Signed by both the poet and the illustrator, is is number 12 of a total limitation of 60 copies; fifty on Velin and ten on other paper. This is one of the copies on Velin. The limitation states that all of the copies were for friends of De Laborderie and Mercier and that none were for sale. This copy is dedicated to Ontieur (?) Jean Mercier. Presumably a relative. Grey soft covers with a pale blue embossed design to the front cover. Slight cracking to the spine at the top and bottom. A touch of intermittent foxing to the pages. The boards are somewhat darkened, with bumping to the edges. Internally, the book is in good condition, with a touch of darkening only, and a little marking to the first couple of pages. viii, 104 pages. The first 12 pages are the poem in Latin. The rest of the book is notes and commentary / translation of it. An unusual gastronomy book. A glossary in French, English and Latin is given at the beginning of the work. Pale blue / grey paper covers; a little worn / darkened, and the paper has split to the spine (has had archival tape at some point). Title page is the first page, and this has the remnant of the cover edge, where it has been stuck. Otherwise clean and tidy throughout, with a little darkening and foxing. Full of charming biographies of French poets. For example, Bernis begins "What a shame for the people of France that this charming poet abandoned it so early." Includes a surprising number of biographies of women.

Jacques LABLÉE. Lawyer; man of letters and journalist; printer and bookseller. - Born in Beaugency (Loiret), he moved to Paris in 1780. A lawyer in Paris in 1789, he was appointed president of the Luxembourg section in 1790 and became editor of the "Journal des réclamations". Printed J.-L. Soulavie's "Suite des Mémoires du maréchal duc de Richelieu" at 7 rue (de) Condé in Paris, under the name "Imprimerie de la collection des Mémoires du règne de Louis XV". Launches in 1792 "Le Fanal parisien, a newspaper necessary to citizens who wish to enlighten themselves about their true interests...". Appointed before Sept. 1793 as general administrator of military supplies, he was imprisoned for six months under the Terror. Until 1810, he was public prosecutor for the Loiret region. Author of numerous literary, historical and political works, he notably wrote "Guillaume le Conquérant, ou la Descente en Angleterre, romance historique" in 1814. Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur on August 17, 1814. Wrote and published in 1823 "Relation de ce qui s'est passé au palais du Luxembourg, deux mois avant le départ de Monsieur". Died in Paris in March 1841 (Fron BnF).

Plein de biographies charmantes de poètes français. Par exemple, Bernis commence par "Quel dommage pour le peuple de France que ce charmant poète l'ait abandonné si tôt". Inclut un nombre surprenant de biographies de femmes.

London: Faber & Faber, 1965. A good + copy of this first edition in a Good + wrapper. Wrapper (now in mylar protection sleeve) has a little nicking to the head and tail of the spine. 3 cm closed tear to the top of the rear panel, and with creasing to the edge of this. A little marking to the rear panel, and darkening to the spine. Still an attractive copy. Boards are in clean condition, with a touch of bumping to the bottom edge. Slight fading to the bottom edge, particularly to the rear board. See pictures for wrapper and book. Internally very nice, fractionally darkened pages. To the inside board is an owner's signature for David S. Miall. dated April 17th. 1965. Then aged 18, he later became professor of English at the University of Alberta. 86 pages. 220 by 140mm (8¾ by 5½ inches).

Original soft cream dust wrapper, clean and tidy without marks. The covers are in clean yellow softback sheets. There is also a glassine protective wrapper, which is clean and tidy, with a little nicking / closed tears only. The glassine would appear to be later than the book itself.
Georges Duhamel (1884 – 1966) was a French author, born in Paris. Duhamel trained as a doctor, and during World War I was attached to the French Army. In 1920, he published Confession de minuit, the first of a series featuring the anti-hero Salavin. In 1935, he was elected as a member of the Académie française. He was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature twenty-seven times (but never won). He was also the father of the musicologist and composer Antoine Duhamel. 106 pages. 190 by 150mm (7½ by 6 inches).

Georges Duhamel (1884 - 1966) était un auteur français, né à Paris. Duhamel a suivi une formation de médecin et, pendant la Première Guerre mondiale, il a été attaché à l'armée française. Odilon-Jean Périer was a Belgian poet of French heritage. He was born in Brussels in 1901 and died there in 1928 of rheumatic pericarditis. His birth name was Jean, but he chose the pseudonym Odilon-Jean Périer to avoid confusion with the actor Jean Périer. He was particularly associated with Surrealist artists and poets. He is still remembered today, with exhibitions and monuments to him in Brussels. 86 pages. 185 by 145mm (7¼ by 5¾ inches).

Il a été particulièrement associé aux artistes et poètes surréalistes.
