz Hanfstaengl, which reproduces a fresco present in the Prussian State Gallery of the Imperial Palace. The original painting was by Hermann Wislicenus. The photograph size is 19cm x 25cm. The backing card (with printed publication details) is 35.5 x 45.cm. The photographg is in excellent condition, with good quality, sepia tones. The backing card is sound, but has some darkening, and has a little edgewear to it. Slight foxing to the rear of the board. Overall an excellent example of this rare photograph. Franz Seraph Hanfstaengl (1804–1877) was a Bavarian painter, lithographer, and photographer. After some time producing lithographic reproductions of art works, he also opened a photographic studio in Munich in 1853. Although this image is undated, it is around 1860. He produced a well known series of photographs of eminent citizens.

Franz Seraph Hanfstaengl (1804-1877) était un peintre, lithographe et photographe bavarois. Après avoir produit des reproductions lithographiques d'œuvres d'art, il a également ouvert un studio de photographie à Munich en 1853. Bien que cette image ne soit pas datée, elle se situe vers 1860. Il a produit une série bien connue de photographies de citoyens éminents.

The book and dust wrapper are both almost as new, with just a fractional handling. No significant marks or wear. Perhaps our imagination, but the dust wrapper and matching boards seem to have a much darker, golden tone than the US edition. Although the introduction and other text is in French - this hardly matters, as this book is all about the photography. London: N/A, 1954. Beautifully bound by Sangorski & Sutcliffe. The attendees captured here include H.R.H. Princess Margaret, The Duke & Duchess of Gloucester, The Duke and Duchess of Kent. Landscape album 246 by 307mm (9¾ by 12 inches). 4 blank leaves, 2 titles (printed in red and black). 28 black and white silver gelatin prints (193x245 mm) mounted on 14 leaves. A further 4 leaves of blanks to the rear. Full morocco binding titled in gold on the first cover in a double frame of gilt fillets, ribbed spine decorated with gilt fillets, gilt fillets on the cuts, interior border highlighted with gilt fillets, binding signed Sangorski & Sutcliffe, London. A little bumping to the corners. Slight handling to the binding only. An inscription has been scratched away on a front end paper. Still a lovely copy. The first 14 photos document the visit of Princess Margaret who was then 24 years old, the next 6 photos concern the Princess and the Duke of Gloucester, the last 8 photos the Duchess of Kent (Princess Marina) and her eldest son (Now Prince Edward, Duke of Kent). Single album, or produced in a very few copies. Although this is a private collection, the indications are that it was produced by press photographers from the Daily Mail. To the title page, the address is Northcliffe House, London. EC4 - which was the headquarters of the Daily Mail at the time. A couple of the photographs can be identified as being used in the press at the time. Also identified in the pictures are Philip Rosenthal, of Rosenthal Porzellan, Germany. Munchen / Munich: Friedr. Bruckmann's Verlag, 1882. First edition. A scarce collection of albumen photographs of the Magic Flute in the loggia of the Imperial and Royal Opera House in Vienna. 1882. Held in a folding cover. Cover is ornately decorated to the front and blind embossed to the rear. Clean and tidy with fractional darkening. Inside, the flaps are a pale grey and also blind stamped. Slight marking where a paper clip (now gone) has been holding something. Inside are a title and 12 cards. The title has the the list of photographs to the rear. Schwind, the Romantic, was himself devoted with all his soul to the sister art; Not only did he like to practise, his whole being was absorbed in music. The laws of beauty seemed to him to be fulfilled more nobly than in the works of contemporary visual art in the classical musical compositions of Mozart and Beethoven, with whom he was well acquainted. What he sought there in vain: depth of feeling, clarity of expression, nobility of form, here he found it expressed. Schwind was influenced by his circle of friends with and around Franz Schubert and Franz von Schober. He took part in the "Schubertiades" (1821-1828), belonged to a reading society founded in 1822, whose members gave themselves names from the Nibelungenlied - Schubert was called "Volker the Singer" and Schwind "Giselher the Child" because of his youth - and repeatedly illustrated the same originals "that had also inspired his friend Schubert to musical utilisation" (e.g. Goethe's ballads "An Schwager Kronos", "Der Erlkönig", "Der Schatzgräber").

London: NA. A nice photograph album, from Circa 1918. Half faux leather with card boards and cord ties. This contains 22 tourist photographs of London. All are size 6.5cm x 8.5cm. Nice sepia tone with white numbers. These seem to be mainly (or possibly all) by Valentine. There are handwritten captions alongside many of the photographs of the major London landmarks. The dating is from the style and vehicles shown. There are then a number of blank pages. To the rear of the album are 4 larger (10cm x 14cm photographs with 3 exteriors and one interior of British country houses. These would appear to be slightly later photographs - perhaps 1930's. A total of 26 photographs. Provenance: From a Brussels antique market, Small photograph (from Brussels studio) with a photograph of an aircraft, circa 1950's. A nice collection. Album dimensions 175 by 205mm (7 by 8 inches).

Paris: Gamma, 1981. Black and white photograph of riot police in West Berlin gathering against protesters, with debris from an Anti-Nuclear demonstration. This press photograph was taken by Wildenberg on 1st September 1981. 20.000 demonstrators had battled the police during a "Ban the Neutron Bomb" march. Arnaud de Wildenberg is a French press photographer. He worked with the Gamma Agency from 1979 to 1981, taking photographs from trouble spots around the world. The Gamma Agency was founded in 1966 and was absorbed by Hachette in 1999. Photograph in good, clean condition with agency details and description to the rear. 200 by 255mm (7¾ by 10 inches). First edition.

Arnaud de Wildenberg est un photographe de presse français. Il a travaillé avec l'agence Gamma de 1979 à 1981, prenant des photographies de points chauds à travers le monde. The mounting card is in good clean condition. Dating from this period, it is difficult to distinguish between and albumen print and an early silver gelatin card mounted photograph. We lean towards the latter. Photograph size is 220mm x 275mm. The mount size is 345mm x 410mm
