Published by Calmann Levy, with owner's name to the top of the covers and the half title pages. 68 pages. 18cm x 12cm. Both books are in excellent condition. The first is in fine condition, the second has a touch of edgewear to the paper cover with slight foxing, otherwise in fine condition. Théodore de Banville (1823-1891) is today remembered more as a poet, but he was also passionate about the theatre, and influential in reviving French interest in the commedia dell'arte tradition, and the figure of Pierrot. Gringoire was his best known dramatic work. Eudore Cléaz is a short story that belongs to a collection of Banville's he called Esquisses parisiennes (Parisian Sketches).

Quite a few pages are uncut. 23.5cm x 21cm. Unpaginated. Saint-John Perse was the pseudonym of Alexis Leger (1887–1975), a French poet, writer, and diplomat who stands as one of the most significant literary figures of the 20th century. Perse was dismissed from his post by the Vichy government in 1940, stripped of his French nationality, and forced into exile in the United States. After producing some early work, he then focussed on his diplomatic career. This was his first work on his return to poetry. Perse's work was admired by literary contemporaries such as Paul Claudel, André Gide, and André Breton, who viewed him as a "surrealist at a distance." Particularly interesting for the English reader, is the relationship Perse had with T.S. Eliot.

À l'intérieur, on observe quelques rousseurs sporadiques. 28 x 36 cm
