With Roman Catholic imprimata to the verso of the title page. The binding has a little edge wear, with a touch of nicking to the head and tail of the spine. The gilt titles are slightly faded from rubbing. Otherwise in good clean condition. Internally slightly darkened, but clean and tidy throughout. 92 pages.

The list of patrons and the committee, led by the Earl of Shrewsbury, includes Lord Clifford as one of the (many) Vice Presidents. The Catholic Institute grew out of the Metropolitan Catholic Tract Society. The organisation was formed "To protect the rights of Conscience of the Poorer classes of Catholics and to promote the interests of Religion and charity." Irish M.P. Daniel O'Connell was also involved in the establishment of the Institute. Led initially by the Hon. Charles Langdale M.P. 16pp.
Condition: Clean and tidy copy of this work. The pages are almost without mark, and the printing has made a clean, deep impression.

Matthew Russell, S.J., (1834-1912), who was the editor for almost forty years. Green cloth, with gilt and black titles and design (a harp and title in Celtic style to the front board of each volume). Stories, poems and essays. Good condition with just a little nicking / edgewear. Slight foxing to the pages. Contains the bookplate of the Library of Syon Abbey in Chudleigh - the Brigittine Monastery.

Internally clean throughout, with a touch of darkening. The prayer to the front free endpaper shows the book to have been a gift from a nun to her niece / Goddaughter, for New Year 1873. However, she occasionally used the surname 'Atkin' too.Linen-backed red paper boards, covers a little spotted and marked, a very small marginal tear in one leaf, but overall a very good copy. An attractive frontis illustration by Grace Furneaux Wood. Although there are no titles to the text, the acknowledgment would suggest that this is a collection of poems, rather than one long poem.
The cream covers have a mottling of foxing to them, a few marks, but still tidy. Internally clean and tidy, although many of the paragraphs of the poem have pencil lines highlighting them in the margins. Overall in sound condition. 24 pages.
