To the rear of the book are eight pages of b/wphotographs taken by the author on his trip to the Amazon. Boards are in good, clean, slightly bumped condition. Complete with all maps and tables. Contemporary green hardback binding with burgundy and gilt spine label. The binding is somewhat rubbed and darkened. A weakness to the front board has been repaired and sewn at some point. There is a large (50cm x 38cm) map of North America with hand coloured borders and boundaries. This has a repaired hole to the top right edge (not really affecting map detail) and a repaired closed tear to the book edge, through the cartouche. There are also 17 charts and plans to the the rear showing statistical information. 274 pages. The pages are clean, with a little darkening to the edges only. A decent copy. 230 by 150mm (9 by 6 inches). The author was the French Consul General in the United States From 1804 to 1810, representing Napoleon Bonaparte to Thomas Jefferson. Une faiblesse à la première planche a été réparée et cousue à un moment donné. L'ouvrage comporte une grande carte (50 cm x 38 cm) de l'Amérique du Nord avec des bordures et des limites colorées à la main. Elle présente un trou réparé sur le bord supérieur droit (qui n'affecte pas vraiment les détails de la carte) et une déchirure fermée réparée sur le bord du livre, à travers le cartouche. L'ouvrage comporte également 17 graphiques et plans au verso présentant des informations statistiques. 274 pages. Les pages sont propres, avec un léger assombrissement sur les bords seulement. NA. The photo-diary of a German family, who embarked on a world tour in 1928. 227 original photographs and 94 photo-postcards / commercial photographs are collected and captioned on 79 pages. The album was purchased on their journey at Niagara Falls, and is a limp leather, with an original painting of a native American to the front cover. The photographs vary in size, but are mainly about 14 cm x 9 cm each. Most in excellent condition. Often one man (presumably album owner) is marked with a small cross to the image.

Lutzow (commissioned 1907 as Norddeutscher Lloyd steamship); New York; Buffalo N.Y.; Niagara Falls; Toronto; Cleveland, Ohio; Detroit, Michigan; Native Americans (posing for tourists in ceremonial dress); Chicago; San Francisco; S.S. A zograscope is an optical device for magnifying flat images, as the shape of the lens enhanced the sense of the depth shown in the picture. The precursor to 3D images!
