Barcelona: Luis Tasso, 1930. Two caricature albums, both published by Tasso, bound together. Stiff boards, covered in cloth, with no titles to the outside. Good, clean condition. Inside, each of the albums has a colour title, and 24 pages of black and white caricatures. "Lances de honor" takes the theme of swords and duels. Album Toros is duals between man and bulls. Both have text in Spanish, with the text repeated in French to the bottom of the page, and use humour as satire. ""Lances has a colour final cover also. The final cover of "Toros" is shiny blank paper (before the end paper of the convolute). Both in very good condition, with a little darkening. The paper is becoming brittle, but still in neat and tidy condition. A couple of tiny edge tears. Overall nice copies (protected in their outside boards) of scarce items. Barcelona: Hermenegildo Miralles, 1894. A nice copy of the first edition of this bull fighting work. It has been restored at some point, with a new cloth spine. Rubbing to the edges of the covers with slight loss to the surface image. Several of the initial pages have had their edges repaired with archival tape, and some of the tissue guards to the front are creased. Leaves are a little handled, with some marking to them. This is one of the copies with a lithograph as a front board (pasted down to the hardback) rather than cloth. Every copy we can find online lists 27 lithographs. The 28th mentioned in the title seems to be the cover. This copy is complete with the 4 pages with scores with coloured illustrations and borders. The artworks are by Daniel Perea (1836-1909), illustrator and the artistic director of the famous bullfighting magazine "La Lidia." Each lithograph is accompanied by a sheet with explanatory texts in Spanish, English and French. 270 by 360mm (10¾ by 14¼ inches).

An interesting English guide dedicated to horse owners, illustrated with a beautiful steel engraving (first printing). based on a work by the author Harry Hieover pseudonym of Charles Bindley (1795/6–1859). Half tan morocco, smooth spine decorated with blind stamped design, gilded title, green percaline boards, the first decorated with a gilt decoration. The boards and spine are in good, clean condition. A touch of rubbing only. Internally the book is in very nice condition. Some light foxing otherwise very good copy. Bookplate of Alfred André, a great bibliophile, from a Nimes Protestant family who made their money in the silk trade, then in banking. He became regent of the Bank of France in 1871. xvi, 216, 32 pages. 32 page edverts fro new works by Longman to rear. 180 by 110mm (7 by 4¼ inches). he author Charles Bindley (1795/6–1859) was a British sports writer specializing in horses and outdoor sports, particularly hunting and stable management.

London: Collins, 1936. A decent copy of this first edition. Green cloth boards, with some fading and a little staining to the covers. Faded spine and slight bumping. A little foxing throughout, but the plates, on shiny art paper are in good condition. 6 colour plates and 6 monochrome illustrations. By sport, Edwards mainly means horse riding and hunting. Owner's inscription to the front end paper, for Darjeeling in August 1943 - in the midst of war! 98 pages. 320 by 255mm (12½ by 10 inches).

A scarce item, none for sale and only occasionally at auction. Moderate foxing throughout. Creasing to front free endpaper. In contemporary buckram binding with slight rubbing to the binding. Première édition. 24 planches de scènes de chasse, chacune avec légendes en français, suivies de six feuillets de fanfares (texte et musique imprimés sur un seul côté du feuillet). Fascinating illustrated catalogue with thousands of black and white engravings in the text, and 12 colour plates outside the text. Complete with some green address labels to front. Undated, but circa 1925. This is the full catalogue of 660 pages. We have dated this by seeing a medal in the 'Hirondelle Cycle' supplement inside. Paper covers are slightly worn to corners, but otherwise in a very good condition. 255 x 190 mm (10 x 7½ inches). Édition originale. Broché, couverture n/b illustrée. Fascinant catalogue illustré avec des milliers de gravures en noir et blanc dans le texte, et 12 planches en couleurs hors texte. Complet avec quelques étiquettes d'adresse vertes à l'avant. The boards and spine are in excellent condition. Internally generally clean and tidy, with a little darkening. Former owner's signatures and a little spotting to the first title page. Overall a very attractive copy. The author states that the alphabetic form which he has adopted has a twofold aim: 1. To facilitate the child's study of the horse, because the dictionary form is more favourable for those whose attention span is quickly tired, or those who can only study at intervals. 2. To offer to the amateur an explanatory lexicon of the usual words used by the horseman. Three parts in one volume, each in the form of an ABC. The first devoted to 'Dresses and brands', the second to 'conformations, flaws, and injuries', and the the third on 'The races'. 250 by 180mm (9¾ by 7 inches).
