    Centennial Portfolio: A Souvenir of the International exhibition at Philadelphia. Comprising Lithographic Views of Fifty of its Principal Buildings with Letter-Press Description.

    Philadelphia: Thomas Hunter, 1876. A lovely copy of this first edition, designed to highlight the international exposition. clean and tidy gilt and black decorated cloth. There is a map of the centennial grounds, and then fifty beautifully coloured lithographs, with plans and descriptions to facing pages where applicable. 52 pages + 50 lithographs. The final coloured lithograph is of Independence Hall. The exhibition was timed to celebrate 100 years of independence. The covers are in very good, clean condition, with just a small area of discoloration to the rear panel. Internally clean and tidy throughout, with just a touch of darkening to the edges and a touch of foxing to a few pages. 190 by 290 mm (7½ by 11½ inches).

Bound in with this work is "The Oregon Territory" with a map to the front of this. This work, published in 1846 by M. A. Nattali (London) was also by Traill. (1st edition). There is a slight marking / lightening to portions of the green cloth - possibly from water marks. Not heavy though. Internally clean and tidy throughout. Very slight marking / darkening only. The illustrations are clean and tidy. includes much useful and interesting information on home-making under pioneer conditions, including pioneer recipes. Catherine Parr Traill (nee Strickland) 1802-1899. With her sisters Agnes, Elizabeth and Susanna, she was born in Rotherhithe, England, and was a children's author before emigrating with her husband (a retired Napoleonic Soldier) to Canada.     Portland, Maine: Thomas B Mosher, 1913. A lovely reproduction of this famous passage from the Bible, printed on heavy laid and watermarked paper in red and black. Historiated initials throughout. Grey boards with white paper spine. Black and red titles and decoration. Held in a grey / green slipcase with titles to the front and side. There is an owner's ex libris bookplate to the cover of the slipcase. 32 [iv] pp.

    Condition: Overall a very nice copy. The slipcase has a touch of cracking and rubbing to the edges, but holding and sound overall. A touch of loss to the bottom edge. The boards of the book are slightly darkened. Inside, it is in lovely condition throughout. A very nice example.
