Original half tan leather with marbled boards. The boards and leather are a little rubbed, and appear to have had some restoration. Burgundy leather label with gilt titles. A little rubbing to the titles. Inside, the work bears the bookplate of Edward William Harcourt (1825-1891), Conservative Member of Parliament, naturalist and author of several books. Some foxing to the end papers. The rest of the book is clean and tidy throughout. The two volumes contain fresh prefaces and errata, and an appendix of 56 pages which deals with issues in admitting fever patients to hospitals. Currie was the first doctor to use cold water in the treatment of fever. He favoured using sea water and showered patients with colder and colder water in an attempt to subdue fever. Toulouse: J.M. Douladoure, 1820. A nice copy of this first edition. Signed by the author opposite the title page, with a dedication to a Doctor Lallemand. A treatise on the history and nature of hospitals / hospitality in ancient times. The binding is an attractive half leather with marbled boards. gilt decoration to the spine with a burgundy label. Six panels to the spine. There is a loss of half a panel of the spine leather. Slight bumping and rubbing to the binding otherwise. Slight weakening to the front hinge. Marbled end papers. The title page has had almost half of it cut out, but has been replaced professionally with similar paper at a later date (see photograph). There is also a location stamp to the top of the title page. To the next page (introduction) there is a small circular stamp. Somewhat obscured and un identifiable. This is repeated a couple of times throughout the book. Otherwise clean and tidy throughout the work, with just a touch of foxing. Frizac (1772-1865) was a native of Toulouse and surgeon. From 1808 to 1814 he was head of the secretariat of the Grand Duchy of Florence, in charge of the mendicity department. Louis XVIII appointed him a counseiller to the Prefecture of Toulouse. Complete in itself. After a brief introduction, the work is essentially a list of medicines with a little text about each one. First gather is detached, the rest of the text block holding together. Held in a green paper cover. The pages are slightly darkened, but clean. 140 x 80 mm (5½ x 3¼ inches).

Internally mainly clean and tidy throughout, with no major damage. The plates are clean and good impressions. There is a little staining to the corner of some of the pages. This was the only French edition of Baker's "Microscope made easy" published in 1742. This French edition was expanded from the English edition, with a section on Polyps and an addition engraving (of microscopes). This was described by "Microbiology Today" as the first Microscopy laboratory manual. Baker was central in popularising microscopes in the eighteenth century. Translation by Father Esprit Pezenas. Largely dedicated to the baths and the conservation of heat among the ancients, a part also dedicated to Mercuriale. In excellent condition. Contemporary half leather over mottled boards. The plates with decorative animal illustrations by J. Tookey after J. Ibbetson. Half calf binding with brown boards. The boards are somewhat stained. The binding is rubbed to the corners and edges. The gilt decoration and titles to the spine are still attractive though. Has the ownership signature of G. Goldney, Buckfield to the front end paper. Small bookshop stamp of Paul A Struck of New York to the inside board. Some of the pages and plates have light water staining (a couple there is more distinct staining), and there is light foxing in places. Pages a touch darkened. Overall, a nice copy though. Unpaginated. Julius Caesar Ibbetson (1759-1817), was a Yorkshire painter noted for his rural scenes and depictions of animals. This is the first printing of an important work of natural history, which was re-printed in 1848/9. 330 by 260mm (13 by 10¼ inches).

Plain red canvas spine, front cover illustrated in colour, illustrations to every page, including a large double-page spread featuring an automobile chassis to the centre pages. 32 pages. Slight marking to the front board. The cover and pages are slightly darkened, particularly to the edges, but without any significant damage. It appears that the book has been re-sewn at some point, as the sewn binding is bright and clean to the central pages. A nice copy. 300 x 215 mm

Gift inscription opposite. The book is in good condition throughout with a little darkening to the pages. Tipped into the rear of the book, are a review of the title by the Manchester Guardian, and the original dust wrapper of the book. This work was an attempt by the Danish economist, to counter the inflation and depression of the previous few years which had come about from an abandoning of the Gold Standard. He suggested that money supply be connected to an index of measurements of market requirements (index linking). 112 pages. 220 x 150 mm.

An interesting English guide dedicated to horse owners, illustrated with a beautiful steel engraving (first printing). based on a work by the author Harry Hieover pseudonym of Charles Bindley (1795/6–1859). Half tan morocco, smooth spine decorated with blind stamped design, gilded title, green percaline boards, the first decorated with a gilt decoration. The boards and spine are in good, clean condition. A touch of rubbing only. Internally the book is in very nice condition. Some light foxing otherwise very good copy. Bookplate of Alfred André, a great bibliophile, from a Nimes Protestant family who made their money in the silk trade, then in banking. Paris: Chez Laurent D'Houry, 1699. New edition. A scarce medical work. No copies available to purchase at time of cataloguing. FirstSearch records only one library copy in a Parisian Medical Library. Half leather with mottled boards. The leather spine is attractive, with gilt titles, a little rubbed and spotted. Cracked to hinges but holding well. The boards are somewhat rubbed, with part of the paper of the front board lacking. Surprisingly, the title was obviously written on the card below (Unless the papers was added later and then deteriorated. Internally clean and tidy throughout. vignettes to the two section headings. Printer's vignette to title page. This new edition was printed 10 years after the first edition, which was published by Hilaire Foucault with no author stated, although this has been attributed by some bibliographies to Pierre Betbeder. . Nouvelle édition. Un ouvrage médical rare. Aucun exemplaire disponible à l'achat au moment du catalogage. FirstSearch ne signale qu'un seul exemplaire dans une bibliothèque médicale parisienne. Demi-cuir et planches mouchetées. Le dos en cuir est attrayant, avec des titres dorés, un peu frotté et taché. Les charnières sont fissurées mais tiennent bien. Les planches sont quelque peu frottées, avec une partie du papier de la première planche manquante. Il est surprenant de constater que le titre a été écrit sur la carte en dessous (à moins que le papier n'ait été ajouté plus tard et qu'il se soit détérioré par la suite). L'intérieur de l'ouvrage est propre et bien rangé. Les deux titres de section sont ornés d'une vignette. Vignette de l'imprimeur sur la page de titre. Cette nouvelle édition a été imprimée 10 ans après la première édition, publiée par Hilaire Foucault sans mention d'auteur, bien que certaines bibliographies l'aient attribué à Pierre Betbeder.
