    Unknown. A lovely woodcut. Undated but circa 1910. Three young ladies sitting on a boat by a lake side. One is playing the guitar, and the other two listening. Woodcut is 17cm x 20cm. Printed on fine chine papier. Paper is 48cm x 33cm. Signed by Bossert below the image. A little creasing to the paper, particularly at the edges, but overall and attractive piece. Otto Richard Bossert (1874–1919), also known as O. R. Bossert, was a German portrait painter, art teacher and graphic artist. Among his works are portrait etchings of historical figures and color woodcuts. His early works were influenced by Max Klinger.     . Une belle gravure sur bois. Non datée mais vers 1910. Trois jeunes femmes sont assises sur un bateau au bord d'un lac. L'une joue de la guitare et les deux autres écoutent. La gravure sur bois mesure 17 cm x 20 cm. Imprimée sur du papier fin chiné. Le papier mesure 48 cm x 33 cm. Signé par Bossert sous l'image. Le papier est un peu froissé, en particulier sur les bords, mais il s'agit dans l'ensemble d'une belle œuvre. Otto Richard Bossert (1874-1919), également connu sous le nom de O. R. Bossert, était un portraitiste, professeur d'art et artiste graphique allemand. Parmi ses œuvres figurent des portraits à l'eau-forte de personnages historiques et des gravures sur bois en couleur. Ses premières œuvres ont été influencées par Max Klinger. Bossert est né à Heidelberg et a étudié à Karlsruhe, avant de s'installer à Leipzig. En 1904, il commence à enseigner à l'Académie des arts graphiques de Leipzig. En 1911, il passe un été en Normandie et en Bretagne, où il découvre l'art de Paul Cézanne. To the passe partout it is signed "1923 Jorris Minne." This printed on oriental tissue and pasted onto the backing sheet. On the sheet is written in Minne's hand 1e staat (?). The tissue sheet is darkened to the non printed area, and appears to have been stood on, with a footprint to the edge! The backing card is also a little dirty. Nevertheless an attractive, signed lino cut, and the work itself is clean. Print is 10cm x 10cm. Sheet is 29cm x 22cm.

    Joris Minne was a Belgian artist (Ostend 1897-Antwerp 1988). He moved from painting to the graphic arts. Co-founder of the Lumière Group (1919) which gave birth to the De Vijf Group. (along with Frans Masereel, Jan Frans Cantré, Jozef Cantré, and Henri van Straten). He illustrated numerous literary works from 1930.

Le passe-partout est signé "1923 Jorris Minne". Ce texte a été imprimé sur du tissu oriental et collé sur la feuille de support. Sur la feuille est écrit de la main de Minne 1e staat ( ?). La feuille de tissu est assombrie dans la zone non imprimée et semble avoir été piétinée, avec une empreinte de pied sur le bord ! La carte de support est également un peu sale. Néanmoins, il s'agit d'une gravure sur lino attrayante et signée, et l'œuvre elle-même est propre. L'impression fait 10 cm x 10 cm. La feuille mesure 29 cm x 22 cm. Joris Minne était un artiste belge (Ostende 1897-Anvers 1988). Il est passé de la peinture aux arts graphiques. Cofondateur du groupe Lumière (1919) qui a donné naissance au groupe De Vijf. (avec Frans Masereel, Jan Frans Cantré, Jozef Cantré et Henri van Straten). Il illustre de nombreux ouvrages littéraires à partir de 1930.

The merchant points to a sign saying that 5000 Cossack heads were preserved after the last expedition. Signed in the plate by Scherer. Coloured portion 31cm x 23.5cm. is sheet is 43cm x 30.5cm. The image is in very good condition. The white surround is a little darkened and with some edgewear. Pin holes to the top edge. Ministry of the Interior prefecture of Police stamp to the blank verso. Similar copy held at the Musée Carnavalet. Ref. 320234162.

La feuille mesure 43 cm x 30,5 cm. L'image est en très bon état. L'entourage blanc est un peu assombri et présente quelques traces d'usure. Trous d'épingle sur le bord supérieur. Cachet du ministère de l'Intérieur et de la préfecture de police au verso vierge. Exemplaire similaire conservé au musée Carnavalet. Réf. 320234162.

This is not a page from the magazine, it was printed as a poster and is printed later, and numbered in pencil - but with no printer or publisher details. Fantasio was a First World War satirical magazine launched in August 1906 by Félix Juven. The only record of this print we can find is for the auction record of this copy. Adolphe Willette (1857-1926) stands as a prominent figure among the bohemian artists of fin-de-siècle Montmartre, renowned for his contributions as painter, illustrator, caricaturist, and lithographer. He is today particularly remembered for his caricatures from the first world war.

Édition limitée (26/250) Son illustration du 1er mai 1915 dans Fantasio dépeint un thème poignant lié à la guerre : « Vivre en beauté et mourir en libérant une belle âme », avec pour motifs les victimes de la guerre de 1914-1918. Il ne s'agit pas d'une page du magazine, mais d'une affiche imprimée ultérieurement et numérotée au crayon, sans mention de l'imprimeur ou de l'éditeur. Fantasio était un magazine satirique sur la Première Guerre mondiale lancé en août 1906 par Félix Juven. La seule trace que nous ayons trouvée de cette gravure est le résultat de la vente aux enchères de cet exemplaire. Les bords de la large marge sont légèrement abîmés, mais cela peut facilement être masqué par un encadrement. Une très belle pièce. La surface de l'image est de 26,5 cm x 41,5 cm. La feuille mesure 41,5 cm x 59 cm. Verso vierge. Adolphe Willette (1857-1926) est une figure éminente parmi les artistes bohèmes du Montmartre fin de siècle, réputé pour ses contributions en tant que peintre, illustrateur, caricaturiste et lithographe. On se souvient aujourd'hui particulièrement de lui pour ses caricatures de la Première Guerre mondiale.

Il y a quelques petites réparations au verso vierge de la plaque (non visibles de face). Très bel exemplaire. Il est rare de trouver un exemplaire en couleur. La bataille d'Audenarde entre les alliés du prince de Savoie et du duc de Marlborough et les Français, le 11 juillet 1708. À gauche, le prince est à cheval.     As Ballett und Pantomime was produced not long after the end of WW1, Schnackenberg attracted attention with his creations. His figures and drawings make it clear that in dance and pantomime, the people felt they could reclaim the right to rejoice in the beauty of the body, in animated movement, in colour, in costume, in performance. Tipped on images size: 285 x 230 mm (11¼ x 9 inches). Whole sheet, including margins: 510 x 390 mm (20 x 15¼ inches). Sold under passe partout with colour of image picked out in detail to the edge.     SEM - Georges Goursat (1863–1934), was a French caricaturist famous during the Belle Époque. As well as the caricatures which made him famous, he created work in a very different style as a correspondent during World War I. His later work was very influenced by the "Jazz Age" and high society in Paris during the 1920's.

Usure modérée des bords, avec quelques petites déchirures fermées et de légères entailles sur le bord de la feuille, légères marques par ailleurs. Propre mais avec un peu de rousseur au verso. L'album original comprenait 38 planches. 510 par 325mm (20 par 12¾ pouces). Une copie de cette estampe est conservée dans les merveilleux Musées de la ville de Paris. Inventaire : G.37025.
    SEM - Georges Goursat (1863-1934) était un caricaturiste français célèbre à la Belle Époque. Outre les caricatures qui l'ont rendu célèbre, il a créé des œuvres d'un style très différent en tant que correspondant pendant la Première Guerre mondiale. Ses œuvres ultérieures ont été très influencées par "l'âge du jazz" et la haute société parisienne des années 1920.

A single sock hangs drying in the background. An attractive sheet, under passepartout). We have been unable to find any other copies, and cannot identify the illustrator.
