Paris: Chez Jacques Barois, 1744. First edition. A lovely copy of this Catalogue raisonné. A guide to the jewellery, porcelain, chandeliers, lacquerware, bronzes, clocks, as well as full catalogues of paintings, drawings and prints. from the estate Quentin de Lorangere. Sadly, this copy was bound without two leaves (p131-134). We have supplied this in a good facsimile of the first edition (see photos) but these leaves are not original. Full leather binding with gilt details to the spine. Slightly rubbed, but in good, clean condition with title to leather label. Neat manuscript entry to the front end paper verso explaining the Callot entry. The book is in very nice, clean condition with a touch of darkening only. Alongside many of the entries are manuscript annotations in ink, with numbers. We assume that these are the prices reached at the auction. Frontispiece engraved by Charles-Nicolas Cochin fils (1715-1790) after Charles-Nicolas Cochin (1688-1754), depicting art lovers at the exhibition preceding a sale of paintings and drawings. "Table alphabetique" (96 p. at end) includes notes on the artists and their works. The book was compiled by Edme-François Gersaint, a prominent art dealer and author known for his expertise in prints and natural history specimens. Of importance are the significant sections of Callot (pages 49-130) and that on Watteau (pages 170-188). The latter is of particular historical interest, as it is the first biography of Watteau. Edmé-François Gersaint, a Parisian art dealer, knew Watteau personally in his final years. Paris: S.P, C1935. An original ink sketch of the Cathédrale Saint-Maclou, Pontoise by Albert Lemasson. It shows the detailing of one corner of the exterior of the cathedral. A sketch in ink, and signed in ink by the artist to the bottom right. 50.5cm x 33cm. The work has, clearly been hung at some point, and has the remnant of tape to the rear. Overall a very clean sheet, with just a touch of darkening. A nice sketch. Cathédrale Saint-Maclou in Pontoise, France, is a Roman Catholic cathedral blending Romanesque, Gothic, and Renaissance styles. Originally built as a parish church in the mid-12th century, it was elevated to cathedral status in 1966 upon the creation of the Diocese of Pontoise.. Albert Lemasson was a French painter (1892-1982. He was classically trained and entered the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in Paris in 1919. Lemasson specialized for about 25 years mainly in church decoration through frescoes, often working with his brother Paul Lemasson. Besides frescoes, he painted a variety of works including portraits, landscapes, and scenes from his travels in France, Italy, Spain, and Greece using oil, watercolor, ink, and other mediums. He exhibited his works in several galleries in Paris, Nantes, and Bordeaux over many decades.

Outre les fresques, il a peint diverses œuvres, notamment des portraits, des paysages et des scènes de ses voyages en France, en Italie, en Espagne et en Grèce, utilisant l'huile, l'aquarelle, l'encre et d'autres techniques. There seem to have been two different versions of this publication, as all of those available online have either eight or ten illustrated sheets. These celebrities are happy to confirm their love of drinking Bénédictine! Boards are a little darkened, with some marking to the bottom edge and a touch of loss to the open edge. The preface (two leaves folded) is darkened to the first page. The plates are in mostly in good, clean condition, although some have a touch of edgewear to them. Undated. Circa 1910. 245 x 170 mm (9¾ x 6¾ inches). A very nice copy. SEM - Georges Goursat (1863–1934), was a French caricaturist famous during the Belle Époque. As well as the caricatures which made him famous, he created work in a very different style as a correspondent during World War I. His later work was very influenced by the "Jazz Age" and high society in Paris during the 1920's. Première édition. Signed by the publisher to the verso of the title, with a stamped number 80 (limitation unknown). Green hardback with a facsimile of Chigot's signature. Decorated with gilt titles, with the artist's photo pasted on; title sheet in red and black and decorated with a vignette of the author. The covers are a little rubbed, but sound. The sheets themselves are in good condition, but slightly darkened. 33.5cm x 25.5cm.

China: N.P, C1950. First edition / original painting. A classic shanshui (山水) landscape with excellent spatial depth. The artists name and seal are to the top right. 冯有年 = Féng Yǒunián — a given name meaning "prosperous years" or "longevity." There is a further seal (chop), to the middle left of the painting. This is probably the artist's seal of authenticity. The artist uses all three traditional planes: Misty distant mountains fading on the right; a large dominant central mountain mass dense with pine forests; and a detailed foreground of rocks, a gnarled pine tree, and a stream. Crucially, there's a small pavilion tucked into the right mid-ground. The pavillion is a common Daoist motif signalling that the landscape is a place of retreat and contemplation, not just scenery. A beautiful example of mid twentieth century Shanshui art. Skillfully exectuted. No significant marking. Held under a gilt edged passe partout, in a wooden frame under glass. The visible part of the painting is 29cm x 36cm. The frame itself is 45cm x 51.5cm,

Élément crucial, un petit pavillon est niché au milieu du plan intermédiaire, à droite. Each plate protected with a facing tissue-guard. Hardcover, bound in the original publisher's lovely silk-covered boards, sewn with threads in traditional Chinese style, upper board richly illustrated in gilt, and with gilt lettering. First edition. Includes list of dynasties; notes on the history and technique of Chinese drawing and painting; supplement of plates illustrating Chinese bronzes, ceramic art, and jade (separate title page). The silk covered boards are in very good to fine condition, a little discoloured (darkened) to the edges. Tiny split to the head of the spine. Internally In fine internal condition. Exceptionally well preserved, crisp plates. 280 x 220 mm (11 x 8¾ inches).

Collotype is one of the most accurate and attractive methods of photomechanical tonal printing processes. Highly skilled and expensive process, it cannot produce more than a limited number of impressions. It has been used for single-sheet prints and luxury portfolios, and since the 1950s has been abandoned by all except a few small specialist firms
Strehlneek owned an art gallery in Shanghai. In 1930, he was advertising this as the oldest establish firm dealing with art objects for the collector.

The image shows a man in military uniform, wearing a bicorne hat with the word "conseil" on it. He is looking sceptically over his shoulder where an image shows "interieur" and a purse (?) over the words "Seance ou Zjaoul" (?) To the bottom is the line "Effet de la formation du Nouveau cabinet sur le Conseil communal ou notre ville." This is probably referring to the 1857 Belgian general election which was held on 10 December 1857 and was the first full general election since 1848. It was called by royal order dissolving the Chamber of Representatives. Before the election, Liberals held a majority in the Senate, and Catholics held a majority in the Chamber of Representatives. The election resulted in a victory for the Liberal Party, which won 70 out of 108 seats in the Chamber of Representatives, gaining a majority in both chambers of parliament. Charles Rogier became both the premier and the Interior minister (perhaps referenced with the word "Interieur" to the top).

Les élections se sont soldées par une victoire du parti libéral, qui a remporté 70 des 108 sièges de la Chambre des représentants, obtenant ainsi la majorité dans les deux chambres du parlement. Charles Rogier devient à la fois premier ministre et ministre de l'Intérieur (peut-être référencé avec le mot "Interieur" en tête).

Sous l'image, on peut lire « Le Musée Anatomique » accompagné de deux lignes de texte. L'image est de bonne qualité, propre, avec seulement quelques traces de rousseur / marques. Elle est désormais encadrée sous un passe-partout vert olive et une protection en plastique. L'encadrement a été réalisé par un professionnel et est donc scellé sur les bords. Nous n'avons donc pas pu examiner la page en dehors du passe-partout. L'esquisse mesure 27 cm x 19,5 cm. Le passe-partout mesure 34,5 cm x 27 cm. Deux gentlemen universitaires se tiennent devant une foule. Ils déclarent : « Le musée anatomique... Oh, allez ! Qu'est-ce qui lui prend ? Mon cher Chet, nous avons tort de venir ici pour en savoir plus sur le dîner ? »

Jules Renard (1833-1926), connu sous le pseudonyme de Draner, était un peintre, illustrateur et caricaturiste belge. Né à Liège, il s'installe à Paris en 1861. Il s'est fait connaître par ses caricatures militaires et son travail de costumier pour le théâtre et l'opéra de Paris. Il est mort à Paris en 1926 à l'âge de 92 ans.

Liége: NP, 1860. First edition - an original sketch / caricature believed to be signed and drawn by Renard / Draner. Entitled "Croquades Liégeoises No 52" to the top of the sketch, this is drawn and signed in pencil, with the title and text below in black ink. It is a good, clean image, with a touch of foxing / marking only. Now framed under an olive green passe partout and plastic protective cover. This has been professionally framed, and so is sealed to the edges. As a result we haven't been able to examine the page outside of the mount. Sketch is 27cm x 19.5cm. Mount is 34.5cm x 27cm.

The image shows Orpheus playing his lyre to a jury, who are not looking particularly impressed. "Which proves that Orpheus couldn't soften the hearts of others."
Jules Renard (1833-1926), known by the pseudonym Draner, was a Belgian painter, illustrator and caricaturist. Born in Liege, he moved to Paris in 1861. He became known for his military caricatures and his work as a costume designer for theatre and opera houses in Paris. He died in Paris in 1926 at the age of 92. L'image montre Orphée jouant de sa lyre devant un jury qui n'a pas l'air particulièrement impressionné. "Ce qui prouve qu'Orphée ne pouvait pas adoucir le cœur des autres."
