Edinburgh: N.P, 1885. First edition. A lovely album, sized 28cm x 37cm. Most of the albumen photographs are sized 21cm x 27cm. Sadly, the album has no ownership details, but the first photograph is of a British ship, This is HMS Malabar, a Euphrates-class troopship which appears in several of the photographs, so we assume that our traveller was aboard this vessel. Next is a fabulous photograph of what seems to be a theatre troupe, perhaps for a fancy dress event on the cruiser, as the outfits seem to bear little connection to each other. Sadly there is nothing to identify the participants. Then follows a large photograph of Aden in the Yemen, and one of the Suez Canal from Suez itself. The following three photographs are of Port Said, at the other end of the canal. Then follow Sixteen photographs of Cairo and district, including the pyramids, mosques and including several photographs by Félix Bonfils and H Arnoux. Two of the photographs have a small area of loss where the photos have stuck together in the album, but with fairly minor loss. Included in these are a lovely photographs of date sellers and a praying man (both studio photographs by Zangaki Brothers Janos and Adelphoi) and a group of camels about to set off. We return to the Suez canal for the next photograph, where the Malabar is photographed by the Zangaki brothers. This image was lately used in the Larousse dictionary, with two more photgraphs of the Malabar on the canal. (Photographed by the Zangaki brothers). These 26 photographs make up the "Middle Eastern" portion of the album. The next photograph is of the harbour at Malta, and there are a total of nine large photographs of Malta. As an interlude is a curious photograph of a cartoon / caricature of a boat being pulled, and labelled "The Nile 1884-5." Next we find a lovely photograph of the Rock of Gibraltar from the Spanish coast and two further photographs of Gibraltar landmarks. The next stop on our journey is Norway, where there are seven photographs of Christiania (Oslo). There is a final Norwegian photograph which is a hand coloured photograph of young women in traditional Norwegian costume. Finally, the traveller returns to the United Kingdom, and arrives at the Forth Bridge and Edinburgh with two beautiful large sized photographs. Finally are seven smaller (but still very respectable) albumen photographs of Edinburgh landmarks. These each are 13cm x 21cm. So in total, we offer an album of 50 pages, containing a total of 56 albumen photographs (49 large format and seven slightly smaller).

Vient ensuite une fabuleuse photographie de ce qui semble être une troupe de théâtre, peut-être pour un bal costumé organisé sur le croiseur, car les tenues semblent n'avoir que peu de rapport les unes avec les autres. Malheureusement, rien ne permet d'identifier les participants. Suit ensuite une grande photographie d'Aden au Yémen, puis une autre du canal de Suez prise depuis Suez même. Les trois photographies suivantes représentent Port-Saïd, à l'autre extrémité du canal. Viennent ensuite seize photographies du Caire et de ses environs, notamment les pyramides et les mosquées, dont plusieurs prises par Félix Bonfils et H. Arnoux. Deux des photographies présentent une petite zone endommagée où les photos se sont collées dans l'album, mais les dégâts sont relativement mineurs. Parmi celles-ci, on trouve de jolies photos de vendeurs de dattes et d'un homme en prière (toutes deux prises en studio par les frères Zangaki, Janos et Adelphoi) et d'un groupe de chameaux sur le point de partir. Nous retournons au canal de Suez pour la photo suivante, où le Malabar est photographié par les frères Zangaki. Cette image a récemment été utilisée dans le dictionnaire Larousse, avec deux autres photos du Malabar sur le canal. (Photographié par les frères Zangaki). Ces 26 photographies constituent la partie "Moyen-Orient" de l'album. La photographie suivante représente le port de Malte, et il y a au total neuf grandes photographies de Malte. En guise d'intermède, on trouve une curieuse photographie d'un dessin animé / caricature d'un bateau tiré, intitulée "Le Nil 1884-5". Nous trouvons ensuite une jolie photographie du rocher de Gibraltar depuis la côte espagnole et deux autres photographies de monuments de Gibraltar. La prochaine étape de notre voyage est la Norvège, où se trouvent sept photographies de Christiania (Oslo). La dernière photographie norvégienne est une photographie colorée à la main représentant des jeunes femmes en costume traditionnel norvégien. Enfin, le voyageur revient au Royaume-Uni et arrive au pont du Forth et à Édimbourg avec deux magnifiques photographies grand format. Pour finir, sept photographies albumines plus petites (mais tout de même très respectables) représentent des monuments d'Édimbourg. Elles mesurent chacune 13 cm x 21 cm. Au total, nous proposons donc un album de 50 pages contenant 56 photographies albumines (49 grand format et sept légèrement plus petites).

Complete with the frontispiece folding table of tsz-pu, or 'radicals'. The book block has almost come away from the boards at the spine. The spine has cracking and splitting. Pages clean inside. An ideal book for a repair / rebind. 159 pages. 170 x 110 mm (6¾ x 4¼ inches).

Christopher Makos was Warhol's personal photographer and these images document a visit to China in the early 1980s, when the artist's work was not so well known. 86 pages. 375 x 260 mm (14¾ x 10¼ inches). Première édition. Tissu rouge avec photo de Warhol collée sur la première page. En très bon état. Avec des photographies en noir et blanc. Texte en anglais et en chinois. The map design is repeated as end papers. Owner's bookplate to the front end paper. Seven full-page woodcut or linocut b/w illustrations. Also a number of vignettes. To the rear of the book are eight pages of b/wphotographs taken by the author on his trip to the Amazon. Boards are in good, clean, slightly bumped condition. Inside, clean and tidy throughout. 320, [viii] pp. 230 x 160 mm. (9 x 6¼ inches).

Paris: L. G. Michaud & Delaunay Libraire, 1814. First Edition of this uncommon work giving an overview of the United States of America at the beginning of the Nineteenth Century. Complete with all maps and tables. Contemporary green hardback binding with burgundy and gilt spine label. The binding is somewhat rubbed and darkened. A weakness to the front board has been repaired and sewn at some point. There is a large (50cm x 38cm) map of North America with hand coloured borders and boundaries. This has a repaired hole to the top right edge (not really affecting map detail) and a repaired closed tear to the book edge, through the cartouche. There are also 17 charts and plans to the the rear showing statistical information. 274 pages. The pages are clean, with a little darkening to the edges only. A decent copy. 230 by 150mm (9 by 6 inches). The author was the French Consul General in the United States From 1804 to 1810, representing Napoleon Bonaparte to Thomas Jefferson. NA. The photo-diary of a German family, who embarked on a world tour in 1928. 227 original photographs and 94 photo-postcards / commercial photographs are collected and captioned on 79 pages. The album was purchased on their journey at Niagara Falls, and is a limp leather, with an original painting of a native American to the front cover. The photographs vary in size, but are mainly about 14 cm x 9 cm each. Most in excellent condition. Often one man (presumably album owner) is marked with a small cross to the image.

Paris: 1765. Copper engraving, beautifully hand coloured. Originally designed to be viewed through a zograscope. Title in French. Shows Haringpakkerstoren, adn the Haringpakkerij, with its bridge. After Willem Writs. In very good condition, under neat card mount. Visible area within card mount: 315 x 415 mm (12½ x 16¼ inches).
A zograscope is an optical device for magnifying flat images, as the shape of the lens enhanced the sense of the depth shown in the picture. The precursor to 3D images! These were very fashionable in the late 18th century. Gravure sur cuivre, magnifiquement colorée à la main. Conçu à l'origine pour être vu à travers un zograscope. Titre en français. Willem Writs. Un zograscope est un appareil optique pour agrandir des images plates, car la forme de l'objectif améliore le sens de la profondeur montrée dans l'image. Le précurseur des images 3D ! Celles-ci étaient très à la mode à la fin du XVIIIe siècle.

London: J. Walthoe, D. Midwinter, A. Bettesworth and C. Hitch..et al, 1738. Second edition. Volume I only (of two). Full leather binding with gilt details and titles. The leather is a little rubbed and the gilt faded. Slight cracking to the hinge, but holding well. Complete with three engraved plates (two folding). All three of the engraved plates are found in this, the first of the two volumes. Figures 1 and 2 depict river locks; figure 3 depicts "An Engine to raise water with a chain of buckets." Engraved capitals and end pieces. Internally in good clean condition, in a good, tight condition. Owner's name to the head of the title page. iv, 428, 120 pp. 205 x 130 mm (8 x 5 inches).

John Ray was an English naturalist, widely regarded as one of the earliest of the English parson-naturalists, and the man with whom "the adventure of modern science begins".

Antipodes: 1900. - Two albumen prints - mounted on the recto and verso of an oblong of grey card. One side showing The Gap and South Head at Watsons Bay in the eastern suburbs of Sydney, Australia (circa 1903); and on the other side a view of the town of Hobart, Tasmania (from Lansdowne Crescent) taken by John Watt Beattie.
- Two collodion paper prints showing the harbour of Lyttelton, New Zealand by an unknown photographer, and a landscape view across the Bealey near Christchurch, New Zealand taken by E. Wheeler & Son - these also mounted on the recto and verso of an oblong of grey card.
- One unmounted collodion paper print is of the Waimangu Geyser, which is located near Rotorua, New Zealand. This says JM2070 on the front - and possibly refers to the James Ingram McDonald (the painter, photographer, filmmaker, museum director, cultural ambassador, film censor, and promoter of Maori arts and crafts) and may have been taken whilst he was employed by the New Zealand Government Tourist Department in the early 20th Century. The geyser was known to erupt on a cycle of around 36 hours and would reach heights of up to 450 metres. Written on the verso of the photograph it reads: "The column of steam is about 1200 feet high". This geyser stopped erupting in 1904.
