There are also references to The Glossop Estate, and settlements in 1841. An annuity to Dr Sandon and his wife is mentioned, as is a re-settlement agreed on the date of the Duke of Surrey's marriage. Full contemporary straight grain dark red morocco, gilt lettered 'Miscellaneous' on the upper cover. Slight wear to the head of the spine, and lacks the clasp. It bears the engraved stationers' label of Bebbington's Bath Paper Warehouse, 426, Strand. 120 mm x 190 mm. Henry Charles Howard and his father were Roman Catholics, although his mother Lady Elizabeth Belasyse was Anglican. It is not clear if Howard was formally and nominally raised Anglican, or if he was already Catholic when he married into a prominent Whig (and therefore anti-Catholic) family in 1814. In 1829, after Catholic emancipation, the Earl of Surrey (as he now was) was elected a Member of Parliament. In 1839
his son, Henry Granville Fitzalan, Fourteenth Duke of Norfolk, married Augusta Lyons, the daughter of Admiral
Sir Edmund (afterwards Lord) Lyons, the ambassador at Athens. This necessitated a revision of his father's inheritance provisions.

Gift inscription to the front end paper. vignette title page with inscription "librio di Guid Antonio Belerarni 1708" in ink. Publisher's introduction, Saint days of the year (with a small woodcut for each month), contents, and text. The pagination runs to page 572. The second part (Coninciano le Lettioni) has a separate pagination, but was always intended to be part of the same work, the main part finishing the register at Nn8 - the continuation beginning Aaa. There are a large number of woodcuts throughout, and each new date / lesson, has a historiated capital. A very nice copy. The vellum binding is somewhat darkened and with a little marking, but is still flexible and has no cracks to it. The hand written spine label is still legible. Internally, clean and tidy throughout. There is a little darkening to the pages with the odd page having foxing spots. A few of the pages have tiny nicks to the edges and there is a tiny amount of worm damage to the rear of the book, but none affecting the text. Overall a very nice copy of this work. This is a reprint of this work. There were numerous editions, and variations of the work by different publishers. This work is translated by Remigio Fiorentino. His real name was Remigio Nannini. He was born in Florence (Firenze) Circa 1521 He died in 1581, and was a Dominican. This was his most popular work. Angelieri published his edition from 1590. Title (end papers look newer, although still quite old), dedication, imprimatur, author note, subject index, twenty sermons, biblical index, index of notable things, printer's register. NB - the text is entirely in Italian. The publisher's paper boards have a few minor stains to them. The spine is new, and is in "as new" condition. The end papers (and inside board lining) looks newer, but has a watermark of a bird on three mountains. I have traced this back to three items, all bound in Italy between 1650 and 1690 - so they probably are original. The title page has some darkening / foxing to it, the rest of the pages have a touch of darkening / marking. The binding has slightly cracked to register +, but is still holding well. A couple of the pages have closed tears, where they have strained to the binding, and the rear end paper has a loss of about 1 inch square. Otherwise sound. There is only one copy recorded at Copac (BL). There are a small number held in Italy. At the time of writing this, there are no other copies available, and none recently sold. There is a digitised copy of part of a first edition (up to p 184) (held at the Bavarian State Library). This has an ornate additional page (in the style of a title). I believe this is a later large bookplate. There are two reasons for this. Although the digitisation makes it hard to certain, this looks like a steel engraving, it is certainly in a different style to any of the woodcuts. Additionally, my copy, which is complete, has its complete register, and so is not lacking any pages. [xvi], 1-512, i-xxvii pp. 23cm x 17cm
