NA. The photo-diary of a German family, who embarked on a world tour in 1928. 227 original photographs and 94 photo-postcards / commercial photographs are collected and captioned on 79 pages. The album was purchased on their journey at Niagara Falls, and is a limp leather, with an original painting of a native American to the front cover. The photographs vary in size, but are mainly about 14 cm x 9 cm each. Most in excellent condition. Often one man (presumably album owner) is marked with a small cross to the image.

This is an ex-library of the copy from the Literary And Philosophical Society in Newcastle. In brown / green cloth hardback boards. Complete; including frontis folding chart entitled "Exhibiting the Variation of the Compass agreeable to the position of the Ships Head at the time of Observation. Also the track of His Majestys Ships Sybille & Princess Carolina in a Cruize to East Greenland in 1814." Boards are darkened, and have some very small spots of soiling. Fold-out has small tear to very edges. Unfortunately, aside from the expected library stamps at the front and on verso of fold-out, the book has some damage from damp. Several of the pages have obviously stuck together at some point, and been forcibly opened, leading to loss of text. Paris: L. G. Michaud & Delaunay Libraire, 1814. First Edition of this uncommon work giving an overview of the United States of America at the beginning of the Nineteenth Century. Complete with all maps and tables. Contemporary green hardback binding with burgundy and gilt spine label. The binding is somewhat rubbed and darkened. A weakness to the front board has been repaired and sewn at some point. There is a large (50cm x 38cm) map of North America with hand coloured borders and boundaries. This has a repaired hole to the top right edge (not really affecting map detail) and a repaired closed tear to the book edge, through the cartouche. There are also 17 charts and plans to the the rear showing statistical information. 274 pages. The pages are clean, with a little darkening to the edges only. A decent copy. 230 by 150mm (9 by 6 inches). The author was the French Consul General in the United States From 1804 to 1810, representing Napoleon Bonaparte to Thomas Jefferson. Howes' C624 makes this the first issue as it has printed endpapers (advertisements); these are blank endpapers in later issues. Small previous owner name and date to front. Complete with map on page 12. 490 pages. Foxing throughout. 190 x 135 mm (7½ x 5¼ inches). Titre long : L'histoire d'une croisière à bord de la frégate américaine Congress vers la Californie. London: Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme and Brown, 1817. First edition. Bound in late 19th century half calf, marbled boards. A little light spotting to extremities. Title on spine. A very good copy. The book bears the owner's signature of T.J. Powell, Brecon. This would seem to be the Welsh composer and conductor Thomas James Powell. A little rubbing to the binding, which has been restored. Book is in very good, clean condition, with a touch of foxing to the initial pages.

Although translated from the French, this was the first Edition. A classic analysis of Hindu society. Jean-Antoine Dubois, 1765-1848, French catholic missionary, sailed in 1792 to India where he spent twenty-seven years, serving first in Pondichery, then at Mysore and Mangalore.

'...To which is prefixed, a geographical memoir of Abyssinia and South-Eastern Africa by James McQueen esq. grounded on the missionaries' journals, and the expedition of the Pacha of Egypt up the Nile.' Original brown blind stamped buckram with gilt titles to spine. Yellow end papers. Small bookseller's embossed stamp to the half title. (George Gardham of Beverley). Two folding hand coloured maps of the relevant parts of Africa.. The buckram is a little faded and rubbed to the edge. There is a little chipping to the head and tail of the spine with slight loss. A split to the board has been repaired. A closed tear to the half title page has been neatly repaired. The maps are in very nice clean condition. xxvii, 529. pp
